Practice questions are a significant part of preparing for your exam, especially when it comes to math. Sometimes you might think that you understand the concepts, but you have trouble actually applying them to the exam itself.

Working on some of the questions will help you avoid this by seeing how it feels to test under a time crunch, as well as how you actually perform on some of the questions that you thought you knew well.

Here are some sample questions of what you might encounter on the TEAS:

  • 0.44 is the closest decimal approximation for which of the following fractions? Your answers are a) 1/9 b) 2/9 c) 3/9 and d) 4/9
  • The ratio of motorcyclists involved in an accident to motorcyclists involved in more than one accident in the past year is 4:15. What fraction of drivers involved in at least one car accident this past year were involved in more than one accident? Your answers are a) 4/15 b) 4/10 c) 15/4 and d) 15/17
  • While both may seem like relatively simple questions that deal with simple concepts, when youre under pressure, you might struggle to piece out what the ratio is or how you figure out fractions.

Lets try a sample question and answer. You might see a question like this one:

  • Solve for x: 3x + 7 = x 7
  • To solve something like this, with variables on both sides of the equal sign, you first need to rearrange the problem to get the variables on the same side.

Why Use A Teas Study Guide

Using a study guide to prep for the TEAS may seem like overkill at first, especially if you need to stay within a tight budget. That said, getting a good score on this exam can set you up for success in your future nursing career, making a guide worth the investment.

Using a TEAS study guide can help you identify areas where you need to focus your efforts, allowing you to study smarter instead of harder. Rather than spending time in a subject area you already know well, you can maximize your time by deepening your knowledge in an area you find challenging.

Most likely, youve been asked to take the TEAS as part of your basic admissions requirements for nursing or allied health school. Step 1 of taking the TEAS is registering for your test date, time, and location.

One more thing before you begin the registration process, contact the school to which you are applying to find out whether you should register for the TEAS through the institution either online or on-campus, online via ATI, or at a PSI testing center.

Quick Fire Tips For Your Teas Test Day

The guides I’ve reviewed here are the best TEAS study guides you can find. Most of them are specifically designed for the sixth edition of the exam.

However, its up to you to decide which one suits you the best, based on:

    • Your weak areas
    • How much study time you can invest
    • How much extra practice you need

Each of these study manuals have their strengths and weaknesses. But all of them provide a thorough ATI TEAS practice that will help you feel prepared for the test day along with these useful tips:

  • Rule out answers. If you dont know the right answer to a TEAS question, first try to eliminate the answers you know arent correct.
  • Apply scientific reasoning. Again, if you dont know the right answer, ask yourself which one makes the most sense based on everything else youve learned.
  • Practice good time management. Dont get stuck on a question youre unsure about. Move on and return to it at the end of the test if theres some time left.
  • Read the question first. Dont jump to the passage before youve read the question. You wont know what to focus on and youll waste time by going back and forth between the question and the passage.
  • Pay attention to the wording. The question sometimes contains the answer — or, at least, gives some valuable hints.

    Teas Test Day Strategies

TEAS Test Version 6 Reading (Study Guide)

To make all of your great preparation work effective, we have a few strategies to keep in mind for test day:

    • Do a TEAS warm-up test at home before you leave for the testing center. This helps get your brain into test mode.
    • Leave the nerves at home. At this point, you have done all that you can to prepare for the test. Stay calm, and let your preparation shine through.
    • You might encounter a tough question. Do not spend too much time on one single question, time management is an important piece of a successful outcome. Circle back to the tough question after you have answered the others. It is important to try to answer all of the questions. Because they are all multiple-choice questions, you can apply process of elimination for the ones you’re unsure of. When working through these first eliminate the ones you know are not it, and then use your gut to answer with the remaining choices. Even if you are guessing, you still have a twenty five percent chance of selecting the right one, so do not leave any blank.

Make sure you bring the following items with you to the test:

  • Government-issued identification such as a driver’s license or state ID card, military ID, US passport, or US permanent resident card. Student ID cards and credit cards are not accepted.
  • Two sharpened No. 2 pencils with erasers attached. Do not bring pens, highlighters, mechanical pencils, or separate erasers.
