Find Printed Study Guides

Though online resources are helpful, using printed study guides and resources can give you additional benefits. Physical copies of study guides and books can allow users to write notes in the margins, flip to sections more quickly and highlight important information. It’s possible that writing down the information and physically interacting with the material might provide you with a more effective learning approach and help you retain the knowledge more easily. It’s also possible that some used study guides or resources might be more cost effective, as long as the information is up to date and accurate.

Tips For Passing Your Teas Test

Some students approach the exam without studying, but it is important to review all topics, including strength areas. Amiel adds that studying not only helps test-takers review their knowledge on these subjects for the test, but also helps boost confidence before entering the testing room. Students that do not study have a greater chance of not passing the test as a first time test-taker.

Do not wait until the last moment to prepare. Planning ahead means scheduling a testing time slot and beginning study sessions weeks before the testing date.

“Waiting too late to schedule your exam may compromise the amount of time you’ll have to study, and it may mean that you’ll have to settle for a test date/time that isn’t ideal, adding to the stress of the exam,” Amiel says.

Make sure you know exactly what to expect on the date of your test. Consider how ATI scores answers, what you should take to the testing room, and whether your testing facility provides breaks during the test.

< “With a clear picture of what test day looks like, you can prepare without any hiccups,” Amiel says, thus alleviating unnecessary stress which will be a test-taking barrier./p>

Practice and test and use a study guide. The ATI/TEAS site has a number of different study options that students can choose from which are a great place to start. “This is a great tool to use because it simulates the actual test which means you can get a feel for what the exam and questions will look like,” Amiel says.

Utilize Online Test Prep Resources

The Assessment Technologies Institute is the creator of the TEAS test. Their website has various study guides and learning options available for prospective nursing students to use. For example, they offer online tutorials, study manuals, practice tests, and learning strategies to help lead students toward success.

Since the ATI developed the TEAS test, their website is a great place to start. However, there are many online resources for students preparing to take the TEAS test. One should always check ratings and ask around before investing in an online TEAS study program.

How To Study For The Teas

While the TEAS can seem daunting, ATI offers a wealth of test-prep resources. First and foremost, you should determine which type of test your school requires and register for a specific date, time, and location. Make sure to set aside at least six weeks of study time for the TEAS.

ATI offers study packages, study manuals, practice assessments, and tutorials for purchase through its website. Prices range from $25 to $249. Study packages provided by ATI include online and printed materials based on actual test content.

You can also find TEAS prep resources online including free material through sites dedicated to nursing programs and licensing exams. Note that although free test preparation may appeal to test-takers on a budget, these resources may provide less current information than ATI-sponsored prep material.

Regardless of whether you choose free or paid prep resources to study for the TEAS, taking practice tests is key. You should take multiple practice tests to better understand the format, content areas, and timing of the TEAS.

Who Takes The Teas

The TEAS is part of the admissions process for the Associate of Science in Nursing program. If you are applying to the ASN program, the Admissions Team will determine whether or not you need to take the TEAS based on the criteria below, and will let you know if TEAS is a part of your requirements.

You will take the TEAS if your cumulative GPA is lower than a 3.0. If your GPA is between a 2.0 and a 2.99 and you are offered acceptance to Labouré, then you will take the TEAS during your first semester as a placement test to determine participation in the DSN program .

If your GPA is between a 2.0 and a 2.49, you will take the TEAS as an entry test before you receive an admissions decision, and will test again for placement during your first semester if offered acceptance to Labouré.

You will not need to test if you meet any of the conditions below:

  • Your cumulative GPA is 3.0 or above
  • You have already earned a bachelors degree
  • You hold a valid LPN license

If you are required to take the TEAS for entry or for placement, your admissions counselor will help you schedule the test on-site or online through Labouré at no cost to you. Labouré is not able to accept test scores from previous tests you may have taken. If you just took the TEAS elsewhere before being asked to take it at Labouré, you must wait at least 2 weeks before scheduling your Labouré test.

Register At Least Two Weeks Ahead Of Time

Another smart TEAS test tip is to register for the exam early. While you can do plenty of independent preparation beforehand, ATI may send you a study guide and other important materials once you do officially register for the test.

Providing yourself with that extra time can help you stay calm and collected as you parse through the study guide materials. Going into the test stressed out will only lead to more stress when it matters most to keep a calm head.

Simulate The Testing Experience

Pin on school motivation

At over three hours long, the TEAS exam is a prolonged testing experience, and all of it is taken in one sitting with only short breaks allowed. During your preparatory period leading up to the date of the exam, its always a great idea to simulate the testing experience, including timing yourself on each section and completing an entire practice exam in one sitting. This will give you an idea of how much time the questions generally take you to answer so that you can gauge how much time to allow for each question when taking the actual test.

Get A Study Buddy Or Form A Study Group

Studying with other test-takers is extremely beneficial. Each member of the group has strengths and weaknesses and can assist others in their weaker areas. One can also share learning techniques that may benefit others. Knowledge-sharing is so valuable in any setting, but especially in the academic realm. Putting a “shout out” or ad at the school or an online community to recruit students to a study group is an excellent idea.

Get Printed Study Guides

There’s something to be said for printed books and study guides. It’s cost-effective, and students can mark up the pages, flag important concepts, write notes in the margins, and easily flip to the sections they need. Some students learn best by writing down concepts to remember material. For those types of learners, printed books are beneficial. For those on an extra-tight budget, consider a used study guide or book .

What Does The Teas Exam Consist Of

One of the most important TEAS test tips we can give is to familiarize yourself with the exam format so you know what to expect on test day. Youll be glad to hear that the format of the TEAS exam is similar to other standardized tests youve likely taken in your life. According to the Assessment Technologies Institute , the TEAS test consists of 170 multiple-choice questions covering a variety of subjects to be answered in 209 minutes.

The bulk of what youll need to know for the TEAS test is tied to the foundational education subjects commonly found in high school curriculums. ATI shares that the test covers material that students are expected to have acquired from their secondary education in the following areas:

  • Reading:
  • Areas assessed include conventions of Standard English, knowledge of language and vocabulary acquisition.
  • Which Version Of The Teas Will You Take

First, these changes will likely not go into effect until June 2022. Your school will likely take the ATI TEAS 6 version for several months during the transition period so dont panic!

Second, the ATI TEAS is definitely testing out new questions right now. These ATI TEAS test questions are likely not scored but they still can appear on the current version of the TEAS.

In fact, Im hearing from students that weird things are happening on the TEAS exam. If you are taking the ATI TEAS in 2021, you are likely getting unscored questions that are test questions for the new version of the TEAS exam.

New ATI TEAS science section questions that Im noticing:

    • More acid and base questions on the pH scale
    • Using the logarithmic pH scale
    • Radiation vs. conduction
    • More detailed questions about cellular organelles

That said, the new version of the ATI TEAS isnt going to be too different from the 2021 ATI TEAS exam.

    Is The Teas Difficult

What to Expect on the TEAS V Exam

If youre the type who struggles to perform well on standardized tests, you may find the TEAS challenging. Others find the sheer breadth of the subjects to be overwhelming. Many test-takers have found the Reading and English section of the test to be moderately difficult. However, many TEAS takers vouch that the Science and Math section are more complex and challenging.

The timed nature of the exam can be difficult for some. You have a set time to complete each section of the exam, and you cannot go back to change your answers. If you’ve been in the workforce and out of school for years, you may not remember a lot of the material covered.

Overall, the TEAS test is difficult because nursing school is difficult. The test allows nursing schools to select students who have the best chance of successfully practicing. Nursing school is hard. It is important to take the TEAS exam seriously. First of all, scoring well on this exam is essential in establishing your value as a candidate and securing a seat in a Nursing program. Secondly, any credible nursing program will require that a minimum standard of competence exists before considering applicants for their program. State licensure bodies have certain criteria academic programs must maintain in order for that program to become approved. One of the criteria is that the academic program be accredited by either The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education or The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing . Implementing requirements such as the TEAS test provides a mechanism of accountability and sustainability for their program. Successful TEAS test takers are at the foundation and the future of the nursing profession.
