How To Make The Perfect Latte

Which Milk To Use

How to Make an Iced Latte | Perfect Coffee

In your latte, there will be 3 parts milk to 1 part espresso, with just a dab of foamed milk on top. Now, that you have explored the world of high-quality coffee beans, you need to make sure you pick the right milk to top it off.

The best milk thats renowned by baristas and coffee connoisseurs is Jersey milk. It is made from Jersey cows, and it is proven to have a higher percentage of fat and protein compared to other dairy products. This milk is not cheap, but it makes a noticeable difference to the taste of your latte.

The fat content in milk is what determines the consistency of the foam too the more fat, the more creamy your foam will be. And of course, hot creamy milk poured with the espresso will better compliment the coffee notes than a low-fat milk.

Use full-fat milk or lactose-free milk for the ultimate, creamy milk foam. As for other dairy alternatives such as almond, soy and rice milk, youll end up with a light foam with larger bubbles and a less-creamy taste.

Those dairy-free kinds of milk will also interact with your coffee beans in a different way. Soy milk has quite a light flavour so best to avoid the darker roasts from the medium-roast aisle, for example.

Here Are Some Flavoring Suggestions For Your Homemade Latte:

Flavored coffee syrup: My toasted coconut coffee syrup is always a winner. And so is my cinnamon brown sugar coffee syrup thats basically a copycat recipe of the Starbucks cinnamon dolce syrup.

Then theres the classic vanilla syrup to make vanilla lattes. And my blackberry vanilla syrup will just slightly tint your drink a light purple while giving it a boost of fruity deliciousness.

OH! And how could I forget my almond toasted coconut variety with real toasted coconut that youll steep in a 5-minute simple syrup.

Of course, the Christmas season brings a whole other slew of latte possibilities! I made a gingerbread syrup this past season for these gingerbread lattes and if youre a gingerbread lover, this drink is definitely for you.

Eggnog lattes are a big favorite at Christmas too! You can make them at home with just hot espresso and eggnog that you heat and froth.

Though I havent tried it, the rosemary syrup I added to my mistletoe kiss cocktail might be a nice herby addition to your coffee drink.

You can buy or make your own coffee syrup but I really do love to make my own. Theyre all SO GOOD!

Flavored Coffee Creamer: My pumpkin spice creamer is a copycat recipe of the coffee creamers you find in the grocery store. Combined with some steamed milk, this is a great way to make pumpkin spice lattes.

Maple syrup: This natural sweetener is a delicious way to sweeten your coffee, whether its hot or cold. Look at that! Now youve made a maple latte!

Which Is Stronger: Coffee Or Lattes

Ounce for ounce, espresso contains more caffeine than coffee. One ounce of espresso contains about 63 mg caffeine. One ounce of coffee contains about 14 mg caffeine.

However, since a medium coffee contains about 12 ounces of coffee and a medium latte contains 2 shots of espresso , a medium coffee is actually stronger than a latte . Who would have thought!!

How Does It Compare

Perfect Tea Latte (in 5 minutes!) A Couple Cooks

An easy name for a very confusing drink. Many similar coffee beverages exist today that resemble a latte but have slightly different ingredients and doses.

It is highly possible to order a latte in countries all over the world and be presented with as many different drinks as the bars youre ordering it in.

To make it clearer for you and avoid looks of confusion when receiving your cup, lets see what are the differences between a latte and 3 of its close cousins.

The café au lait is French in origin. It predates the modern use of the word latte and is drunk in every part of the world where the french had at least some influence. Thats not the only difference, though.

It differs from a latte in the amount of coffee used and its brewing method. A latte is an espresso-based drink, the coffee is brewed with an espresso machine, while a café au lait is a filter-based drink.

Sometimes a french press is used to make a café au lait. The ratio of coffee to milk is higher in a café au lait than in a latte: nearly 50/50%.

Of course, variations are aplenty so dont be surprised to be served a café au lait with the same ratio of coffee than in a latte. In some bars, the café au lait has little or even no milk foam.

Popular in Italy is instead a latte macchiato. Dont take this for a macchiato, in which over an espresso a splash of hot milk is added.

Macchiato means stained in Italian after all.

Health Benefits Of Matcha Latte

Drinking matcha lattes regularly has many benefits for your health and wellbeing. It is packed with antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and fibre which can help strengthen your immune system and reduce inflammation.

The amino acid L-theanine found in matcha can improve brain function and focus as well as fight anxiety and stress. Plus, it is a great source of natural energy without the post-crash effects associated with other caffeinated beverages.

Milk To Use For Cafe Latte

The best milk to use for a cafe latte is whole milk. Why? Whole milk froths the best because it has the highest milk fat. You can also use 2% milk and it works fairly well, but you lose a bit of the richness. The most important part about the milk: make sure its as fresh as possible! Milk thats getting closer to its expiration date does not foam as well.

Can you make a vegan latte? Yes! The best non-dairy milk for a latte is oat milk: it froths up the best and has great flavor. Go to How to Froth Milk for some notes on the particulars of working with non-dairy milk.

Prep The Matcha Powder

Start by preparing the matcha. With a bamboo scoop, push the matcha powder through the mesh of a fine mesh tea strainer. Sifting the green tea matcha powder will dissolve faster in water. Sift your matcha powder beforehand to ensure it is lump-free.

Put some matcha powder in a small bowl, and stir in some hot water to make a thin paste. Whisk using a matcha whisker until it dissolves into a smooth paste. Set the bowl aside.

Matcha is best prepared by whisking with a bamboo chasen. The powder dissolves in water when whisked, resulting in a smooth and flavorful matcha drink.

In the absence of a chasen whisk, you can still make a delicious matcha beverage using some quick methods.

1 Use a mason jar, a shaker, or a bottle to shake.

Add all the mixture to the bottle or jar, and securely close the lid. For a few minutes, shake until a thick layer of foam forms. Matcha cold-brewed works best with this option, so try it out with some ice.

You can also prepare hot matcha by using this technique. The best way to remove clumps from matcha is to sift the powder before shaking it into the jar or bottle.

2 Using a blender

You cant deny the fact that matcha smoothies taste delicious, and they can be blended by simply adding the green tea powder to the rest of the ingredients.

All you have to do is blend the matcha with water! Making a cup of matcha is a quick and easy process that entails no effort.

3 Whip the matcha powder in a milk frother.

Why Is This The Best Matcha Chai Latte

How to Make a Perfect Cafe Latte at Home

This matcha chai latte is a creamy, rich, and flavorful beverage perfect for chilly mornings or evenings. The matcha powder gives the latte a slightly sweet and grassy flavor, while the chai spices add depth and warmth.

This matcha chai latte is the perfect balance of cozy and refreshing, and I guarantee that it will become your new favorite wintertime drink! I particularly love this recipe because it uses almond milk instead of dairy, making it lighter and easier to digest. In addition, the recipe calls for just a handful of ingredients, all of which are easily accessible.

  • A matcha chai latte is the best latte because it combines two great flavors, matcha, and chai.
  • This latte is vegan, made with tea, matcha powder, sugar, and almond milk.
  • Using a teabag to make chai tea is simple to make. This latte is an excellent choice for those who want a delicious and healthy vegan latte.

Latte Macchiato Glasses: What To Look For

The Ikea glass is my standard measure for a latte macchiato fill. The furniture giant really does make stuff thats practical. However, we still have a right to ask why we shouldnt use a glass with a handle. Right?

I say: this coffee beverage is mostly about looks.

Double-walled glasses solve the problem of burning your fingers as youre going for the first sip. However, with super automatic espresso machines in particular, you have to pay attention to the maximum cup height of each model.

Choosing The Right Type Of Milk:

Whole, 2%, 1%, skinny, almondthere are lots of different options when it comes to milk. Going purely on taste and texture alone, the best option is whole milk. However, if youd rather make a skinny latte, skim is fine too. Youll find its texture when steamed is a little different, though.

Using non-dairy alternatives is a bit trickier as they dont always stand up well to steaming . You might also find your non-dairy milk curdles or separates when added to the hot coffee . Other issues to consider include the taste of the milk, which can overwhelm the coffee.

If you want/need to go dairy-free, the best advice is to try a few different alternatives to see which you like best. The obvious choice is soy, but you could also try oat milk which has the high protein content needed for streaming and has a subtler taste.

Extra tip: In some high-end coffee shops, the almond milk latte is becoming fashionable when paired with a coffee that has flavors of nuts/chocolate. Almond milk is very low in protein so doesnt stand up as well to steaming, but you might like to give it a try.

What Can You Add

One of the best features of a latte is that it is flexible. Given that the coffee component of it is not large, substituting it with an alternative is possible and wont sound blasphemous to many baristas.

A latte tea is a reality and delicious, for instance. Simply remove the espresso and use an equal amount of tea of your choice and proceed as above.

It cant get any easier!

What about the hot summer months? You can make an iced latte!

The recipe is identical to the hot latte but with the difference. You should froth the milk much earlier and let it cool down to room temperature.

Then add enough ice cubes in a cup to make both the espresso and milk quickly cold and pour the coffee and milk in the same way as in a normal latte. Your iced latte will be ready in no time!

Serve and enjoy!

Variations to the classic latte abound. Sugar is commonly added to sweeten it, as topping with cocoa powder, coconut shavings, or any syrup of your liking.

The options to make a latte truly yours are nearly infinite. It wouldnt have had such a long history if it wasnt a super-flexible drink after all.

How Many Calories Are In A Matcha Chai Latte

Perfect Vegan Chai Latte A Couple Cooks

While matcha contains more caffeine than regular green tea, it also contains L-theanine, an amino acid that promotes relaxation.

A large/grande matcha chai lattefrom Starbucks contains approximately 240 calories. Most of these come from the milk and sugar added to the latte. However, matcha itself is relatively low in calories, with around 35 calories per teaspoon.

How To Make Latte Macchiato: Top Tips For Each Method

If we look at the rule for latte proportions:

  • First part warm milk
  • Second part milk foam
  • Final part espresso poured on top

and simply froth all the milk, we can make a latte macchiato with almost anything on the market. Except, of course, with a drip coffee maker. You could potentially make an approximation of a latte macchiato with a Ninja Specialty Coffee Maker, but that would mean using concentrated coffee and not true espresso.

Improves Focus And Concentration

The combination of caffeine and L-theanine, an amino acid found in green tea, can help improve focus and concentration. The effects of these tea leaves will leave you feeling energized without the jittery side effects associated with other caffeinated beverages. This makes it a great choice for those who need to stay alert but dont want the post-caffeine crash later on.

Although matcha lattes have numerous health benefits, they can also have some side effects if consumed in excess. Excessive consumption of matcha may lead to insomnia due to the caffeine content and affect your blood sugar levels.

Furthermore, some people may be allergic to certain ingredients in the drink such as almond milk or coconut milk which could cause an adverse reaction.

What Makes Matcha Unique From Green Tea

The Camellia sinensis plant is the source of both matcha and traditional green tea. However, the matcha is made using leaves plucked from shade-grown plants. These tea plants are kept under large curtains or nets that block out at least 90% of direct sunlight for the last month of their growth cycle. This lack of sunlight alters the plants chemistry, giving the plant an abundance of chlorophyll.

Matcha is made by stone-grinding tea leaves until they become ultra-fine particles. Because of its labor-intensive production process, matcha prices tend to be higher than regular green tea. It is also brighter in color and has a more intense flavor. You can use matcha powder to make tea or add it to smoothies, baked goods, and other dishes for a nutrient boost.

In addition to its unique taste, matcha is also more concentrated than other types of green tea. Matcha also contains higher levels of antioxidants than other types of green tea, making it a popular choice for those looking for an energy boost.

Ways To Brew Espresso

I brew my espresso with my Nespresso machine. My goodness do I loooooove this machine!!

Its a fast way to make an espresso and theres no guessing game about how much water is needed because the pods have a barcode on them. The machine reads the barcode and adds the exact amount of water that each pod requires for the espresso or coffee you choose.

SO SIMPLE.

PRO TIP: When I brew espresso to drink straight away, I like to use these little double-walled espresso glasses. They keep the espresso hot longer when I want to drink it hot. Theyre just like the Tervis tumblers but made of glass instead of plastic.

So if I brew an espresso and then say, the dog rings his bell to go outside or Riley is running amuck through the house and I need to wrangle her, my espresso stays hot for juuust a little bit longer. And boy, Im always so thankful for this! Life happens, people!!

There are other ways to make espresso as well. An old-fashioned but still really cool stove top espresso maker works great too! I have used this stove top maker in the past but switched over to the Nespresso as my go-to when we purchased it 3+ years ago.

My mom uses still makes espresso on the stove top and its really easy to use! You just need to grind your espresso beans or buy ground espresso, add the ground espresso to the pot, add water, and brew. Otherwise, you can buy ground espresso in the grocery store or online at places like Amazon. Illy is my favorite brand of ground espresso!
