Iced Matcha Latte Recipe Starbucks

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

The best Iced Matcha Latte recipe | Green Tea latte | Better than Starbucks
  • Easy to make. You only need 4 simple ingredients to make a matcha latte: matcha powder, water, milk and sweetener.
  • You can adjust the level of sweetness. What I love about making a matcha latte at home is that I can control the level of sweetness. This recipe calls for 1 tablespoon of simple syrup to closely replicate the matcha lattes at Starbucks , but you can adjust the sweetener to taste.
  • Less caffeine than coffee. One teaspoon of matcha powder has about half the caffeine of a cup of coffee. Perfect way to start your morning or as an afternoon pick-me-up without the hard crash.

What Type Of Matcha Should I Use

I always prefer loose matcha powder but you can also use matcha tea bags for ease if you prefer.

When purchasing matcha powder, notice there is culinary grade and ceremonial grade. Their prices differ greatly.

Culinary is less expensive and will work fine for this recipe.

Ceremonial grade is more expensive and is also very bright green in color compared to culinary grade. The flavor and taste difference between the two are very subtle.

I have ALWAYS loved iced matcha lattes. When I order one from Starbucks, I always ask for an extra scoop of matcha.

Theyre just so flavorful, bright, and refreshing. An immediate pick-me-up.

I recently became obsessed with oat milk after trying Starbucks Iced Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espresso. Its creamy and delicious.

I started to make my own version of Starbucks Iced Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espresso at home because it costs $7. If you would like me to post that recipe, please let me know in the comments below.

So I decided to start making iced matcha lattes at home too. Theyre incredibly easy-to-make, ready in minutes, and a fraction of the price of a matcha latte at a local coffee shop.

This iced matcha latte recipe can be made with your milk of choice – plant-based or dairy. But, oat milk is my current favorite milk. It makes a creamy iced matcha latte.

Is Matcha Better For Anxiety Than Coffee

Like coffee, matcha has a decent amount of caffeine in it, but it won’t give you the jitters. Matcha can actually help reduce anxiety because of the large amount of L-theanine that it contains.

Whats In An Iced Matcha Latte

Theres just a few simple ingredients in an iced matcha latte.

  • Matcha This green tea powder is packed with health benefits and plenty of caffeine! There are different types of matcha, too, which points to where the matcha was made. Starbucks uses a custom sweetened matcha, which is why it dissolves so smoothly. For mine, I used a ceremonial grade matcha from a brand that I buy my blue spirulina from. They have really high quality products that are usually sold in glass jars, which helps preserve the quality and freshness of the powder.
  • Milk Any cold milk of choice will do for this one. I used oat milk, because I stay pretty dairy free. You can use whatever you have, just know that if your milk has any flavor, it will alter the taste of the matcha latte a little bit. I think oat milk is a good compliment.
  • Sweetener I used homemade vanilla syrup, which takes just 10 minutes and 3 ingredients to make. I share the entire recipe in this post. You can use a plain simple syrup , honey, agave, or any sweetener you like. Vanilla added a little warmth and flavor to the matcha, which I personally liked. Without any sweetener at all, youre going to get a stronger, grassier flavor in your matcha latte.
  • Ice Gotta have the ice!

As far as tools for this one, youll really need some kind of mixer to really stir in the matcha. Its going to take a few minutes to get it to dissolve fully.

Ingredients You Will Need

  • Hot water. This will help to dissolve the matcha powder and sweetener.
  • Honey or maple syrup. The amount of sweetener you use can be adjusted according to your preference.
  • Matcha powder. Use good quality matcha for this recipe for the best flavor results.
  • Vanilla extract. An easy way to add delicious vanilla flavor to your iced matcha latte.
  • Milk. Any dairy or non-dairy milk will work for this recipe.
  • Ice cubes. Keeps the drink chilled and refreshing!

How Much Caffeine Is In Matcha

Whereas green tea has about 25mg of caffeine per cup, matcha has double the amount, with at least 70mg of caffeine per cup! By comparison, one espresso shot has 75mg of caffeine, so considering how much matcha is in a grande or even venti, youre definitely not skimping on caffeine by switching to this green drink. To learn more about caffeine in coffee and tea drinks, head to this post.

What Is In A Starbucks Matcha Latte

Starbucks Sugar

Starbucks matcha lattes are made with a matcha tea blend, a combination of sugar, ground green tea, and milk. Starbucks matcha is similar to instant coffee in that it dissolves in hot water, unlike regular matcha tea, which does not dissolve. This is a well-crafted blend that dissolves quickly. Starbucks has also presweetened the matcha latte, so you might not enjoy it if you dont have a sweet tooth.

The sugar also increases the calorie count, which would be a no-no for someone on a strict diet looking to lose weight. However, one of the benefits of matcha tea is that it can help with weight loss, and if you balance your daily calorie count, you will be able to enjoy your Starbucks matcha latte without feeling guilty. Vegans can always customize their drink to their liking by requesting a non-dairy milk option such as almond milk, coconut milk, soy milk, or rice milk.

Ice is an ingredient in iced matcha lattes. Starbucks used to add its classic syrup to its sweet matcha to make it sweeter, but they stopped. Because matcha has a raw, bitter vegetable flavor, you can sweeten it to your liking. Starbucks matcha also has unique blends like lemonade and pineapple, and customers can always request a unique blend if they want a twist on the standard Starbucks matcha latte.

Version : Making Iced Matcha In A Blender

Step 1: Preparation

Place all ingredients into a blender: plant milk, matcha powder, vanilla syrup. For best results, add the liquids to the blender first, and the matcha powder last. This way, the powder will not get stuck in any corners at the bottom of your blender.

The same applies if you’re making this drink in an electric milk frother. Before using one, make sure it can create cold froth as not all frothers have that option. I personally use the milk frother from Dualit, which is brilliant and can make both hot and cold froth.

Step 2: Blending

Blend the iced matcha latte on a high-speed setting for 1 minute or until smooth and frothy.

Step 3: Serving

Add your ice cubes to a tall glass and pour in your iced matcha. Serve your iced matcha latte cold and enjoy the refreshment.

I love a good latte whether its a classic almond milk latte, soy milk latte, or even a lavender tea latte. Matcha green tea lattes have become all the rage lately!

What is matcha? Matcha is a powder made from green tea. Unlike green tea, which comes in a tea bag, matcha is a powder you stir in hot water or milk.

Its a healthy alternative to coffee or other high caffeine drinks. It is earthy in flavor. Sweetened and served over ice, its a refreshing summer drink!

The Starbucks matcha latte has been on the menu for quite some time. Maybe youve enjoyed it yourself, or seen people walk out of Starbucks with an interesting bright green drink, and wondered what it was they were drinking.

Since a grande Matcha Latte at Starbucks can run you $4 or more, 200 calories, 5 grams of fat, and 28 grams of sugar, I thought I should try making my own healthier version at home.

This frothy drink recipe is so easy, and only requires a few simple pantry ingredients! Its also all-natural, lower in sugar, and lower in calories.

Simple Swaps For This Recipe

There are a couple of things you can easily swap in this recipe, in case you don’t have all ingredients to hand.

  • Plant Milk: I personally love making this drink with oat or coconut milk, but you can simply swap this for your favorite milk. Delicious options would be almond milk, which will give the latte a nuttier flavor, and also soya, which is a more flavor-neutral option.
  • Vanilla Syrup: you can swap the sugar-free syrup for another vanilla syrup you have to hand. Instead of vanilla syrup, you can also mix maple syrup and vanilla extract and mix it into the drink. Or simply make your own from scratch!

Making a matcha latte at home is incredibly simple with just 4 ingredients! Here are some tips.

I love this drink sooooooo matcha!

Okay, thats it for the matcha puns. I promise.

Im a simple gal when it comes to my caffeine drinks and generally not a lover of crazy coffee drinks or over the top Starbucks creations.

However, I fell in love with this drink many years ago when I worked for a production company here in Los Angeles. Ive never been able to shake my love for it.

These days I make it at home several times per week.

Its super easy to make and all you need is milk , matcha powder, and vanilla syrup.

I make mine a little fancy by using this vanilla bean simple syrup. Starbucks uses this vanilla syrup.

I personally prefer the caffeine buzz I get from matcha versus coffee. No jitters and Im more focused. Some people even use it as a dietary aide because it suppresses your appetite.

To mix the green tea latte, I like to use my handheld milk frother. It is hands done one of my favorite kitchen tools that cost less than $10. I also used it to make my Lucky Charms Cereal Milk Latte.

If you dont have one, mixing with a regular ol spoon works great.
