How Does Green Tea Help Lower Bad Cholesterol
Studies had been done in the past to determine the relationship between green tea and cholesterol. It was found that people who drink more of green tea have lower levels of bad cholesterol as compared to those who dont drink green tea. A very recent research published in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association found that green tea, whether in beverage or capsule form, can bring modest effects in the reduction of bad cholesterol in our body. At the same time, they found no link between green tea and good cholesterol. Meaning, it doesnt reduce the amount of good cholesterol which the body needs. Catechins, a kind of antioxidant present in green tea are the reason behind this amazing benefit. It works by reducing the absorption of bad cholesterol in the digestive tract and boosting its excretion rate.

Drinking Green Tea Or Taking It In Capsule Form May Lower Ldl Cholesterol As Well As Total Cholesterol
Catechins are naturally-occurring antioxidants in green tea.
A study published in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association reveals that drinking green tea or taking green tea in capsule form may lower LDL cholesterol as well as total cholesterol.
Dr. Olivia J. Phung, of the College of Pharmacy at Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California, published that green tea catechins, at doses ranging from 145 to 3,000 mg per day taken for 3 to 24 weeks, led to statistically significant reductions in total and LDL cholesterol compared to controls who did not consume any. Catechins are naturally-occurring antioxidants in green tea.
Besides green teas ability to lower LDL cholesterol levels, consuming green tea catechins has many other positive health benefits:
- Helps lower high blood pressure and prevents heart attacks

Reviews From Real Customers
Ive Heard this tea described as smooth, complex, delicate, and I would mostly agree with that, but you could also say that this tea has no character and doesnt stand for anything. Complex and delicate are words that in my opinion are better suited for a Darjeeling first flush.

Green Tea To Lower Cholesterol Not So Fast
Does Green Tea Lower Cholesterol?
All right, this green tea article has been hanging over my head for at least a month now. I just couldn’t get motivated to wade through all the research to determine if yes, this is an effective way to lower cholesterol and , or no, it’s just a lot of hype.
Well, I sat down and sorted it all out today and here’s what I found.
Health Clai
The proposed health claim for green tea is that drinking at least 5 fluid ounces as a source of catechins may reduce risk factors associated with .
What are catchins?
Green tea contains catechins, which are a type of flavenoid with antioxidant properties. Antioxidants slow the oxidation process. The oxidation of LDL molecules is what results in plaque formation. Therefore, increasing antioxidant intake should slow oxidation of , resulting in less arterial plaque formation.
Also, when molecules are oxidized, free radicals are released that damage cells. These free radicals can increase inflammatory issues associated with cardiovascular disease.
How flavenoids work
The body recognizes flavenoids as foreign particles and works to eliminate them from the body. Flavenoids themselves do not act as an antioxidant and they are poorly absorbed by the body. However, the proposed benefit of extra flavenoids is that as the body eliminates the unwanted flavenoids, damaging free radicals are also eliminated.

What Are Statin Drugs For Cholesterol
If you are currently someone who has high cholesterol or is at an increased risk of heart disease, you might consider using a statin as part of your treatment protocol or may already be on a statin. Statins are a group of drugs that reduce LDL cholesterol in the blood. They work by blocking the action of a liver enzyme involved in the production of cholesterol.
While statins are effective and relatively safe, they aren’t without side effects: muscle pain, fatigue, and gastrointestinal symptoms, for example.
If you can lower cholesterol through dietary changes and natural remedies, you might ask your doctor about drinking matcha daily instead of taking a statin.

The finding may help explain why green tea has been linked to a lower risk of heart disease, the leading killer worldwide, Xin-Xin Zheng and colleagues from Peking Union Medical College in Beijing report.
Because few people in the U.S. drink green tea, encouraging Americans to down more of the brew could have significant health benefits, the researchers write in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
Still, one U.S. expert cautioned the drink shouldnt be used as medicine for high cholesterol, as the effect found in the Chinese study was small.
The new report pools the results of 14 previous trials. In each of those studies, researchers randomly divided participants into two groups: one that drank green tea or took an extract for periods ranging from three weeks to three months, and one that got an inactive preparation.
On average, those who got green tea ended up with total cholesterol levels that were 7.2 milligrams per deciliter lower than in the comparison group. Their LDL, or bad, cholesterol dropped 2.2 mg/dL — a decrease of slightly less than two percent.
There was no difference in HDL, or good, cholesterol between the two groups.

Drink Pomegranate Juice Everyday
Antioxidant properties in Pomegranate juice is much higher than other fruit juices, including blueberry, cranberry, and orange. It contains nearly three times as many antioxidants as green tea or red wine, making it a perfect natural drink to lower cholesterol levels.
This Antioxidant-rich juice not only helps with lowering LDL cholesterol, but it also reduces blood vessel damage and prevents the hardening of the arteries. A study suggests that consuming concentrated pomegranate juice significantlyreduced the total cholesterol level in type II diabetic patients. In another study, drinking pomegranate juice for eight weeks showed positive impacts on blood pressure, serum triglycerides, and HDL cholesterol.
To get the most health benefits out of pomegranate juice, make sure to drink pure pomegranate juice without added sugar. The added sugar adds more calories resulting in reduced effectiveness.

Can Green Tea Help Lower Cholesterol
Nutri Advancedon 1st December 2016
Green tea is probably best known for its supercharged antioxidant content and possible fat burning benefits. Now a new study has found that green tea extract may help to reduce cholesterol too.
Researchers from the University of Minnesota, University of Pittsburgh and the University of Southern California carried out the randomized controlled trial on 1,075 post-menopausal women randomly assigned to receive placebo or green tea extract supplement for 12 months.
They found the green tea extract was associated with a 2.1% reduction in total cholesterol and a 4.1% reduction in LDL cholesterol significantly higher than the placebo group.
The researchers commented on the results,
Among the bioactive green tea catechins, epigallocatechin gallate is of great interest because it is the most abundant and purported to be the main bioactive catechin responsible for the hypolipidemic effects of green tea. The exact mechanisms by which EGCG exert their lipid-lowering effects remain largely unknown. The hypothesized mechanisms are through the suppression of cholesterol biosynthesis, the interference of lipid absorption and the increase in fecal excretion of cholesterol.
Perhaps a daily cup of green tea is just what the doctor ordered.

How To Consume Green Tea
While a variety of green tea supplements are available, Yellin recommends sticking with drinking the occasional cup of green tea as an alternative to water to derive the heart-healthy benefits of the beverage.
“In some of these studies, participants drink upwards of five cups per day,” she says. “This is not a realistic daily intake. Instead of telling individuals to drink five cups a day, one can be included with other heart-healthy dietary choices.”

Matcha Tea Health Benefits
You hear a lot about this trendy drink these days, but is matcha tea good for you? And, if so, what are the specific matcha tea health benefits?
Before we get into that, lets take a look back. Although matcha tea is indeed trendy, it can be traced a full thousand years back to the Tang Dynasty in China. Matcha eventually made its way to Japan, where it became part of the traditional tea ceremony built on the principles of harmony, respect, purity and tranquility.
What Gives Matcha Green Tea Its Strong Cholesterol
Researchers have found that catechins, a type of antioxidant found in large amounts in matcha and other green tea varieties, are responsible for matcha’s cholesterol-reducing effects. Studies have shown that the catechins found in matcha impact cholesterol in the following ways:
- Lowers total cholesterol levels
- Increases LDL receptor activities in your Liver
- It prevents direct cholesterol absorption in the intestines

Who Should Not Take Statins
Before prescribing a statin to anyone with liver disease, a doctor should thoroughly discuss the risks and possible benefits. If the liver disease is stable and chronic, taking a low-dose statin may carry greater benefits than risks. If the liver disease is progressive, however, guidelines warn against using statins.
If liver disease develops while taking a statin, the persons doctor may recommend reducing the dosage of the statin, switching statins, or stopping their use.
People who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or intending to become pregnant should not take statins.
It is typically not safe to combine statins with:
- erythromycin, an antibiotic
- a person has peripheral arterial disease
- after a heart attack or stroke
- if a blood test gives an LDL cholesterol reading of 190 milligrams per deciliter or higher
- if the reading is 70 mg/dl or higher in people aged 4075 with diabetes
- if the reading is 70 mg/dl or higher in people aged 4075 with a high risk of developing heart disease or a stroke
Atherosclerosis can develop and form plaques even when blood cholesterol levels are low. Statins may benefit people who already have atherosclerosis or have a high risk of developing it, even if they do not have high cholesterol levels.
