Canadian Dried Ginseng Root 120g

  • Adults: Take 1-2 piece per use
  • Children : Take 1/2-1 piece per use

Our entire ginseng is grown for an average of 6 years at which the medicinal benefit and saponin content of ginseng reaches their peak. Red ginseng is prepared by a repeated process of steaming and drying. The steaming process increases the content of saponin and activates ginsenoside which is inactive in a natural state. Rg3, an activated ginsenoside, is a main component that plays a medicinal property of red ginseng, and the amount in Canadian Ginseng is higher than Korean ginseng. Recent research proves anti-cancer activities of Ginsenoside Rg3 as it prompts cancer cells to change to normal cells, increases the effects of chemotherapy, and decreases the number of tumor and cancer cells.
Canadian ginseng has been known to calm nervousness, build the immune systems stronger, reduce susceptibility to illness and promote health and longevity. In addition to it, ginseng is best known as an adaptogen. To understand better, think of adaptogen as a thermostat. When the thermostat senses that the room temperature is too high, the thermostat brings it down. Ginseng can help adapt to stress, anxiety, and/or physical fatigue.

Phytophthora Root Rot Of Lavender Identified In Ontario

As acreage of lavender increases in Ontario, it is inevitable that new pests will begin to show up in the field. Up until now, the pests of lavender have not caused major economic damage. Four-lined plant bugs can cause unsightly or unmarketable lavender products, but do not significantly affect the health of the plants. Septoria leaf blight can weaken plants, and may cause a reduction in growth, but does not kill lavender plants. In other lavender growing regions, several aggressive root diseases are known to cause major crop damage and/or destruction. These include Fusarium, Phytophthora root rot, and shab. One of those diseases, Phytophthora root rot has now been found in Ontario.

Following weeks of heavy rain, one of the sites of the provincial lavender cultivar trials showed sudden wilt of foliage and death of the 3 to 4 year old lavender plants in July. An area of around 100 plants was severely affected . The site is characterized by sandy loam soil and flat ground. The soil is covered with black woven plastic mulch and a thin layer of wood chips. Due to the excess rain and the lack of a slope, the soil may have stayed saturated for long periods of time.

Figure 1. A portion of the area affected by Phytophthora root rot in one provincial cultivar trial. Some plants were killed entirely while others were only partially affected.

  • If possible, avoid growing lavender on sites previously cropped to perennial horticultural crops or crops in the potato family.

    How American Ginseng Is Grown

The potency of American Ginseng is determined by the level of ginsenosides, which can be impacted by soil conditions, climate, and the growing process used. Typically American Ginseng takes over three years to grow on virgin land that has not grown ginseng before.

The 3-Year Life Cycle of Wisconsin-Grown Ginseng

Growing American Ginseng in Wisconsin takes quite a bit of effort. It requires weeding by hand and placement of shadings at appropriate times of the year, which is why it is considered one of the most precious herbs.

    Step One

The first step is ensuring the soil is prepared for adding seeds. This may include removing rocks and tilling the soil to an appropriate depth. Next, the seeds are added to the soil. Typically, Ginseng is planted in the fall.

    Step Two

As the months pass, the Ginseng seedling will begin to grow. Regular weeding and proper drainage are essential to ensuring the Ginseng continues to grow and flourish.

    Step Three

Most American Ginseng grown in Wisconsin is harvested the third year after planting. First, the ripe seed heads will begin to appear, which means seed gathering is approaching. When it is time to harvest, the roots are dug up, washed, and dried.
