The Benefits Of Green Tea Extend To Your Belly
Drinking too much caffeine can give you the jitters and affect your sleep, but the stimulant can also help keep you regular. If youre sensitive to the volume of caffeine in coffee, try green tea instead. It, too, has caffeine but less than coffee. According to the Mayo Clinic, 8 oz of caffeinated brewed coffee contains between 95 and 165 mg of caffeine, whereas 8 oz of brewed green tea contains between 25 and 29 mg of caffeine.

Can Green Tea Prevent Heart Disease
For example, in a study of more than 40,500 adults, researchers in Japan found that those who consumed five or more cups of green tea per day were 26 percent less likely to die of cardiovascular disease over an 11-year period than those who drank just one cup per day.
Similarly, a study of 76,979 people published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health in 2011 found that women who drank one to six cups of green tea per day had a reduced risk of dying of cardiovascular disease compared with those who drank none.
How might green tea protect the heart? Experts say it may reduce high cholesterol levels and high blood pressure, which are important factors in cardiovascular disease.
But while this is a potential benefit, its not conclusive, and high doses of green tea can reduce the effectiveness of the drug nadolol, used to treat high blood pressure and heart problems, cautions NIH.

Is Green Tea Good For Liver And Kidneys
Green tea is good for you, but only if drunk in moderation. While the polyphenols in green tea are credited with preventing heart disease and cancer, it seems they can cause liver and kidney damage if consumed in very large quantities, a review of studies into the toxicity of polyphenols has shown.
Although Untested In Human Trials Results Suggest A Potential Health Strategy
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. The combination of green tea extract and exercise reduced the severity of obesity-related fatty liver disease by 75% in mice fed a high-fat diet, according to Penn State researchers, whose recent study may point to a potential health strategy for people.
The outcome is important, explained Joshua Lambert, associate professor of food science, because nonalcoholic fatty liver disease is a significant global health problem that is expected to worsen. Because of the high prevalence of risk factors such as obesity and type 2 diabetes, fatty liver disease is forecast to afflict more than 100 million people by 2030. And there are currently no validated therapies for the disease.
In the study, mice fed a high-fat diet for 16 weeks that consumed green tea extract and exercised regularly by running on a wheel were found to have just a quarter of the lipid deposits in their livers compared to those seen in the livers of a control group of mice. Mice that were treated with green tea extract alone or exercise alone had roughly half as much fat in their livers as the control group.
In addition to analyzing the liver tissues of mice in the study, which was published recently in Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry, researchers also measured the protein and fat content in their feces. They found that the mice that consumed green tea extract and exercised had higher fecal lipid and protein levels.

Detoxing Your Liver With Green Tea
Research shows that green tea helps keep your liver healthy, giving it a chance to fight off toxins in its daily battle with pollution and processed foods.
A study published in Antioxidants & Redox Signaling suggests that three cups of oolong per day can help detoxify our livers.
The antioxidants in oolong also protect against lipid peroxidation, which damages cells throughout our bodies including those in our livers.
Drink up! Its also just one of many benefits offered by regularly sipping on green tea instead of coffee or sugary drinks.
Though we love their antioxidant power, vitamin C-rich fruits like oranges and lemons tend to be high in sugar .
Green tea leaves have five times more flavonoids than citrus does without all that extra sugar! Drinking even decaf is a win as long as its kept under four cups/day.
Effects Of Different Green Teas On Body Weight
The effects of 10 kinds of green teas on body weight gain and energy intake are shown in Figure 1. As shown in Figure 1A, mice fed with HFD had a significantly larger weight gain than those of the control group . The average body weight gain of mice in the model group was 13.7 g, which was 2.14-fold that in the control group . In addition, the body weight gain in all the green tea groups was markedly smaller than that in the model group , but the effect greatly varied in different green teas. The Selenium-Enriched Chaoqing Green Tea and Jieyang Chaoqing Tea showed the strongest inhibition on obesity with 5.3 and 5.5 g body weight gain, respectively. Moreover, the energy intake in the model group was significantly bigger than that in the control group . The energy intake in mice treated with 8 green teas was reduced compared with the model group . The results of energy intake were generally coincident with those of body weight gain, which manifested that green tea played a role in the inhibition of obesity partly because of its effect on the reduction of energy intake.

Fatty Liver And Green Tea To Improve The Condition
After being diagnosed with a fatty liver condition , I always looked for natural ways to cleanse my liver, based on the idea that every little bit of help helps.
The truth is that I am a bit skeptical when it comes to natural remedies but in some cases, I am willing to give some things a try if I consider that the worst thing they can do is them having no effect.
And one of these things is Green Tea. It is considered to help you reverse fatty liver. Now this is something that I want to try and today well talk about green tea and its benefits for the liver.
Weve already talked about the hyped milk thistle which I took for a long time during my eventually successful battle to reverse fatty liver, but theres a new natural way maybe even more natural if something like that exists to help cleanse the liver and help it with its battle against the extra fat: Green tea!
Drinking green tea when you have a fatty liver is probably not the first dietary change that a doctor would recommend. Its surely not the most important one either.
I didnt knew anything about it until doing extensive research on all methods that help reversing your fatty liver and I saw that every now and then, the beneficial effects of Green Tea were mentioned.
You can imagine how pleasantly surprised I was to find out that this otherwise delicious drink might actually help those with a fatty liver!

Benefits Of Green Tea For Liver Health
According to a study published in the Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry, a combination of green tea extract and exercise may reduce the severity of obesity-related fatty liver disease by 75%.
Another study conducted in 2015 which was published in the World Journal of Gastroenterology notes that green tea may help reduce overall fat content, fight against oxidative stress, and reduce other signs of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease .
Shalini Bliss Garwin who is a senior dietician at Columbia Asia Hospital explains, “Modern diets including fast food, fried foods and preserved foods have a high quantity of saturated fats, which place considerable stress on the liver if consumed regularly. To optimize liver health, we recommend patients to adopt a diet that includes plenty of fruits and vegetables.”
“Green tea is also recommended because it contains antioxidants such as catechins, which help in protecting the liver. Antioxidants aid in the natural process of the liver which is of detoxification, and also eliminates the potential risk from free radicals. Various studies suggest that green tea reduces the overall risk of liver disease including liver cancer to an extent. Type-2 diabetes is also a significant risk factor for non-alcoholic fatty liver. Drinking green tea also reduces blood sugar levels and prevents the risk of diabetes,” she adds.
The Typical Treatments Does Green Tea Help With Fatty Liver
The primary treatment for fatty liver disease is surgery. This involves removing or dissolving the fatty liver cell. Surgery can be used for treating both severe and moderate cases. But the downside to surgery is that it can leave you with scarring that could impede your progress in losing weight and even your ability to stand up.
A more common way to diagnose fatty liver disease is through the use of liver function tests called a CT scan and an MRI. These tests will show whether or not your liver is functioning to its fullest capacity. If it shows signs of inflammation then your doctor may want to prescribe medication that will reduce inflammation. If there is fluid buildup in your abdomen, then your doctor may use a procedure called a liposuction to remove some of the fluid and reduce the swelling in the abdominal area.
The diagnosis of fatty liver is a little more tricky. A biopsy of your liver from the abdominal area will reveal inflammation, but it might not be fatty liver. It could be something else like hepatitis B or C, or even HIV if it is contained in its early stages. If the biopsy indicates the presence of fatty liver, then your doctor will conduct a trial of anti viral medication to make sure that the hepatitis does not develop into cirrhosis of the liver which would be very serious.

Effects Of Green Tea On Aspartate Transaminase And Alanine Transaminase Levels
The liver injury was accessed by the detection of serum AST and ALT levels and results are shown in Figure 5. In comparison with the control group, although no significant increment of ALT level was observed in the model group , AST level in serum was remarkably elevated , hinting the existence of liver injury induced by HFD. No significant difference in AST and ALT levels was observed between most of the 10 green teas groups and model group, but a decreasing trend of AST and ALT levels was found in the Fenggang Zinc-Selenium-Enriched Tea and Chaoqing Green Tea groups . On the other hand, Jieyang Chaoqing Tea and Selenium-Enriched Chaoqing Green Tea could further increase the ALT activity , which hinted their possible damage to the hepatocytes in mice.
