Heres How Starbucks Makes A Grande Iced Chai Latte

How I Make An Ice Chai Tea Latte Like Starbucks

There are only three ingredients in a Starbucks iced chai latte:

  • Highly concentrated chai concentrate
  • Ice
  • Directions for a grande iced chai latte

    • Add 4 pumps of chai concentrate directly into the cup
    • Add milk up to the third black line cup marking
    • Fill the cup with ice and give it a swirl to mix

Now, take a careful look at the photo below.

Notice that the four pumps of concentrate comes up to the first clear line on the cup.

I did a little experiment to see how much liquid it takes to get to that line and its cup.

Next, Starbucks baristas add milk up to the third black line on the cold cup. To get from the clear line to the third black line takes an additional 1 cup of liquid.

Finally, fill the remaining space with ice. A quick swirl of the cup mixes the ingredients together nicely.

How To Make The Perfect Tea Latte

How To Make Chai Tea Latte at Home Better Than the Barista ...

If you know anything about me, you know Im a huge tea nerd. If I was forced to choose between never eating again and never drinking green tea again I would have to think hard about that decision.

The funny thing about this chai latte is that it uses simple, inexpensive Tazo tea for the best results. Oh sure, Ive tried all the top first flush Darjeelings and Assams perfectly spiced with cardamom. And you know what? They make terrible lattes. Theres something about this simple Tazo tea that has the perfect blend of spices.

Were using chai for this tea latte, but you can easily substitute your favorite tea and the process will work the same.

    Ingredients:

    • 1 tablespoon agave nectar
    • A pinch cinnamon

In addition to the ingredients above, youll also need a saucepan, a mini-whisk , and something to strain the loose tea out of the liquid .

    Step One: Heat

In a saucepan, combine the non-dairy milk and water. Heat the mixture until it begins to simmer, but stir regularly and definitely dont let it boil.

It is important to use 2 parts milk and 1 part water for the right consistency. If youre making a larger latte, simply keep these ratios consistent. I like to use soy milk for tea lattes, but feel free to use almond, rice, etc.

    Step Two: Combine

    Step Three: Brew

Then, remove from the heat and let sit for 4-5 minutes to give the tea even longer to brew. At this point, add in the agave, vanilla, and a pinch of cinnamon to boost the spiciness.

    Step Four: Strain

    Starbucks Iced Chai Latte Recipe

Have you ever tried making a copycat Starbucks iced chai recipe? Did its flavor measure up to a barista-made drink?

To help you figure out how to make your at-home recipe be more like Starbucks, let me show you exactly how they make it at Starbucks.

And by exact, I mean the exact ingredients and exact proportions. My daughter is a barista at Starbucks, so this is the real deal.

Starbucks syrup and concentrate are measured by the number of pumps thats squirted into each cup.

Although, the barista may also use the black lines on the cup for measuring, as well. If youve never noticed those lines, now you will.

Since we dont have pumps and lines on our cups at home, I got an empty Starbucks cup and figured out the exact quantities needed.

The Five Spices Used In Chai Tea Latte

Tazo 32 oz. Skinny Chai Tea Latte 1:1 Concentrate

Youll use a black tea concentrate in this recipe, but just in case you want to make it from scratch, here are the five spices that make-up chai.

    1. Green Cardamom. This floral-scented spice gives a smoky and earthy flavor to the tea. Green cardamom is a must-have for making chai. Do not skip this one out! Get whole pods instead of seeds for better flavor. Crack them before steeping the tea.

    2. Cloves. Unlike green cardamom, this one is optional. Its highly recommended, though! Its flavor blends really well with sweet cinnamon and spicy black pepper. Its also super fragrant.

    3. Cinnamon Stick. This ones another non-negotiable. Its sweetness counteracts the earthiness of the cardamom and the spiciness of the pepper.;

    4. Fresh Ginger. Its mild spice is responsible for that soothing sensation you feel on the back of your throat as you drink the tea.

    5. Black Peppercorns. It may sound strange adding this to a drink, but its another must-have! It gives the drink that subtle kick of spice that makes it cozy and warm.

Is Chai Latte Coffee Or Tea

Chai is tea. In fact the word chai literally means tea in many parts of the world. In China, where tea originated, the word for tea is pronounced like cha.

So when you order a chai tea latte, you are in fact saying tea tea latte. And that doesnt make much sense.

The real name of this drink, with its roots in India, is actually masala chai, which means mixed spiced tea. However, most menus in American coffee shops call it chai latte.

How To Make Chai Tea Concentrate From Tea Bags

    June 19, 2018 by Jessica

Make your own chai tea latte concentrate at home from tea bags! Cheaper than store bought concentrate with no extra ingredients. Simply mix with milk and pour over ice or keep it warm for a homemade chai tea latte!

My cousin initially introduced me to chai tea lattes in high school and my life was forever changed.

Seriously, I made it my mission in college to find the best chai tea latte in College Station.

To this day, one sip;of it takes me back to her kitchen in Austin. Whenever I go visit I always know the fridge will be stocked with milk and chai tea latte concentrate to make our own chai tea lattes each morning.

With Texas heat nearing the 100s, most mornings Im having either homemade cold brew coffee or a chai tea latte. You can buy chai tea concentrate at the store or you can make your own from tea bags.

In a pinch I love Tazos chai tea latte concentrate, but I also know that it packs 16g/sugar per 1/2 cup serving. Yikes. You can either make this chai tea latte concentrate sugar free or use any your sweetener of choice!

Pour Chai Concentrate In A Cup

Fill a drinking cup or mug halfway with Tazo black tea chai concentrate. Tazo recommends using equal parts of chai and milk. If youre using another brand, be sure and follow their instructions.

If the box of chai is unopened and room temperature, theres no need to heat it up.

However, if its been in the refrigerator, you need to warm the chai up. You can do this using a microwave or on the stove.

That being said, it doesnt need to be super hot since steamed milk will be poured over it.
