When Should You Drink Green Tea
Green tea can be a great choice at any time of the day. However, all green teas contain caffeine, so if you are sensitive to caffeine or it prevents you from a good nights sleep, avoid green tea after early afternoon. Green tea will usually have less caffeine than black tea, and always less than a cup of coffee. Types with the highest amount of caffeine are Japanese shaded Gyokuro tea and some types of Japanese sencha teas and Chinese Long Jing tea. Some green teas have naturally low levels of caffeine. They are Japanese Genmaicha made with bancha tea leaves, Japanese Hojicha roasted tea and Japanese Kukicha twig tea. Studies showed that drinking 5 cups of low caffeine green tea a day may promote better sleep.

How To Brew Green Tea
All of our loose-leaf tea comes with brewing instructions but nevertheless, there is a general consensus on how to brew Green tea.
First of all, scoop one tablespoon of loose Green tea and place it into an infuser or empty tea bag. Make sure that you boil the kettle to reach a temperature of 80°C. But this temperature can differ between certain green teas.
All of the Green tea we supply contains information and brewing instructions. If uncertain about the temperature, remove the kettle before it reaches the boil.
Pour the water into your tea cup first, this will avoid scoldering the tea leaves. Place the infuser inside the tea cup and let it steep for from 20-30 seconds to 3-5 minutes. It is important to note that high quality green tea can typically be infused more than once.
When your Green tea has finished steeping, enjoy it on its own or add lemon, although this will take the natural flavour away. Some of our green tea range also includes added flavors, such as: Chocolate, Roses or Cherries.

To ensure youre getting a green tea worth sipping, buy tea from a reputable company that can tell you when and how the tea was processed and packaged. And ask your tea purveyor for directions on how to brew the best cup of that particular variety of tea.
Since green tea is less oxidized than its black tea cousin, it is technically fresher and more delicate, so it should be consumed more quickly for maximum flavor. Green tea is best consumed within six months to a year of purchase. You should also take care to store your green tea in a cool, dark place, away from light, oxygen, moisture and fragrant pantry companions like coffee or spices.

All tea is made from the same plant.Yes, you read right, all tea, whether its black, oolong, green, white, or pu-erh, comes from the Camellia sinensis plant in the same way that all wine comes from the grape, albeit different varietals.
Like wine, different tea leaf varietals have developed in different geographic locations. Each tea varietals unique characteristics are the result of the human selection, soil composition, and local weather patterns.
Processing makes all the difference.Processing the tea in different ways creates different kinds of teas.
In general, the more oxidized the tea is, the darker the infusion will be.White tea and Green tea are the least oxidized and the color of these teas is little changed from the buds and leaves on the bush.Black tea undergoes a complex and lengthy processing, which involves full oxidation of the leaves.
The amount of oxidation a tealeaf is allowed to undergo before this oxidation is stopped, determines what kind of tea you will get. More oxidation produces dark-colored Black and Pu-erh teas. - Herbs: mint, peppermint, or chocolate mint all work well. Lemongrass is also a great option.

Import Of Radioactive Japanese Tea
On 17 June 2011, at Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris, France,radioactivecesium of 1,038 becquerels per kilogram was measured in tea leaves imported from Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan as a result of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster on 11 March, which was more than twice the restricted amount in the European Union of 500 becquerels per kilogram. The government of France announced that they rejected the leaves, which totaled 162 kilograms .
In response, the governor of Shizuoka Prefecture, Heita Kawakatsu, stated: “there is absolutely no problem when they drink them because it will be diluted to about 10 becquerels per kilogram when they steep them even if the leaves have 1,000 becquerels per kilogram ” a statement backed by tests done in Shizuoka. Japanese Minister for Consumer Affairs and Food Safety Renh stated on 3 June 2011 that “there are cases in which aracha are sold as furikake and so on and they are eaten as they are, therefore we think that it is important to inspect tea leaves including aracha from the viewpoint of consumers’ safety.”
In 2018, the US Food and Drug Administration updated its import status on Japanese products deemed to be contaminated by radionuclides, indicating that tea from the Ibaraki prefecture had been removed from the list by the Government of Japan in 2015.
Autophagy Properties Of Green Tea

Green tea polyphenols, along with isoflavones, resveratrol, quercetin, and curcumin, were observed to activate autophagy in SH-SY5Y cells, which was suppressed by atrazine . Green tea was able to activate autophagy in HL-60 xenographs by increasing the activity of PI3 kinase and BECLIN-1 . EGCG can also protect the primary neuronal cells from prion diseases activating autophagy by inducing sirtuins . It can also inhibit the growth of breast cancer cells in vitro and in vivo by altering autophagy, as it increases the formation of autophagosomes and autolysosomes . Similarly, brain cancer cells can also use EGCG to induce autophagy . In microglial cells, green tea catechins were observed to prevent hypoxia-induced oxidative stress and cell death by inducing autophagy .
Interestingly, higher concentrations of EGCG, for example, 100μM in macrophage cell lines, can inhibit autophagy leading to apoptosis . On the whole, the autophagy properties of green tea depend upon the dosage used, level of stress, and the cells involved . Until now there has not been a clear idea of the mechanism of action initiated by green tea extract to mediate autophagy .

When softened with water, the gunpowder pellets will unravel and provide a light grassy infusion with a robust harshness. Soften leaves by rinsing with hot water first and re-infuse several times.

Some Types Of Japanese Green Tea Explained:
Gyokuru: This tea is made from the first flush of tea leaves which have been shaded in the final month before plucking to ensure a sweet and delicious taste. The leaf is rolled into a needle-like shape and is known to be the highest quality tea available. It has an intense green colour and comes with a sweet flavour.
Matcha: This tea consists of finely grounded green tea powder and is used with tencha tea leaves. Matcha has a rich, vegetal flavour and has been used for Japanese tea ceremonies. Subsequently, you can buy Matcha with a ceremonial grade, much like our true organic Matcha green tea.
Bancha: This tea is made from the later flush of tea leaves at the end of summer and beginning of autumn. This tea contains more stems and firm, larger leaves which tend to have been discarded from Sencha production. It is known as less astringent and more aromatic than Sencha. Nevertheless, Bancha is appreciated in Japan for its robust flavour.
Geinmaicha: The popcorn of the loose leaf tea world. A blended tea made from second flush Bancha tea leaves and roasted brown rice . This tea has a nutty taste with a toasted, sweet flavour. Once known as poor peoples tea in Japan, this is now enjoyed by all of society.
Kukicha: This is known as twig or stalk tea. The stems, stalks and twigs come mainly from Sencha or Matcha production. Kukicha is also known as Bcha. This tea contains nearly no caffeine and provides a light yellow, golden cup with a nutty taste.
