GABA stands for Gamma-AminoButyric Acid. Itsa component directly responsible for regulating our muscle tone, calming the nerves, improving sleep, and balancing our moods.

A GABA tea must have at least 150 mg of gamma-Aminobutyric acid for every 100 grams of tea leaves. Today, the biggest producers of this tea are in Taiwan, primarily producing GABA oolong tea.

We can also receive GABA from regular teas, not only from special GABA-rich tea. The L-theanine that we find in tea aids the body in its gamma-Aminobutyric acid production. Having this component in our bodies is vital for maintaining physical and emotional balance.

Medium Roast Or Oxidation Oolong

Serious Eats / Vicky Wasik

Flavor profile: Mellow and warming.Oxidation level: Moderate.Roasting: Medium.

Kick up an oolongâs oxidation more, or subject it to a controlled roast, and you lose the super-fresh aromatics of the jade styles. These more heavily processed teas develop more warm spice notes and a deeper, more mellow body. Youâll notice accents of honey, toasted grain, or white sesame, but with a more woodsy character than the red-wine fruitiness of black teas.

Taiwanese dong ding oolong is one of my favorite moderately oxidized oolongs, full of nutty, sesame flavors that can be brought out even more by controlled roasting. A related style, so-called concubine oolong, uses similar processing methods but with leaves that have been bitten by a tiny, leaf-hopping insect that drives the tea bush to develop extra-fruity and honeyed flavors. Then thereâs the traditional hong shui style of processing, which kicks up oxidation closer to black tea levels but balances out the tea with a long, low-temperature roast. The result is an exceptionally mellow and sweet brew thatâs full of roasted nut and dark fruit flavors, but smoother and with a thicker body than most black tea.

Generally speaking, these more oxidized teas will last for more infusions than their green cousins. A green oolong starts getting grassy around the fourth or fifth steep, but you can push many moderately oxidized oolongsâespecially the roasted onesâto twice that number of steepings easily.

Tea is a caffeinated beverage. A major benefit of drinking oolong tea is heightened awareness and energy along with sharpened thinking skills.

These effects are directly related to the level of caffeine, and a related chemical, theophylline. The effects increase as the caffeine level increases.

Some drink oolong tea to prevent or treat obesity and diabetes. One study suggests that drinking six cups of oolong tea daily for 30 days might help people with type 2 diabetes reduce blood sugar. Other studies â in both humans and animals â suggest that drinking oolong tea can help in weight loss.

Some people drink oolong tea because of a belief that it helps with other conditions, such as:

But studies done in these areas have been inconsistent and not conclusive.

Some studies have suggested tea might offer some protection against mental decline. While a recent study in China supported the idea that oolong tea might offer that protection, the results werenât conclusive and further study is needed.

Best Bargain Oolong: Prince Of Peace Organic Oolong

I am not a tea snob. I appreciate that there are times when a no-frills, no-fuss, easy-to-use bagged tea is the best choice considering your budgetary constraints and personal tastes.

But come on. Most of what passes for tea in those bags is not much better than the dirt that grew the tea. And theres no telling what agrochemicals have been applied to that dirt!

The solution to the bagged-tea dilemma is to go with an established brand. In addition, look for a brand that has made some effort to verify that farming practices do not include pesticides or herbicides. Go with a certified organically grown tea.

The Prince of Peace Company has been making people happy for years with their budget-friendly offerings, including a gentle oolong tea that is packed in simple, unbleached tea bags.

Reviewers applaud the consistent quality standards maintained by the company over many years of operation. They also appreciate that USDA organic certification has been applied to POPs oolong.

Tea reviewers describe this oolong as light and floral but with body emerges from a brief oven roast given to the leaf. Tea drinkers who are caffeine sensitive also report that POPs oolong has low levels of this stimulant, which is consistent with the companys claim of 30 mg per 8 oz cup, on average.

I like having in my cupboard a ready-to-use bagged tea for when Im short on time. For my money, I think that the Prince of Peace brand oolong tea is the way to go.

Oolong Tea Contains Vitaminsminerals And Antioxidants

Polyphenols are the antioxidant that most people are looking to consume when theyre drinking tea for health-related reasons. Some of the polyphenols that you can find in oolong tea include theaflavins, thearubigins, and EGCG, which are responsible for many of oolong teas health benefits. The polyphenols in oolong tea can help treat digestion problems, help with weight management, diabetes, neurodegenerative diseases, and heart diseases. They also have strong anti-cancer properties.

The antioxidants in tea can also help fightfree radicals in your body. Free radicals are unstable atoms in your body thatcan cause damage to your cells, resulting in disease and aging. As you age, your body loses its ability to combat the impacts of free radicals. This leadsto degenerative, age-related diseases such as Alzheimers, cancer, cataracts, hair loss, and diabetes. By consuming antioxidants, you will reduce the impactof free radicals and therefore hinder your bodys natural aging process.

In addition to the antioxidants in oolong tea, the nutrients are as follows:

    • Fluoride: up to 24% of the recommended daily amount
    • Manganese: 26% of the recommended daily amount
    • Potassium, sodium, magnesium, and niacin: 1% of the recommended daily amount of each
    • Caffeine: 36 mg

No Other Tea Offers More Diversity Of Flavor Complexity And Body Than Oolongs

    What is Oolong Tea?

Imagine if you went to a bar and the only beers on the menu were the lightest, most crisp pilsners and darkest, most molassesy porters. No nutty brown ales, bitter-citrusy IPAs, or twangy sours.

For a round or two, you’d probably make do. Pilsners can be great! And I love a good porter now and then. But you’d know something’s missing, and chances are, unless the beer was really cheap or the flirtatious bartender was really good-looking, you wouldn’t exactly be planning your next trip back.

For tea people in the US, this is pretty much everywhere. Want dark, malty black tea? Americans get that, and we’re not short on options for drinking it. Prefer bright, springy green, the most popular choice in Asia? We’re getting better about that too, and you can even find a halfway decent sencha at plenty of coffeehouses these days.

    Serious Eats / Vicky Wasik

But tell someone you’d like an oolong and they’ll likely just stare. It’s a tea so uncommon in the West we don’t even have an English word for it, and that’s a shame, because when it comes to tea, no category offers more diversity of flavor, complexity, and body than oolongs. And no style better shows what carefully manipulated processing can do to a tea leaf.

    Antibiotics Interacts With Oolong Tea

Oolong tea contains caffeine. The body breaks down caffeine to get rid of it. Some antibiotics might decrease how quickly the body breaks down caffeine. Taking these antibiotics along with oolong tea can increase the risk for side effects from caffeine, such as jitteriness, headache, and fast heartbeat.

    What Is Oolong Tea

Teamonkglobal Oolong Tea Loose Leaf 300 gm: Buy Teamonkglobal Oolong ...

Oolong tea is traditional Chinese tea made from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant, which is the same plant used to make green and black tea.

The difference is in how in the tea is processed.

Tea leaves contain enzymes that produce a chemical reaction called oxidation, a process that converts green tea leaves into a deep black color.

Black tea is allowed to oxidize until it turns black, but green tea is not allowed to oxidize as much and oolong tea is somewhere between the two.

This partial oxidation process provides oolong tea with its unique color and taste.

    Does Oolong Tea Go Bad

So how long does tea last? Its true that all tea eventually goes bad. It wont rot or spoil, and it wont give you food poisoning. However, tea past its prime is lifeless and nutrition-less.

While green tea has a storage age of about a year, we have more leeway with Oolong. You can easily store Oolong teas for a few years if you keep them in a container that doesnt let any light and air through and in a dry space void of pungent smells.

Furthermore, Oolongs become unique and very delicious when we age them! We should keep this tea stored in an airtight container, away from sunlight, for at least three years to age it. The longer we age our wu long cha, the more complex the flavors become. We recommend aging roasted Oolongs versus fresh, greener ones.

What Does Oolong Tea Taste Like

Mmmmmm! The varieties of oolong tea taste craftily complex and subtly sweet, even grassygreen with fresh, fragrant flutters amidst a bright and bold black tea body!

Sometimes itâs a little nutty and people say it can be kinda fruity too, but oolong istotally loveable for all its idiosyncrasies.

How many ways can I drink T2 Oolong tea? To begin with letâs tryâ¦

    • a heart-warming teapot brew of oolong loose leaf tea leaves, or
    • the luxurious blend of Oolong Chocolate Chai Loose Leaf Tea with just a dash of milk,or
    • a nourishing, nurturing cup of Milky Oolong Loose Leaf Tea gently brewed at 80ðC.

Oolong is a fabulously flexible and flavoursome tea just perfect when you feel likesomething different.
