Amazing Online Tea Stores From Around The World

Where to Buy Loose Leaf Tea Online in 2020 – Kitchen Witch Gourmet

This list of the best online tea stores bring you the finest teas from mystical places all over the world with only the touch of a fingertip.

Whether you are aware of it or not, a lot of your routine is dependent on the fluids you incorporate into your day. Do you start off with a quick shot of espresso? Or is it a shot of juiced wheatgrass? Do you sit by the window and drink a smoothie, or have a cup of cold pressed juice? Do you grab a filter coffee from the gas station on the way to work, or do you prefer those delectable third wave cappuccinos from the place on the corner?

Whatever your drink of choice is, its important to remember how integral these moments and routines are to us! Where would we be without our morning cuppa, or our afternoon get together with fellow coffee lovers. These routines are common ground for everyone, and help create communities.

Today were going to focus on the beverage that can be had at any time of morning, day, or night. It can elevate, relax, excited, and entice you. You can drink it iced, shaken, stirred, or of course, hot. Yes, were talking about tea!

In this day and age, with folks preferring to have things delivered right to their door, weve compiled an awesome list of tea shops and companies that will deliver right to your door. But not to worry, weve included places that ship domestically, as well as world wide!

You Dont Like The Flavor

Not all teas are the same. For example, Earl Grey loose leaf tea may be completely different from an Earl Grey tea bags from a supermarket. In fact, every tea shop is likely to have at least slightly different Earl Grey, or any other type of tea. When buying tea online, be prepared to receive a tea that is slightly different from expected or from the tea you tried before. Even the same tea type from the same shop will be slightly different each year. Experiment with brewing and learn what to do with the tea leaves you dont like.

What To Look For When Buying Tea Online

When cutting through the digital clutter of online tea stores, it helps to have some guidelines. Here are mine.

Beware the chains. I don’t need to name names, but you know the ones I’m talking about. You see them in malls and major tourist shopping districts. They carry more chocolate chai or lavender-lemongrass blends than straight tea. By and large, these chains just don’t carry quality tea. They buy leaves in vast quantities through middlemen brokers, then add so many spices and herbs to their blends that it’s often impossible to taste the tea underneath . The straight tea these chains do sell tends not to be particularly great, either. Better than teabags to be sure, but hardly first-rate stuff. You can do better.

Instead, think small. My favorite tea shops don’t have huge selections. That’s because the teas they sell have been picked out by the owner or some stake-holding staff member who’s visited individual tea farms. Some of the best tea in the world is sold entirely through personal deals and never makes it to wholesale accounts.

When reading product descriptions, look for detailed descriptions of farmers’ methods for growing and processing their tea, evidence that company buyers have seen the tea fields with their own eyes and have a good relationship with their farmers.

Does Loose Leaf Tea Go Bad

Where to Buy Tea Online

When they’re initially harvested and processed, tea leaves are actually dried for flavor and for preservation. This means that your loose leaf tea can’t go bad in the sense that it’ll make you sick. However, if you store your tea incorrectly or leave it unused for too long, it will begin to lose its flavor and become unpalatable.

Loose leaf teas often come with expiration dates. So long as you drink your tea within that given timeframe, it’ll taste as intended. If you don’t manage to finish your tea before then, however, the worst you can expect is a cup of tea that tastes a little less satisfying.

You may be thinking about buying tea online. There are many online retailers, and the increase in the number of online stores can be attributed to the convenience that comes with shopping online.

Therefore, how do you ensure you are shopping from a store that provides the best convenience, prices, and selection? We have compiled the best online tea shops to help you narrow down your search.

Quick Navigation

How To Choose The Best Tea Type

The biggest disadvantage of online tea shopping is not being able to smell the leaves or take part in tea tastings, but that can be a big advantage too.

Choosing the best tea type can be difficult even in the regular shop. Although scents may help in making a buying decision, they should rarely be the only factor. Unless, of course, tea smells divine. All leaves change scent after some time , and some are often different from the flavor. They may give you a very wrong idea on what to expect, regardless where you are buying your tea.

To minimize the risk of buying the wrong type, try to rely on the following factors.

The Elevation Tea Company

The Elevation Tea Company is a group of people who are doing really cool and innovate things. First off, they offer a tea quiz on your website, to help customers decide on exactly what the right type of tea is for them in that moment.

Another cool thing theyre doing is making their tea bags from abaca pulp teabags. Abaca pulp is made from a species of banana tree that comes from the Philippines. Not only is this creating jobs in the area, but the teabags are entirely biodegradable.

These guys also offer a subscription box so that each month they give you an entirely unique selection, for those of us who just cant decide on what tea to get. They offer crazy unique flavors, have you ever heard of bonfire smores tea?! I think not!

Green Tea: Buy Tea Online

Buy loose leaf tea online the first crop of the season 2021

In Japan, green teas are categorized as first, second, and third based on when the tea is harvested.

  • The first harvest of the season is called Ichiban-cha
  • The second harvest is called Niban-cha
  • The third harvest is called Sanban-cha

This is also called, New Crop or, Shin-cha. Since it is the first harvest, this is referred to as syun, or seasonable. Japanese culture value the concept of syun , and an example of it is a famous haiku where it must use a word of season syun in the short poem. The characteristics of the first harvest are that the tea leaves are still young, and bring in a richer and clearer aroma. The first crop is considered the best loose leaf green tea that can be harvested in the year.

The Best Green Teas To Buy Overall

Ill begin with, my favorite online tea purchase.

If you love the taste of green tea, youll want a sencha. This Japanese green tea has the quintessential green tea flavor: grassy, crisp and clear.

The best value Ive found is Eisais Choice Sencha from Art of Tea.

The leaves are high quality, but the price is very reasonable, with a sample tin costing $5 and an 8 oz. pouch going for $63, or 50 cents a cup .

If you prefer the slightly milder Chinese green teas, Id definitely go with a Dragon Well. It is the classic Chinese tea with a gentle, mellow flavor.

Once again, Art of Tea has the best value with their organic Dragon Well.

It costs a bit less than the sencha above, with an 8 ounce tin going for $52. The sample pack is also $5.

One big problem with this tea, and any other good Dragon Well tea, is availability.

The Longjing region in the West Lake area of Hangzhou is very small, meaning that the years harvest sells out quickly. And once a store has sold all its stock, they wont be able to replenish it until the next year.

You can still find a lot of cheaper Dragon Well, but it will come from other regions and thus not be a true Dragon Well, even if it carries the name.

Teavivre has a good alternative if Art of Teas is sold out. Actually, make that a great alternative.

Their Organic Nonpareil Ming Qian Longjing is the best Dragon Well youll find outside of China. Naturally, it is also much more expensive, costing over $80 for 200 grams of leaves.

Loose Tea Benefits: What Is It Good For

The benefits of loose tea are many. Right now, we all need to minimise our use of unnecessary packaging. If youre making tea at home, you dont need a teabag. Loose tea also gives you a better drinking experience. It opens up a whole new world of variety and flavour because so many of the best teas never make it into bags. Loose leaf teas also tend to cost less than the equivalent teabags, so youll save money too.

Choose From Popular Types Of Tea

Where to Buy Tea Online

Historically, true tea leaves are actually harvested from the same plant: the Camellia Sinensis shrub. This is the plant that has the natural caffeine and heart health benefits everyone craves in their teacup. It creates white and black teas as well as oolong and green teas.

Every tea type has a whole world of different flavors within it that varies according to region, climate, terroir, and more. Just like wine, a Cabernet Sauvignon from Bordeaux, France can have different flavor notes and aromas than a Cabernet from Napa Valley.

Black Tea is Bitter and High in Caffeine

Black tea is probably the most popular type of tea around the world. From Kenyan black tea to UK flavors such as Earl Grey and English teas, this type of loose leaf leaves its mark in different cultures. Black tea can be bold like Assam tea or floral like the light Darjeeling tea. One thing all black teas have in common is their strong caffeine kick.

If you want to replace your daily coffee with tea, then black tea is the best choice. Besides a high caffeine content, black tea also contains theanine, which promotes a sense of calm. A mug of black tea will wake you up, but it won’t make you anxious like coffee has the ability to do.

Green Tea has Antioxidants and a Unique Taste

Green tea is also one of the most popular types of tea in the world. Green tea is well known for its many health benefits, like boosting metabolism and being full of antioxidants.

Places To Buy Loose Tea

Where are the good loose-tea shops in Montreal? Are there any good alternatives to Davids Tea? I’m looking for something a bit cheaper, perhaps less commercial.

Camelia Sinensis. Perhaps not exactly cheaper, but far better teas on a quality-to-price ratio.

Ça m’intéresse alors j’ai commandé du genmaicha. Il y a quoi de bon, sinon?

There is a Kusmi Tea on St-Denis, not too far from the Sherbrooke metro station. Their Russian blends are full of ten sorts of kickass. Anastasia, Imperial Label, Troika, Prince Wladimir and Christmas Tea are some of their best.

If you can get to Laval, you will also find Amour des Thés at the Marché Gourmand near the Cosmodome at the intersection between freeways 15 and 440. There is another outlet in Outremont but I’m not aware of where it is exactly. Lastly, there are some other unrelated shop that sell their products. Look for the Perles du Saguenay Bleuets Géants, Feux d’Artifice, and Colosse de Rhodes.

If you can somehow make it all the way to Chambly, you’ll find Les Jardins Dévas. If you happen to do festivals, she happens to be on the fairgrounds during the Chambly beer festival. 7-Flower Sencha is foodgasm-grade delish. Orange & Chocolate is another great one. Rooibos Provence as well.

Finally A Word On Buying Loose Leaf Tea Online On Amazoncom

For most people, is the most convenient place to buy tea. They have a very large selection, too. Unfortunately, the large selection can actually be a problem. Much of it is low quality, so it can be difficult to sift through all that to find the best values.

On my pages for the individual teas, I give recommendations for good buys on Amazon. You can also use the rating system on their website. Most of their teas dont cost much, so you can easily try a few until you find one you love.

Amazon doesnt have too many high quality teas. If thats what youre looking for, you are usually better off with a dedicated tea vendor. There are some exceptions, though. Again, the individual tea pages on this site point some of those out.

If youre after lower quality tea, Amazon is a treasure trove. Silver Leaf probably offers better value overall, but Amazon has a much nicer and more user-friendly website and a much, much larger selection.

I travel in Asia a lot, so I generally get my tea from local tea shops in Japan and China these days. When I am in Europe or the US, though, I end up using online tea shops.

In the US, I tend to shop mostly from Art of Tea. In Europe, I end up using Teavivre for Chinese teas or Amazon.com for others, since Art of Tea only ship to the US and Canada.

You really cant go wrong with any of the tea stores listed on this page , so what are you waiting for?

Place a sample order and see what a difference high quality tea leaves can make.
