President Russell M. Nelson announced plans to build a temple in Pago Pago, Samoa, during the 189th Annual General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Groundbreaking: Oct. 30, 2021, by Elder K. Brett Nattress of the Seventy and the Pacific Area Presidency.
Deep Commitment And Faithfulness
The ever-increasing number of temples in Utah and parallel faithfulness of Latter-day Saints attending and worshipping in those temples is not lost on Elder Craig C. Christensen, a General Authority Seventy who is in his fifth year presiding over the Churchs Utah Area.
He was with President Henry B. Eyring of the First Presidency for the last time a new temple in the United States was dedicated the Cedar City Utah Temple on Dec. 10, 2017. He has either joined presiding Apostles or presided himself at five temple groundbreakings in the state over the past 14 months. And hes listened to President Nelson pronounce renovation plans for Utahs pioneer temples and announce locations for seven new temples in the state.

That shows me, as someone who focuses on this area, a recognition of the deep commitment and faithfulness of the Saints who are in Utah, said Elder Christensen of Utahs temple numbers and growth.
Were pioneers through and through here, but there are new people, too, said Elder Christensen of Latter-day Saints in Utah, a mixture of members ranging from multi-generational to first-generation members of the Church, and from those with long-time roots to the state to those who are recent move-ins.

About The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter
Attending church each Sunday is a respite from fast-paced daily living. Attend church at 1101 Northeast McCollum Drive to reflect, worship God, strengthen your spiritual connections, and focus on Jesus. Worship with a community of people who are trying to be more Christlike and learn from each other. There are two meetings in a two hour time. The main meeting is called sacrament meeting. This meeting consists of songs, prayers, and sermons given by different members of the congregation and take the sacrament . Temple Construction And Dedication

The location for the temple was first marked by Mormon prophetBrigham Young, the second president of the church, on July 28, 1847, just four days after arriving in the Salt Lake Valley. In 1901 the apostle Anthon H. Lund recorded in his journal that “it is said” that Oliver Cowdery‘s divining rod was used to locate the temple site. The temple site was dedicated on February 14, 1853 by Heber C. Kimball. Groundbreaking ceremonies were presided over by Young, who laid the cornerstone on April 6 of that year. The architect was Truman O. Angell, and the temple features both Gothic and Romanesque elements.
Sandstone was originally used for the foundation. During the Utah War, the foundation was buried and the lot made to look like a plowed field to prevent unwanted attention from federal troops. After tensions had eased in 1858 and work on the temple resumed, it was discovered that many of the foundation stones had cracked, making them unsuitable for use. Although not all of the sandstone was replaced, the inadequate sandstone was replaced. The walls are quartz monzonite from Little Cottonwood Canyon, located twenty miles southeast of the temple site. Oxen transported the quarried rock initially, but as the Transcontinental Railroad neared completion in 1869 the remaining stones were carried by rail at a much faster rate.

Meeting With Members After They Receive Temple Ordinances
Members often have questions after receiving temple ordinances. Endowed family members, the bishop, other ward leaders, and ministering brothers and sisters may meet with members to discuss their temple experience.
Leaders also encourage members to seek answers to their questions through the inspiration of the Holy Ghost. In the temple, the Spirit can provide answers to many of the questions that members may have about their temple experience.

Celestial Room: A Glimpse Into Heaven
At the conclusion of the Endowment ordinance, participants enter the celestial room. There are no ceremonies performed in this room. Rather, it is a place of quiet peace, prayer, and reflection meant to symbolize heaven, where we may live forever with our family in the presence of our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.
Other Denominations With Temples
Four additional Latter Day Saint denominations have built temples:
- The Church of Christ built a temple near Zodiac, Texas, about three miles from Fredericksburg, at a colony founded by Lyman Wight. The only remaining material infrastructure of the colony is the Mormon Mill cemetery near Hamilton Creek, about fifty miles east by north of Fredericksburg.

Temples And The Work For The Dead
When the Lord Jesus Christ was living on this earth, He clearly explained that there was only one way by which man can be saved. He said: “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” .
Two things emerge as essential if one is to believe the previous statement. First, in His name rests the authority to save mankind, as explained in this scripture found in the Bible: “for there is none other name under heaven given … whereby we must be saved” . Second, there is an essential ordinance, baptism, which is the gate through which every soul must pass in order to obtain eternal life, as explained in this other scripture: Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God .
According to the Bible and Church doctrine, mankind can only be saved through the name of Jesus Christ and through baptism, but most of the people who ever lived on the earth knew nothing about these two prerequisites. So, is God mindless of the billions of people who did not have the opportunity to hear the Gospel and be baptized by the proper authority?
Temples Have Been Running On A Restricted Basis Due To The Covid
The Latter-day Saint temple in Arequipa, Peru, is photographed in 2019. Faith leadership announced Tuesday that temples around the world would begin gradually returning to full operation.
Latter-day Saint temples around the world will gradually begin to return to normal operations as more people are vaccinated against COVID-19, the Utah-based faith announced Tuesday, including eliminating face mask requirements and capacity limits.
The decision to return to full operations will be made by local church authorities based on local circumstances, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints governing First Presidency said in a news release, which was also sent as a letter to church leaders worldwide.
Thank you for your patience during restricted temple operations that occurred because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the letter read. We are eager to return the temples to full operation as soon as possible.
The Utah-based faith announced in March 2020 that all temples would either close or be open by appointment only across the globe, as the coronavirus pandemic upended worship practices.
Since then, the faiths temples have been reopening in phases.
Latter-day Saints consider a temple to be a House of the Lord, where the faithful participate in rites that unite families for eternity.

Sealing Of Husband And Wife
âThe family is ordained of God. Marriage between man and woman is essential to His eternal planâ . A temple sealing joins a husband and wife together for time and all eternity. Couples who are sealed in the temple are promised glory and joy throughout eternity . They will receive these blessings if they are faithful to the covenants they make in the temple. Through this ordinance, their children may also be part of their eternal family.
Church leaders encourage members to prepare to be married and sealed in a temple. Where temple marriages are not legally recognized, authorized Church leaders or others can perform civil marriages that are followed by a temple sealing . This pattern may also be followed when a temple marriage could cause parents or immediate family members to feel excluded because they cannot attend the temple ceremony.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints released the following statement about adjustments to how patrons can make appointments for proxy work in temples:
As temples around the world continue to return to full operation, leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announce another step forward in helping members participate in regular worship in temples.
Members will receive an email informing them when the option to attend the temple nearest to them without an appointment will begin.
Second Floor Assembly Hall
The second floor hall was similar in construction to the Great Hall, except that it included the foyer area, the location of the vestibule. This made the room about seventeen feet longer than the Great Hall. A 41-foot-long stone arch ran north and south between the circular stairwells supporting the massive timbers for the tower above. The room had seven large windows along the north and south wide, with four windows along the east wall.
The floor would have had a similar configuration as the Great Hall with a set of double pulpits and pews, but the interior was never completed. The room was furnished with wooden benches for an occasional meeting. The second floor hall also included a mezzanine with fourteen small rooms.

Situated along the Capital Beltway in Washington DC, the Mormon Temple or the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in the last 50 years, has been frequented by only a select few members of the Church. Reason? Entry to the temple is prohibited unless youre member of the Church. However, that is going to change for the next few days.
The general public can now acquaint itself with the pristine hallways of the Church till June 11 this year, after which it will become sealed off for the public again. The Church has been closed since 2018 for renovations is considered one of the most sacred spaces. It was originally designed by Fred L. Markham, Harold K. Beecher, Henry P. Fetzer, and Keith Wilcox and its interiors as well as exteriors remain mostly the same, with subtle changes. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has temples across with globe 173 to be precise since the 1830s. However, the one in Washington DC is the tallest amongst all.

Instruction Room: Life Has A Purpose
At one time or another, most people have wondered about the purpose of life. Who are we? Where did we come from? Why are we here? Where will we go after this life is over? In temples, Church members learn more about the answers to these questions and Gods loving plan for the happiness of His children.
One of the sacred ceremonies performed in temples is the Endowment ordinance. During this ordinance, participants are reminded that our life on earth is part of an eternal journeya journey that began before we were born, when we lived with our loving Father in Heaven as His spirit children. We came here to receive a body, gain experience, and learn to follow Gods plan for our happiness. The role of Jesus Christ as the Redeemer of all Gods children is central to the Endowment ordinance.
Participants also make sacred promises with the Lord, called covenants. These covenants include obeying God, following Jesus Christ, being morally pure, and dedicating their time and talents to the Lord’s service. These commitments become guiding principles in their everyday lives. Honoring these sacred covenants brings greater peace, joy, and blessings in this life as they strive to return to live with God forever.

Preservation Of Historic Temples
Four temples are considered pioneer temples their construction dating back to the early years following the restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ and the organization of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. These include the St. George Utah Temple , the Logan Utah Temple , the Manti Utah Temple , and the Salt Lake Temple . Of them, President Nelson said: “The earliest ones stand as monuments to the faith and vision of our beloved pioneers. Each temple constructed by them resulted from their great personal sacrifice and effort. Each one stands as a stunning jewel in the crown of pioneer achievement.
“Ours is a sacred responsibility to care for them. Therefore, these pioneer temples will soon undergo a period of renewal and refreshing and, for some, a major restoration. Efforts will be made to preserve the unique historicity of each temple wherever possible, preserving the inspiring beauty and unique craftsmanship of generations long-since passed.
“Details for the St. George Utah Temple have already been released. Plans for the renovation of the Salt Lake Temple, Temple Square, and the adjoining plaza near the Church Office Building will be announced on Friday, April 19, 2019.
“The Manti and Logan Utah Temples will also be renovated in coming years. When those plans are prepared, they too will be announced.
The Manti Temple is scheduled for closure on October 1, 2021.

The 257-foot high Los Angeles California Temple looms over famous Santa Monica Boulevard in Westwood. The spacious grounds are filled with a dazzling array of foliage includingto name a fewCanary Island Pine trees, several varieties of palm trees, Bird of Paradise trees, olive trees, and rare Chinese Ginkgo trees. Two fountains, a large reflection pool, and several family-themed statues further beautify the grounds. North of the temple is a public visitors center that showcases a representation of Thorvaldsens Christus statue and also houses the popular Los Angeles Family History Library. The temple grounds are all aglow at Christmastime when thousands of multi-colored lights decorate the numerous trees and features.

The Los Angeles California Temple was the first temple built in California.
The Los Angeles California Temple was the first temple to include a priesthood assembly room and angel Moroni statue following the Salt Lake Temple. The spacious assembly room seats about 2,000 and features three pulpits on each end.
At the time of its construction, the Los Angeles California Temple was the largest temple of the Church.
The land for the Los Angeles California Temple was purchased from Harold Lloyd Motion Picture Company on March 23, 1937.

As temples around the world continue to return to full operation, leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announce another step forward in helping members participate in regular worship in temples.
Due to the pandemic, it became necessary for patrons to exclusively schedule appointments to attend a House of the Lord. Allowing members to reserve temple appointments has provided many advantages, including reduced wait times for patrons and ensuring members can participate in the ordinances as they choose. However, there are situations when members desire to attend a temple without having to set an appointment.
Soon, Latter-day Saints who would like to attend the temple to perform proxy ordinances will have the option to either reserve an appointment or attend without an appointment, where space is available. As priority will be given to patrons with appointments, those who attend the temple without a reservation may be asked to wait for an opportunity to participate. As it has always been, appointments will still be necessary for all members who come to receive their own ordinances .
Members will receive an email informing them when the option to attend the temple nearest to them without an appointment will begin.
