In general, sipping these teas regularly before bed is safe. While chamomile is listed on the FDAs list of ingredients generally recognized as safe , some people may experience some side effects. And, there are certain teas or ingredients you may want to avoid if you are taking certain medications, so its best to check with your doctor.

Best Teas That Make You Sleepy

When I was young, my grandmother used to make several cups of tea throughout the day. She made tea in the morning, at noon, and at night.

And if you wanted the best teas that make you sleepy, she always knew what to whip up.

I can still hear her stainless-steel teapot whistling over the stove. In fact, in the winter, she used to set the tea kettle on top of the fireplace to heat the water!

They were simple people, my grandparents. But most of what Ive learned about tea was learned from my grandmother.

What Will I Learn?

Spice It Up & Take A Sip

Now that your tea has steeped for around 15-30 minutes, its time for tasty add-ins like milk, honey, sugar, or even other flavored tea. This method of adding extra flavors can tone down a more intense marijuana taste, but its ready to drink as is if thats your preference.

Just remember, this concoction is an edible of sorts and will take around an hour to bring on any effects. Its at this time youll know whether or not the bud in your tea was truly activated. So, sit down, drink up and enjoy!

How To Enjoy Your Tea

This tea can be drunk hot or cold, but I find the hot drink to be more relaxing and conducive to sleep.

You can sweeten this tea, but I wouldnt recommend it. Natural or artificial sweeteners can have the opposite effect on your body than what the tea is supposed to induce in you. To have a truly relaxing experience, leave out the sugar.

How To Make Banana Tea For Restful Sleep

How to Make Homemade Sleepy Time Tea With Dried Herbs Like Chamomile

I thought I had bananas all figured out. Theyre delicious in banana walnut muffins, stirred into yogurt with a drizzle of honey, or dried for an on-the-go snack. But banana tea for sleep? Is that really a thing?

Yep, because bananas are so much weirder than they seem. First of all, they dont even grow on trees. Banana plants are actually tree-like perennial herbs, and the banana itself is considered a berry.

Also, the peels weve been throwing away all these years? Totally valuable. In fact, from now on I might start throwing away the bananas and keeping the peels for tea.

So, whats special about banana peel tea?

When taken about an hour before bed, banana tea can help calm the nervous system and help the body prepare for deep sleep.

Thats because banana peels contain potassium and magnesium, which are both natural muscle relaxants. Magnesium is often called magic mineral because it also helps with hormone balance, stress support, detoxification and more.

They also contain the amino acid L-tryptophan, which gets converted to 5-HTP in the brain. The 5-HTP in turn is converted to serotonin and melatonin, aka the sleep hormone. Although I dont recommend regularly supplementing with melatonin directly, I think its a great idea to supply the body with all the materials it needs to make its own.

But green tea does also contain a small amount of caffeine not as much as black tea, mind you. Go ahead and indulge in your tealicious daily greens in a cup but perhaps choose another herbal sleep tea as your fave bedtime tea if you are a little reactive to caffeine.

Does Chamomile Make You Tired

In a 2011 study, researchers tried to determine whether this herb helped participants with insomnia. They found that the extract helped slightly with daytime functioning but had mixed results on sleep quality, adding further studies in select insomnia patients would be needed to investigate these conclusions.

I gotta say, this sounds absolutely heavenly. I love cinnamon and so does most of the worlds population. This could be why people are using it in teas now, but why exactly other than the fact that it tastes and smells so good?

    What Is Sleepytime Tea

Teas, such as Sleepytime, are generally marketed as bedtime teas and are based around calming ingredients, like chamomile, which is known to calm the nervous system. They act by modifying certain neurotransmitters that are involved in sleep,Sarah Schlichter, M.P.H., R.D.N., says. Lavender, which has a soothing and calming scent, is also commonly included.

Other ingredients found in sleepy teas include valerian root, passionflower, lemon balm, spearmint, and lemongrass.

How To Prepare A Sleep Herb Tea Infusion On The Stovetop

How to Make Sleepy Time Tea

The first thing youll need to do to make this herb tea is to take a medium-sized saucepan or pot, place it on your stovetop, and fill it with 4 1/2 cups of water. Youll turn the heat to high and bring the water up to a boil. Once the water comes up to a boil, you have two options:

    • You can turn the heat off completely, or
    • You can turn the heat down to its lowest setting.

Once you have either turned the heat off or turned the heat down to its lowest setting, and the water shows no activityno water bubblingadd your leaves and flowers. It is very important that if you keep the water on a low heat setting, youll want to make sure the water is simply being kept warm and there is no water bubbling at all.

Next, place the lid onto your saucepan or pot and allow the herbs to steep for 5-15 minutes, depending on the strength of herb tea that you would like. A five-minute steep will create a more mild-flavored tea with less potency. You may want to start with this steeping duration if you are new to making and drinking herb teas.

If you decide to keep the heat on its lowest setting, the herb infusion will be kept warm at a constant temperature. As shared by the Simply Loose Leaf Tea Company, simmering herbs on low at a constant temperature will help to enhance the flavor of the herb tea.
