To say acne-prone skin is annoying is putting it mildly. Finding an effective spot treatment is a real feat, whether you deal with sensitivity, dry skin, hormonal acne, or all of the above. But tea tree oil for acne is a remedy to considerespecially if you’ve attempted to treat zits with classic over-the-counter products that result in rashes, irritation, and flakes. And while the wonderful world of tea tree oil can be smelly, it’s one of those non-irritating acne treatments worthy of interweb praise.

Tea tree oil sounds like one of those hippie-dippie alternative skincare treatments that surely can’t be as effective as tried-and-true ingredients like salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide, right? Wrong. Once you dab it over whiteheads and bumps at night, you’ll wake up, well, the same zits, albeit much smaller and visibly less irritated. Hey, nothing topical is going to get rid of your acne in a few hours, regardless of what the packaging may claim.

Can You Use Peppermint Instead Of Spearmint

Spearmint and peppermint are in the same family, but they are not the exact same.

The studies that were done on lowering androgens used spearmint tea.

I personally have tried both spearmint and peppermint in my infused water and have had the same results with both. For me there was no difference .

But, if you are trying this experiment for the first time, I would recommend using spearmint. Just in case. If you cant find fresh spearmint, spearmint tea is easy to find. You can get it at a health food store or grocery store.

Later on, once you know if the spearmint helps your skin or not, you can try peppermint.

Some Lifestyle Changes For Hormonal Acne

While following a good skincare routine can indeed reduce your hormonal acne, there are some other changes you must make as well. You can reduce your hormonal acne by making the following lifestyle changes:

  • Clean Pillowcase: This tip is for you if you do not change your pillowcases often. Bacteria can find a home on your pillowcase and worsen your acne. Therefore, you must change it after 4 to 5 days every week.
  • Hormonal Acne Diet: A hormonal acne diet consists of less sugar, salt, fat, and caffeine. Reducing the intake of these ingredients can cause your acne to go away faster. For further dietary recommendations to keep your hormones in balance, you can consult with the Top Nutritionists in Pakistan via Marham.
  • Physical Activity: Physical activity is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle and keeps your hormones in balance. So, go for a 20 to 30-minute walk every day and notice the changes in your body.
  • Avoid Touching Your Face: Some people have the habit of picking their pimples and touching their faces constantly. If you are one of them, avoid doing this because it will only cause more problems and leave permanent scars on your face.

Why Men May Want To Avoid Excessive Mint Tea Consumption

If youre a man, you might want to think twice about treating hormonal ance by decreasing testosterone levels.

Testosterone is crucial for your well-being. A healthy amount of testosterone is needed for energy, mood, and libido. A lack of testosterone can lead to anxiety, lethargy, and a lack of sex drive.

Trust me, as a guy who has tried to treat hormonal acne by lowering testosterone, I can confidently say that its not worth it, especially when there are more important hormones, like insulin, to tackle first.

Having high testosterone doesnt doom you to hormonal acne there are plenty of other ways to decrease acne-causing hormones and actually feel better on a day-to-day basis.

How Should I Apply Tea Tree Oil To My Skin

One of the most effective ways to apply TTO is with a damp Q-tip after applying moisturizer at night, so there’s a buffer between it and your skin. Then, swab the inside of the TTO lid with the damp Q-tip to pick up a small amount of product before dabbing it over zits. Easy, peasy.

Be forewarned, though: Tea tree oil has a strong medicinal smell that may or may not make your roommate or S.O. whine loudly. But for that sweet, sweet zit-killing relief ? All the whining in the world is worth it.

What Are The Steps In A Diy Skincare Routine

There are usually two parts of a regimen morning and evening skincare routines with specific steps for each time.3 Its important to apply acne treatment products as directed whether its morning, evening, or both to be effective.

While different skin types require different products, the order of application also is important for the acne skincare routine to be effective.

Morning Skincare Routine

Generally, in the morning, the skin care steps offer protection:

1. Cleanser Gel-based or bar cleansers are generally better for oily skin, whereas cream-based products benefit normal to dry complexions. Washing gently helps prepare your skin for the other products to be effective. Rinse with warm, not hot, water.

2. Toner Can lessen redness and dryness.

3. Serum Use a product that contains niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, antioxidants, and retinol to improve texture.

4. Moisturizer Hydrates with a formula best suited to specific skin type oily skin benefits from oil-free or gel products with humectants like glycerin and hyaluronic acid.

5. Acne spot treatment Apply on active breakouts on top of the pimple. Benzoyl peroxide to kill bacteria and salicylic acid to exfoliate and dry oil glands are most common.

Night Skincare Routine

At night, there are a few more steps to cleanse and repair:

1. Makeup remover Its critical to find a product thats both effective and gentle.

3. Toner Can smooth and restore skin.

Why Hormonal Acne Is More Than Just Sex Hormones

I Drank Spearmint Tea For 30 Days To Heal Hormonal Acne| Before and After

Sex hormones naturally rise during puberty. In both males and females, levels of DHT will be at their height, which is a large part of the reason why acne is so common amongst teenagers.

Still, it begs the question why is acne still so common in the United States even after puberty? In my book Unmasking Acne, I reference two studies that drive this point home:

More than half the individuals with acne during puberty continue to have acne after puberty, and many people dont even start developing acne until adulthood . Even after sex hormone levels have died down, we still find ourselves with acne. Furthermore, despite rates of acne being higher than ever before, testosterone levels are actually lower than they were in previous decades .

Furthermore, why do certain cultures, like the Ache, Kitavan and Sapara, have rates of acne for adolescents near zero percent, despite the fact that their teenagers still go through puberty, still have fluctuating sex hormones, and still have high levels of DHT?

Its because sex hormones arent the only or even the main, component in hormonal acne dietary hormones, like insulin, IGF-1, and IGFBP-3 are.

I discuss this in much greater detail in Unmasking Acne, but the number one culprit of adult hormonal acne is not DHT, but insulin.

While DHT increases the amount of sebum oil on the skin, which simply makes someone more suspectable to acne, insulin directly triggers the root causes of acne:

According to Linkner, the region of your face where acne shows up can be a good indicator of whether or not its hormone-related. She says breakouts showing up exclusively in the lower region of the face, especially along the jawline, can likely be linked to hormonal issues. Realistically, hormonal acne can happen whenever, but high hormonal states like pregnancy and premenopause are common instigators, she explains.

Best Sources Of Green Tea

Green tea comes from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis tea plant. Black and white teas also come from this plant.

Originally, green tea came solely from China, but people now cultivate it in many places around the world, including India and Sri Lanka. The majority of the high-quality green tea that we drink today comes from China and Japan.

Loose green tea is often of better quality than the tea that you find in tea bags. However, there are many high-quality green tea bag brands that you can sample. Whether you prefer loose or bagged tea, consider using certified, organically grown teas, as these wont contain any pesticides, chemicals, or additives.

Opt for brands that indicate the source of the tea and where it grew. Good brands to try include Yogi, Numi, Twinings, Bigelow, and Harney & Sons.

Risks And Side Effects

While you can begin by tackling hormonal acne on your own at home, you may want to visit a dermatologist if your condition is reoccurring or worsening. Your doctor/dermatologist can help pinpoint any underlying conditions that might be contributing to our breakouts, such as PCOS, high testosterone or cortisol levels, a thyroid condition, or another hormone issue.

If the treatments above dont seem to be doing enough to reduce your breakouts, speak with your dermatologist about other options such as antiandrogen drugs, which block androgen receptors to decrease the actions and effects of testosterone, or stronger topical prescriptions to fight acne-causing bacteria.

When treating hormonal acne yourself, theres potential to experience some side effects depending on the specific products and treatments you use. Some topical products might cause dry, red, flaky, painful skin at first, so make sure to follow directions, and remember that less may be more when it comes to improving your skins appearance.

If you have sensitive skin, such as eczema, dermatitis or rosacea, some products, such as retinoids and certain cleaners, may be too harsh. Certain products are also not safe when youre pregnant, so get your doctors advice if this applies to you.

Is It Safe To Drink Mint Water Or Spearmint Tea For Acne While Pregnant Or Breastfeeding

I dont recommend drinking mint water or spearmint tea while pregnant. Theres no evidence whether its safe or not, but it is an herb. Best to be cautious and avoid it.

As for while breastfeeding, large amounts of spearmint and peppermint tea can decrease your milk supply. Best to wait until youve stopped breastfeeding or are weaning.
