I was surprised by just how much I liked the Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Shampoo. It has an invigorating, herbaceous scent and gave my fine hair a much-needed deep clean. Im not sure I would rely on it daily, but overall, I think its a great formula for normal to oily strands .

We rounded up the best tea tree shampoo, because weve long sung the praises of tea tree oil. It’s a superhero ingredient for a variety of skin and hair care products, because the essential oil is both antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory it has been used for centuries in remedial practices to promote wound healing, calm swelling, reduce odor, and neutralize both bacteria and fungus.

One of our favorite ways to deploy tea tree oil is in a shampoo. Thats because the best tea tree shampoos do all of the above, but for your scalp. Which means tea tree can be the secret ingredient in preventing dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis. It is also believed that, as an extension of this tempering, tea tree oil in turn promotes hair growth . On top of all that, tea tree oils ability to balance oil production can also prevent a buildup of sebum atop the scalp, which is music to many ears. And it smells amazingno small thing.

The Ingredients: An Invigorating Essential Oil Blend

What sets this shampoo apart from others is the inclusion of tea tree, peppermint, and lavender essential oils. This blend brings the benefits of the oils together to improve hair and scalp health while providing a lovely sensory experience.

Tea tree oil has been used in Australia for hundreds of years to treat cuts, bites, infections, and some rashes. While the evidence is minimal, some studies suggest it possesses antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. This is good news for those who experience dandruff and flaking, but if this is your main concern, a dedicated scalp care product with clinically backed ingredients is still probably a better option. What I can attest to is that the tea tree, along with the peppermint and lavender oils, imparts this cooling, tingly, and overall refreshing feeling that I really enjoyed.

A couple other ingredients worth mentioning are panthenol and glycerin. Both of these are well-known moisturizers, so they can assist with creating soft, shiny, manageable hair.

Tea tree oil comes from a small Australian tree called Melaleuca alternifolia. As a natural antibacterial oil, it is able to thoroughly cleanse the hair, skin, and pores. Tea tree oil shampoos come in a variety of scents, from pure tea tree oil to mint. The tea tree oil content varies from one product to the next, and shampoos with a higher concentration are slightly harsher. You should choose a tea tree shampoo based on your personal needs, keeping in mind any skin conditions or infections you may have.

Benefits Of Tea Tree Oil

Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Shampoo, 8.5 Oz.

First, a word about the central ingredient of tea tree shampoo: tea tree oil. Also called melaleuca oil, tea tree oil is naturally antibacterial and antifungal. The conditions that tea tree oil shampoo can treat include the following.

Head lice: Tea tree oil can destroy the enzymes that support head lice, causing them to die off. It can be used to treat an existing infestation or to prevent future infestations.

Hair loss: By strengthening the roots of your hair and clearing out dirt that can slow hair growth, tea tree oil is thought to reduce hair loss and encourage new hair growth.

Seborrhoeic dermatitis: Also known as dandruff, this skin condition exists in conjunction with a fungus that occurs naturally on the scalp. Tea tree oil can greatly reduce dandruff.

Psoriasis: Many people find that tea tree shampoo can soothe and reduce psoriasis on the scalp.

Even if you dont have a specific condition that needs treatment, tea tree shampoo is an excellent shampoo that can keep your hair healthy, clean, and moisturised. The oil coats your hair, giving it natural protection a great benefit if you use chemical-heavy hair products.

Does Tea Tree Shampoo Kill Lice

Hereâs what you need to know about tea tree oil shampoo and lice â yes, it can be used to help kill lice once youâve got a lice infestation on your scalp. It will in no way help repel lice and may not get it all, but once you do have it, it can help you get rid of most of the lice by killing them. Many parents have now started to lean on tea tree oil shampoo as a lice treatment because itâs a natural option instead of others that can be packed with chemicals that can cause harm. There is also no one best tea tree shampoo for lice, but tea tree oil shampoos and tea tree oil mixed with regular shampoos in geenral can help out quite a bit.

The Results: Clean Voluminous Revived Strands

Emily Algar

The best thing about Paul Mitchell’s Tea Tree Special Shampoo is definitely the feeling. Like a mint for your scalp, its tingly, refreshing, and super invigorating. Results-wise, I found it did a great job at restoring volume and movement, all without stripping away my natural oils.

I will say, however, that the tingle effect is pretty intense, and Im not sure how it would fare with my scalp long term. While I enjoyed the experience, I dont think I would include it in my hair care routine permanently.

How To Use It: As A Standard Shampoo

Using the Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Special Shampoo is pretty straightforward. Personally, I like to wash my hair every second night, so Ive been using the formula about three to four times weekly, massaging it into my roots before rinsing and following up with conditioner. Those who have drier hair types or want to use this product to target product buildup could use this shampoo as a weekly deep clean treatment, as well.

I really enjoyed the Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Special Shampoo. Your Hair And Scalp Type

Tea tree oil shampoos come in as many varieties as regular shampoo and are not limited to any one hair type or scalp type.

If you have an overly oily scalp, look for a shampoo with a formula focused on removing excess oil and cleansing your skin. Stay away from products focused on hydration: tea tree oil already adds natural hydration.

If you have a dry scalp, you should avoid volumising shampoos, as these can remove moisture from your skin.

For brittle or thin hair, a fortifying shampoo especially one with tea tree oil is your best option to prevent breakage and strengthen your hair.

For curly or fluffy hair, a moisturising shampoo helps reduce volume and frizz.

If you have oily or greasy hair, a balancing shampoo helps your hair reach a midpoint between frizzy and oily for a healthy, moisturised feel.
