Also known as pearl iced milk or sweetened condensed milk. The drink is usually blended with ice to create a creamy consistency. Milk, evaporated whole fat coconut cream, powdered skimmed cow’s milk, maltodextrin , nonfat dry whey powder are the ingredients of this beverage. It has a sweeter taste than other types of bobas because it contains more sugar content in order for it to be absorbed into your bloodstream easier by your body during digestion compared to its unflavored counterpart called regular tapioca pearls or “gumballs”. Regular tapioca pearls has a lesser sugar content than the regular milk tea, and it is usually served with evaporated whole fat coconut cream.

How Do You Make Healthy Bubble Tea
Some people are concerned about the starchy carbs in the boba pearls, and so they choose to omit them altogether. But, lets be reala boba tea recipe without the chewy boba is just plain old milk tea! Ultimately, learning how to make bubble tea at home is your best bet for a healthier choice.
You can still enjoy the chewy, starchy, not-so-nutrient-rich tapioca pearls, but served in a much lower sugar milk tea! Ive designed each boba tea recipe below to be lower in sugar than the typical store-bought options, and you also have the option to not add any sugar or sweetener at all.

How To Cook And Prepare Boba Tapioca Pearls
- Heat 5 quarts of water on high heat to a rolling boil.
- Add 3 cups of tapioca pearls and cook for 3 minutes on high heat. Stir lightly to prevent sticking.
- Tapioca should float to the top. Boil for 12 minutes on medium heat with cover on.
- Remove from heat and let sit for 15 minutes with cover on.
- Rinse tapioca under lukewarm or cold water and drain excess water.
- Pour tapioca into a container to store and coat with sugar syrup and serve.
* The ratio of water to tapioca is 7 to 1.
** If preparing tapioca pearls using a rice pot, put water in the rice pot and cover to boil. After 10-15 minutes, the water should be boiling. When the water is boiling, pour tapioca into the water. Stir tapioca to prevent sticking. Put the cover on and boil for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, turn the rice pot off and let the tapioca pearls sit with cover on for an additional 13 minutes. Rinse tapioca under cool water and drain. Pour tapioca into a container to store and coat with sugar syrup.
UNCOOKED TAPIOCA STORAGE : After you open the tapioca, seal the bag as airtight as possible. Store in a cool, dry area but not in the refrigerator.
COOKED TAPIOCA STORAGE: Freeze unused cooked tapioca flat in a Ziploc bag. When ready to use, break off desired portion and defrost in boiling water until soft.
- Heat 17 cups of water on high heat to a rolling boil.
- Add 1 filter bag and steep for 20 minutes without the lid.
- Remove tea bag and pour into serving container.

Each homemade boba tea recipe that I designed follows the same basic formula. This isnt any kind of traditional or authentic boba ingredients list, but a simple framework that you can use to come up with your own bubble tea recipe flavors at home!
Keep in mind, each of my recipes yields 2 servings. That means you distribute the cup of cooked boba pearls into 2 cups, followed by the blended milk tea mixture. For a single-serving boba drink, use the amounts below to come up with your own homemade boba flavors.

Can You Make Homemade Boba For Your Dog
Yes, you can certainly make homemade boba for your dog. However, you can do this in a way that it will be completely safe for your dog to consume. One way to do this is by cooking plain tapioca pearls. When they are fully cooked, the pearls will have a chewy consistency.
Once they are fully cooked, you can bring them out to cool down, and I suggest cutting the boba pearls in half; that way, you can prevent your dog from choking or getting an obstruction in the intestates. I do not suggest adding any fruit liquids to your boba. They usually all have too much added sugar, so I think plain would be best.

Cooked pearls will last 4 hours at room temperature. Refrigerated pearls can last up to 3 days. However, these will not retain their original texture. While it is possible to freeze boba, we dont recommend freezing as the boba wont be soft and chewy. It is best to only cook how much you would like to use.;
On the other hand, raw pearls have a much longer shelf life. Dried pearls covered in starch can last 2-3 months if stored correctly. Store in a cool dry place and away from sunlight. Using an airtight container will help to prolong its storage life.

S To Making Bubble Tea:
1. Create a simple syrup by bringing 1/4 cup of water to a boil. Remove from the heat and add 1/4 cup of granulated sugar. Stir with a wooden spoon until the sugar dissolves. Cool to room temperature.
2. Prepare a cup of tea using your favorite variety. Is using tea bags, try using two to make it more robustly flavored. Discard the tea bags or strain the leaves and cool the tea to room temperature.
3. In another saucepan, bring water to a boil; the ratio should be 2 cups of water for every 1/4 cup boba.
4. Add the boba and reduce the heat to a gentle simmer. Cook gently for 15 minutes then remove from the heat.
5. Set the pan aside for an additional 15 minutes. Drain the boba in a colander then stir them together in a bowl with the simple syrup. The syrup will not only sweeten the boba but will also help keep them soft and chewy. Boba are best when they are freshly prepared but they can also be stored with the syrup in a covered container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.
6. In a tall glass, combine the tea and the boba and pour your additional liquid of choice up to the top. Ideas include milk, almond milk, or fruit juice.
7. Add additional flavorings, if desired, and serve with a jumbo straw.

How Do I Make Tapioca Pearls
If you want to make homemade tapioca pearls, mix 2 parts tapioca starch with 1 part boiling water. Mix together until you achieve a dough-like consistency. Form the dough into small pearls, then boil over medium-high heat. When the boba reaches your desired consistency, remove them from the pan and add to the tea.
Putting It All Together
Spoon the boba pearls at the bottom of your glass . If using, take your brown sugar syrup and spoon 3-5 tablespoons at the base. Add a few ice cubes. Then, add your milk tea. Serve with a boba straw and slurp everything up. Yum!;
