How to Make Starbucks Caramel Brulee Latte Recipe | The Edgy Veg

Caramel Brulée Latte According to Erin Palinski-Wade, nutritionist and author of Belly Fat Diet for Dummies, nonfat milk and skipping the whipped cream are the best ways to cut 130 calories and 17 grams of fat from one serving of this beverage. Healthline reports that Palinski-Wade recommends these substitutions.

Homemade Caramel Brulee Latte Customization Options

One noticeable difference between this recipe and many other latte recipes is the absence of steamed milk and microfoam. We prefer using the milk as the base for the caramel syrup mixture, but doing so precludes us from frothing the milk as we otherwise would.

One workaround is to hold out some of the milk, froth it, and use the rest to make the caramel sauce. However, using less milk makes the caramel sauce extremely thick and dense, making it difficult to blend with the espresso. On the other hand, using separate milk to create microfoam makes the drink quite milky.

If you cant imagine a latte without steamed milk and microfoam, we recommend following this recipe and frothing a small amount of extra milk on the side. Following this strategy makes it easy to blend everything together and lets you readily adjust the recipe in subsequent attempts if you want more or less microfoam.

The other primary channel for customization is milk. Using regular whole milk makes for a creamy, thick latte, but using almond milk or oat milk can give your drink a unique twist. Sweetened almond milk can be a bit too sugary considering we already include brown sugar, but unsweetened almond milk is a great option.

Oat milk is the more subtle, less flashy choice that adds texture and thickness many people find appealing. Other good options are other kinds of nut milk like cashew and hazelnut. We tried coconut milk, but we dont recommend it since it doesnt play nicely with the other flavors.

What Is A Caramel Brulee Latte

The word brulee is French meaning burnt or scorched. Its referring to the hardened sugar topping youd find on Creme Brulee.

The latte has caramel flavoring AND small shards of broken salted sugar on the top, which is a brulee topping.

Weve simplified things with this recipe. Instead of baking the sugar and sea salt for a topping weve used salted caramel.

This gives the salty and sweet flavors and makes the coffee drink easier and faster to make.

Milk. I used dairy milk when making the recipe but any any milk can be used. Use any fat dairy milk, nut milk, coconut milk, oat milk. Each will change the flavor of the latte slightly but use what you love.

Salted Caramel Sauce. I love homemade salted caramel sauce but store bought caramel sauce works great too. If you prefer regular caramel sauce over salted caramel, make that swap.

Also you can use a caramel syrup like Torani caramel syrup or the type of caramel sauce youd put on ice cream. Save some to drizzle on the top too!

Vanilla Extract. Will be used to add flavor both to the lattes and the whipped cream for the topping.

Espresso or strong coffee. Either use 4 shots of espresso or one half cup of strong brewed coffee.

Heavy whipping cream. Used for the homemade whipped topping.

Sugar. Either granulated sugar or confectioners sugar can be used. It will sweeten the whipped cream for the topping.

Whats In A Caramel Brule Latte From Starbucks

Caramel Brulée Sauce + Brewed Espresso + Steamed 2% Milk + Whipped Cream + Caramel Brulée Topping

Caramel brulée lattes at Starbucks are flavored with caramel brulée sauce. The sauce is thicker than most other Starbucks syrups and contains dairy. This means, you cannot get a dairy-free Caramel Brulée Latte at Starbucks.

On the other hand, since this is an espresso-based beverage, it is possible to get a decaf Caramel Brulée Latte at Starbucks.

Additionally, if you prefer the more mellow flavor of light roast coffee, Starbucks has got you covered. Simply order either a Blonde Caramel Brulée Latte or the iced blonde variation.

Whats in a Caramel Brulée Latte: The drink portion contains caramel brulée sauce, brewed espresso and steamed milk. Iced lattes get cold milk and ice in place of steamed milk.

Caramel Brulée Toppings: This holiday latte is topped with a signature swirl of Starbucks sweetened vanilla whipped cream and sweet caramel brulée bits.

    What Does Brle Mean

Brûlée is actually a French word that simply means burned. Just done take the literal translation with its face value.

On first thought, you might immediately think of the burnt, hard custard top of a classic Crème brûlée recipe.

When it comes to brûlée in coffee, it simply refers to a replication of the highly-addictive smokey flavor that comes from burning food.

In Nigeria, we have a recipe called burned/smoked rice. It has this characteristic taste that can only be created by literally letting the bottom of the rice burn for a few minutes.

Or by adding small bits of smoked fish to the rice while cooking. #sogood

I popped in a Starbucks Cafe Verona Dark Roast Coffee K-Cup into my Keurig and brewed it at 8 oz. This will be strong enough to mimic the espresso used at Starbucks.

If you dont have a Keurig you can brew your own coffee for this copycat recipe. Just make it a tad stronger than usual, or brew your own cup of espresso.

Now, for some of that Homemade Caramel Coffee Syrup. You can totally use those store bought flavored syrups, but I like to make my own.

Grab the Homemade Caramel Coffee Syrup Recipe here.

The amount is up to you and how flavored you enjoy your coffee. For this cup I used about 2 -3 tbsp of syrup. I wanted it to be as close to the original as possible.

I have even heard you can purchase the bottles of flavoring directly from your local Starbucks, or .

Now for the delicious milky frothiness. This is my favorite part. I took about 1 tbsp of whipped cream and mixed it in my coffee to give it that latte color and creaminess.

You can add a little more milk if you would like. I found since my coffee is home brewed and not as strong as espresso this works perfectly to maintain the latte flavor I was going for.

Depending on how sweet you prefer your flavored creamer, you can choose to add more or less half-and-half. I recommend starting with the amount called for the in the recipe â 1 cup, which will give you homemade creamer about as sweet as store-bought creamers. Then try it out with a little coffee. If you deem the concentration to be too sweet, add a bit more half-and-half until the creamer suits your tastes.

I am not a morning person, yâallâ¦not by a longshot. But I actually donât mind waking up when I know this Caramel Coffee Creamer is waiting for me in the fridge. Hope it brightens your mornings, too!

    How To Make Caramel Sauce

Homemade salted caramel sauce is super simple to make and its WAY tastier than store-bought options! I make mine with just 3 ingredients.

To make a basic caramel sauce, heat sugar over medium-high heat until it begins to liquify. Then boil without whisking until it until it turns deep brown.

Once its a dark copper color, add the butter and whisk until its all mixed together. Now, remove the pan from the heat and whisk in the cream.

Other caramel sauces that will work with this latte are this Maple Bourbon Caramel Sauce in the fall for a smokey, rich flavor and this silky Vanilla Bean Caramel Sauce. If youre not into salted caramel sauce, dont feel like this latte requires it there are other options!
