“The number one thing to improve tea at home is to stop covering it. This is essential for green and yellow teas. For other kinds, if the tea isn’t very good quality then leaving it open will increase the taste.”; Shunan Teng, Founder and CEO of;Tea Drunk
One way to brew tea openly is by using a fairness pitcher , which is common in Gong Fu brewinga traditional Chinese style of tea preparation.

Conventional Green Tea Bags Are Not Best In Quality
You should try to avoid green teas in normal tea bags even though they are cheap and convenient, since they are not the best in quality. These tea bags normally contain fannings or dusts, which are broken or small pieces of tea leaves treated as rejects of the manufacturing process while making high quality loose leaf tea grades.
Whole Leaf Vs Conventional Green Tea Bags
The essential oils evaporates from the these fragmented tea leaves during the manufacturing process of these teas. That is the reason you dont get the full flavour, taste and the health benefits when you use tea bags to brew your green tea.
These low quality teas have gained popularity in the developing countries, particularly because they are cheap and also convenient to put in normal tea bags. Of Course, tea dusts produce a very strong brew – consequently more cups are obtained per measure of tea dust.
Unfortunately, tea dusts lack the subtlety, smoothness and completeness of whole leaf teas. Also, filter papers which are commonly used in these tea bags may not be very safe since they are known to be associated with potential health hazards. ;
Yogi Super Antioxidant Green Tea
Yogi has a great reputation, but we grabbed a box of tea bags because we needed a refresher on what exactly we love about it. We fully expected this brand to be towards the top of the list, but the taste was nothing like any of us remembered it.
The tea itself had an unpleasant, citronella-like flavor, and it left a strange aftertaste to boot. In fact, it was so different from what we remembered that we looked into the matter further. Reviews from over the past few months overwhelmingly show that Yogi drinkers had the exact same issues with the taste and believed the recipe had changed. The brand confirmed that the recipe itself has not changed, but crop variations can impact the flavor. According to Yogi, the COVID-19 pandemic lead to a disruption in the supply chain and they’re getting back on track.
We’ll happily give them another try in a few months, but as of right now, we don’t recommend buying this brand, especially when there are so many other great green teas out there.

Green Tea Caffeine Vs Coffee Debate
Around here, we love a good cup of morning organic coffee, because coffee can be good for you. But, we also love the health benefits of green tea and the caffeine dose paired with the antioxidants.
Unfortunately, the biggest difference between these two are the added ingredients. Most people dont drink a black cup of coffee and add sweeteners, creamers, and flavored syrups. These additional ingredients can completely end the green tea caffeine vs coffee debate. With green tea, there is no additional ingredients needed to enjoy a cup of matcha. Whereas, the additional sweeteners added to coffee can significantly increase the unnecessary sugar.
Then, if you drink more than 1 cup of caffeine, then youve increased your chances of causing inflammation and other side effects from the sweeteners.
So, back to green tea caffeine vs coffee. While both green tea and coffee have tremendous benefits, we do think our Green Tea Shot Recipe below is an easy way to add the health benefits of green tea to your morning routine.
Then, if you still want a cup of joe, have one. But try to use natural sweeteners and homemade almond milk or cashew cream!

Green tea can be a great choice at any time of the day. Green tea will usually have less caffeine than black tea, and always less than a cup of coffee. Types with the highest amount of caffeine are Japanese shaded Gyokuro tea and some types of Japanese sencha teas and Chinese Long Jing tea. Some green teas have naturally low levels of caffeine. They are Japanese Genmaicha made with bancha tea leaves, Japanese Hojicha roasted tea and Japanese Kukicha twig tea. What Do You Need To Know About Green Tea
Sourcing real green tea is easier than you might think!
While it is convenient to pick up a box of tea bags off the supermarket shelf, you may not be aware that the tea used to fill these bags is of much lower quality.
It usually consists of the left-over broken leaves or the dust from the whole tea leaves.
I personally find this tea to be bitter, without the depth of flavour that good quality tea is packed with.
You will also usually find that these teas contain artificial flavours.
There is also the risk of over-brewing your green tea, which is a huge contributor to the excess bitterness and an unpleasant aftertaste.
These are the very reasons why I was never a fan of Green tea myself.
Then I discovered the real thing
As a tea drinker, I began reading up about green tea. I discovered there was a whole world I hadnt explored. Theres a multitude of loose leaf green tea varieties out there.
Fine green tea is produced in various countries such as Japan, China, Korea, Nepal, Australia, Sri Lanka and beyond. Amazingly, each variety holds its own distinct flavour profile.
Not only can you brew your favourite variety warm, but most also taste great as an iced tea.

Encha Matcha Organic Matcha From Farm To Cup
Let me start by saying, Lis, Encha Founder, passion is so incredibly valuable and inspiring.I first became in touch with Li before Encha even started. I remember he messaged me about a Japan trip he was planning and asked me if there was anything I wanted to know about Japanese matcha and organic farming so he could search for the answers for me.
Not long after his trip, Encha was born and it is one of my favourite matcha brands to support and indulge in. While Encha is superior quality matcha, I know that my matcha knowledge has expanded thanks to Li. Thanks to him, I realized earlier years I was being overcharged for what I thought was high quality matcha.
All Enchas organic matcha has no pesticide, no synthetic fertilizer, no preservatives and is non-GMO.
When I first tried Enchas Latte Grade organic matcha I was impressed with how smooth it was. It had little to no astringency when prepared with just hot water. It is, however, not as delicate as their ceremonial grade.
If youre new to matcha, I would say you could even purchase the latte grade, over the ceremonial grade first to give it a try and save some money.

What To Look For When Buying Green Tea
Green tea can be found as fresh leaves or in tea bags, frequently blended with other flavours such as lemon, lime or ginger.
When buying tea leaves, avoid older leaves. This is the same principle as with coffee beans. Allegedly, whole leaves are the highest grade and;leaves that are older than four months are past their level of peak freshness. Once purchased and opened, keep leaves in an airtight container that can be resealed and store in a cool place to help slow down the reactions that can reduce the teas phytonutrient content and impact on flavour.
Mighty Leaf Organic Green Dragon
Mighty Leaf makes our list of the best green tea brands because they use premium organic Chinese green tea leaves and wok-fire them to produce their Green Dragon tea. This gives their loose leaf organic green tea nutty notes of chestnuts and a light caffeine level. The brand also packs its loose leaf green tea in silken tea pouches for easy cleanup.

How Is Green Tea Produced
There are a few different ways green teas are processed. In brief, they are only very minimally oxidised, unlike black teas .
Oxidation is a process where the tea leafs enzymes react with oxygen soon after plucking. The process slowly turns the leaves brown or darker. Its also known as withering.
To prevent further oxidation, the leaves are quickly dried once plucked, to stop this process.
In Japan, the finest green tea leaves are dried by the process of steaming.
In China, the leaves are usually dried by pan-frying. Some green tea leaves are sun-dried.
However, for this process, the correct environment needs to be present; dry with low humidity.
Of course, this is not possible in some growing regions and countries.
Finally, the leaves are rolled or shaped and sorted. They will then go through the final dying stage.
The shaping and drying process will play a significant part in the flavour and aroma of the tea. For instance, Chinese green tea may produce a more, toasty flavour as a result of pan-frying. There are so many flavours. Some teas have a grassy flavour, while others have a more vegetal or floral flavour.
