What Is The Teas Test

HOW I GOT A HIGH SCORE ON THE ATI TEAS FOR NURSING SCHOOL | IMPROVED MY SCORE

The TEAS test is a nursing entrance exam also used by allied health programs. Its usually one of the last steps before you submit your programs application to get into nursing school. You might also see it referred to the ATI TEAS, TEAS 6 or the TEAS VI. These are all the same exam.

Are you taking the TEAS exam in 2022? Find out about the new ATI TEAS 7 exam.

The TEAS test is a high-stakes, standardized admissions exam. A high-stakes exam means that you, the student, can face consequences if you dont do well. Which is why Ive dedicated my career to helping students like you never have to think about the TEAS again!

Not every nursing program requires that their students take the TEAS. Some require the HESI, the ACT, and many have GPA requirements. There are many paths to working in healthcare. But if your goal is to get into a nursing program that requires the TEAS test, its time to figure out how you can pass the test and achieve your goal!

The TEAS is used by nursing schools across the country, but youll want to check with your top programs to make sure they require it beforehand.

Youll want to check:

Your schools nursing program website should provide you with the majority of this information. You can also ask the admissions office for more details.

Can The Teas Test Be Retaken

Students who score below the minimum score and are not accepted into a nursing school are allowed to retake the exam. However, the testing fee will have to be paid again.

Every school has its own set of rules governing retakes though.

  • Some only allow one retake per year while others allow three.
  • Schools also have a waiting period requirement between each test. This is usually set at 30 days but could be longer. However, it is important that you give yourself time to study and strengthen the areas where you failed.

Entry Vs Placement Testing

An entry test is part of the application process, and helps determine whether or not you can be accepted into the ASN program at Labouré. You must score at or above the minimum required score thresholds in order to be offered acceptance.

Labouré requires a minimum score of 69% in Reading and 60% in English and Language usage. There are no minimum score requirements for entry testing for Mathematics or Science at this time.

If you are accepted after your entry test, you will follow a My Academic Plan during your first semester at Labouré. MAPs are free online academic modules and resources that are designed by our academic advisors to help you check in during your first semester to ensure you have the tools you need to succeed in the program.

If you have been offered acceptance and you fall into the placement test range, you will take the TEAS during your first semester of enrollment at Labouré to determine your participation in the DSN program. The Student Success Center will provide information on the DSN program, testing dates, and more.

To test out of the DSN program, the minimum scores required are:

TEAS Testing

The Test of Essential Academic Skills was developed to measure essential skills in the academic areas of reading, mathematics, science, and English and language usage. These entry-level skills have been deemed important for health sciences program applicants by a panel of curriculum experts.

The TEAS is a timed, computerized exam made up of multiple-choice questions. The TEAS is composed of four sections: reading, mathematics, science, and English and language usage.

Topic
Key Ideas & Details, Craft & Structure, Integration ofKnowledge & Ideas
Numbers & Algebra, Measurement & Data Interpretation 36
Human Anatomy & Physiology, Life & Physical SciencesScientific Reasoning
Conventions of Standard English, Knowledge ofLanguage, Vocabulary Acquisition

To do your best on the TEAS, make sure that you meet all minimum reading, writing, and mathematics requirements for your program. If any pre-curriculum courses are necessary, complete those courses before taking the TEAS. It is advisable not to take the TEAS until minimum placement test scores have been met or minimum course requirements have been completed. It is also advisable to take the TEAS after you have completed ENG 111, ENG 112, and BIO 168 & BIO 169 or BIO 163 . You should also pay close attention to published application deadlines to make sure you complete the TEAS in time.

Example: A student takes the TEAS exam and makes the following scores: reading 82.5%, math 71.1%, science 63.3%, and English 74.5%.

When Should I Take The Teas

  • Students must register for and take the TEAS test prior to their appropriate application deadline. Ideally, applicants should complete the TEAS prior to submitting the Supplemental Application for their intended program.
  • It is recommended that students wait to take the TEAS until after developmental level courses are complete. This will not be possible for a small number of Practical Nursing applicants due to the timing of the LPN admission cycle. In the case of such students, simply wait to take the TEAS until as many developmental courses as possible are complete. The TEAS must still be completed prior to the application deadline. What will I need to register for the TEAS?
  • Students will need their a credit card, and an e-mail address to complete the online registration. For more information on how to register for the TEAS exam, please visit .

    Who Takes The Teas

The Pre-reqs, Grades, GPA and TEAS Score That Got Me In Nursing School

The TEAS is part of the admissions process for the Associate of Science in Nursing program. If you are applying to the ASN program, the Admissions Team will determine whether or not you need to take the TEAS based on the criteria below, and will let you know if TEAS is a part of your requirements.

You will take the TEAS if your cumulative GPA is lower than a 3.0. If your GPA is between a 2.0 and a 2.99 and you are offered acceptance to Labouré, then you will take the TEAS during your first semester as a placement test to determine participation in the DSN program .

If your GPA is between a 2.0 and a 2.49, you will take the TEAS as an entry test before you receive an admissions decision, and will test again for placement during your first semester if offered acceptance to Labouré.

You will not need to test if you meet any of the conditions below:

    • Your cumulative GPA is 3.0 or above
    • You have already earned a bachelor’s degree
    • You hold a valid LPN license

If you are required to take the TEAS for entry or for placement, your admissions counselor will help you schedule the test on-site or online through Labouré at no cost to you. Labouré is not able to accept test scores from previous tests you may have taken. If you just took the TEAS elsewhere before being asked to take it at Labouré, you must wait at least 2 weeks before scheduling your Labouré test.

What Do I Do Once I Have My Teas Scores

    • If you DO meet the minimum scores: You must submit a copy of your results to the HCC Office of Admissions. If you took the TEAS somewhere other than HCC you must request an official copy of your scores from ATI.

What Teas Score Do You Need For Nursing School

There is no standard score for passing the TEAS: the score you need for nursing school will depend on the school youre applying to and how competitive of an applicant you want to be. Your TEAS exam score will be used in conjunction with the other parts of your application to see if youd be a good fit for the program.

That being said, some nursing programs have minimum TEAS score requirements that you can find on the programs website or by calling the admissions office. These minimum passing scores do not guarantee you admission, but they ensure that the admissions committee will consider your application.

Here are some examples of minimum score requirements for the TEAS exam:

    Institution
    Minimum Composite Score of 62%

Some schools dont have a minimum score requirement but still require you to submit your TEAS scores as part of your application. You shouldnt take that to mean you can have a low score on your TEAS exam. You should always aim to have the highest possible TEAS score.
