Chai Tea Lattes And Foam
When it comes to making a chai tea lattes, its all about the foam. One thing weve learned from binging on Netflix series about the top chefs of the world: presentation matters. Food tastes better when it looks beautiful. Chai tea lattes are the same. A rich froth makes your chai tea lattes taste better. Plus, technically its not really a latte if it doesnt have at least a little foam.

Dirty Chai Latte Ingredients:
For a DIY dirty chai, the ingredients are pretty similar. But I switched up a couple of ingredients to make it even better.
Hot Water: Youll need boiling water to brew the tea, and hot water to brew the coffee.
A Chai Tea Bag: See notes at the bottom of this post for how to substitute loose leaf tea and chai tea concentrate.
Coffee Beans: You can also use ground coffee. I dont own a burr grinder yet, so I just used the grinder at my grocery store set to espresso.
Maple Syrup: I think maple syrup is lovely in a dirty chai latte, but see notes for substitution ideas.
Half and Half: Now, I like to use half and half instead of milk because it makes the latte creamier. Since youre using water for the tea and the coffee, thats quite a bit of water in the drink. So the added cream ensures that its nice and rich.
Can we chat about half & half for a minute?
I love Kalona SuperNatural half and half for making creamy, dreamy lattes.
Not only does it taste yummy, it has some awesome health benefits as well:
- Its made with certified organic milk from pasture-grazed cows. You can read about why milk from pastured-grazed cows is nutritionally superior in my Kalona SuperNatural butter review post.
- Since its batch pasteurized to just 145° F, its pretty much the next best thing to raw milk!
- Its non-homogenized, which is a rare find, even for organic half & half!
I find that its the perfect amount of creaminess for homemade lattes .

How To Make The Best Iced Chai Latt
I like to cold-steep my tea for at least a few hours, though sometimes I leave it all day. The beauty of cold-steeping is that the tea stays mellow and smooth even if you forget about it for a while.
I think four bags of tea per quart of water makes a nice spicy cup of iced chai. I recommend starting there, but if you think you’d like your chai lighter or stronger, just adjust the number of tea bags as needed.
I sweeten my chai lattes with a quick honey syrup made of equal parts honey and water. A syrup like this mixes more easily into the tea than straight honey.
You could mix the syrup with the full batch of chai once it’s finished steeping, but I prefer to mix them in the glass. That way I can adjust the sweetness to my taste, or to the taste of any guests who happen to wander by in need of a cool, refreshing beverage.
Top off your glass of iced chai with as much or as little milk as you like. Creaminess is a highly personal decision. I like to use whole milk, but 2% milk, almond milk, or coconut milk are all lovely.
One final thought: If you like to sip your iced tea slowly and don’t want it to get watered down with ice cubes, make an extra batch of chai and freeze it into ice cubes!

Tips For Getting The Best Iced Chai Latte
Use whole spices for a more flavorful chai concentrate. Whole spices are more aromatic and make a better concentrate.
Ground nutmeg is easier to work with. The exemption of the tip above is nutmeg: prefer its ground version.
Use filtered water for making ice cubes. Filtered water without chlorine tastes better and makes your drink even more delicious.
Make Chai Concentrate ice cubes. Thats great if youre a slow drinker like me. Its more work, though, but the result youll get makes up for it.
