It all began in 1795 when a French explorer named Andre Michaux brought tea leaves to America. At first, South Carolina was the only place producing tea plants, but it didnt take long for the concept to spread, and soon recipes were popping up everywhere.
They werent all that different from the tea we know today, though many were spiked with alcohol! The special sweet tea thats revered by so many today originally came from a cookbook printed in 1879. Housekeeping in Old Virginia was written by Marion Cabell Tyree and although this original recipe used green tea, it was the first to flavor the drink with lemon and sugar. This is said to be the origin of modern-day sweet tea.

Ive been holding out on you. If Ive seen a bit distant, its because Ive felt a bit distant. Really.
Since the beginning of February, Ive been a party planner. At least a party planner for one party that took countless hours to plan.
You see my father decided he wanted to have a surprise party for my mothers 80th birthday. He had never given her a surprise party and I guess that is one thing he wanted to cross off his bucket list.
So I feel like my second job has been party planning. Not that I mind. It was a lot of fun.
It also required a lot of patience and since the party was in Phoenix it required a lot of faith.
Well, we celebrated my moms birthday on Saturday and I must say it was the first time I ever saw her speechless.
My dad was in 7th heaven that he pulled it off.
I am now in perfect party planning mode for the upcoming bridal shower we are planning for a friend.
That will be so much easier because it will be in our backyard and I will do the cooking.
The first issue we had to resolve for my moms celebration was where to have the party.
After looking at all the major resorts my father decided that he wasnt giving a wedding he was giving a party and once we decided on Soul Cafe , the planning became a whole lot easier.

We all know that an Arnold Palmer is a non-alcoholic beverage made with lemonade and iced tea.
The spiked Arnold Palmer is basically the same thing with the addition of some type of alcohol, usually vodka.
You can make this drink in two ways:
- You can make a spiked Arnold Palmer by mixing southern sweet tea with lemonade and adding vodka.
- Or you can make the Firefly cocktail version by mixing sweet tea vodka with lemonade.
Both are delicious and refreshing. Both are perfect on a warm summer day. We had them recently on a cold winter day and thought they were perfect then, too!

This version is super simple. You just stir some Firefly sweet tea vodka into some lemonade. Homemade lemonade is best, but I dare say that if you showed up at a gathering with a bottle of sweet tea vodka and a gallon of Chick-Fil-A lemonade you would be the star of the party.
I understand that you might not have access to sweet tea vodka, and if not Ive got you covered! You can make a spiked Arnold Palmer by making up a batch of sweet tea, then mixing the tea with lemonade and then adding a bit of vodka.

Sugar Or Simple Syrup
As a cocktail blogger, I almost always have plain simple syrup in my fridge, but its okay if you dont!
It is super easy to make with just sugar and water. You can use granulated sugar, brown sugar or even honey.
You can also use just about any flavored simple syrup: See the section called Variations and Substitutions below for some ideas.
If you plan to mix it into other kinds of drinks, you may wish to leave out the simple syrup entirely so that you can sweeten each drink individually.

Unlike traditional iced tea, which is simply brewed or steeped tea served cold and over ice, sweet tea is served pre-sweetened! How To Make Your Own Sweet Tea Vodka

In a tall glass with ice measure in your vodka, orange liqueur and black tea.
Add honey, if you need it this will depend on the sweetness of your brand of iced tea.
