- Thyroid disorders
There are several more, and anyone who’s unsure what might be triggering their nausea should seek a physician or a gastroenterologist for answers. If the symptoms are mild, simply brewing a warm cup of tea could help.

Chamomile can be clutch for problems in the digestive region because its antispasmodic, meaning it helps reduce spasms within the body, including the stomach and intestines, Kluge says. It also contains bitter compounds called cesquiterpene lactones, which trigger the pancreas to produce digestive enzymes needed to break down food, she explains.
And because of its calming effect on the body, chamomile can be particularly useful for stress-related digestive issues, like a nervous stomach . So many digestive imbalances are a symptom of stress, including IBS, reflux, or diarrhea, Kluge says. When Should I Drink Digestive Tea
Try incorporating a few of these teas throughout your day to maximize digestive support. Heres a sample schedule you can work with:
- Start your day with 1-2 cups of black or puer tea, which contain caffeine.
- Transition to 1-2 cups of green tea post-lunch to help stimulate digestion.
- Wind down your day with 1-2 cups of caffeine-free herbal tea in the evening, such as peppermint, chamomile, or ginger.
This tea schedule gives you digestive support around the clock without much effort.
Which One Is Worth Drinking
While coffee may give you your morning pick me up, caffeine can actually irritate your acid reflux and make GERD worse. While the science is sketchy and theres little concrete evidence linking GERD and caffeine consumption, there does seem to be a trend in GERD being aggravated by drinking coffee. Along with spicy food, alcohol intake, and stress, eliminating these potential triggers could help you get to the root cause.
Drinking herbal tea is a much safer option as many of these teas have soothing properties to help heal the stomach rather than irritate it. Cut down heartburn and coat your stomach in soothing goodness by skipping the coffee and turning to certain kinds of herbal tea.

Diarrhea may be acute or chronic , depending on the root cause.
Some of the most common causes for diarrhea are:

Those with IBS-related diarrhea usually experience frequent and increased loose bowels. Other digestive disorders causing chronic diarrhea include microscopic colitis and celiac disease.

Helping With Sleep And Relaxation
Chamomile tea is widely thought to help people relax and fall asleep. Few clinical trials have tested this, however.

In a study using rats, chamomile extract helped sleep-disturbed rodents fall asleep. Many researchers believe that chamomile tea may function like a benzodiazepine. Stomach Soothing Herbal Tea Ingredients
PeppermintEver popular with its refreshing flavor, peppermint helps alleviate cramping of the abdominal muscles. A 1997 report in the Journal of Gastroenterology substantiated this claim and indicated that peppermint can have a profound positive impact from those suffering from Irritable Bowel Syndrome .
Somewhat licorice-y, fennel has wonderful anti-gas and bloating benefits. This is our go-to herbs .
Orange PeelI add dehydrated orange peel for flavor. I very much love the fennel and orange combination, as the orange seems to moderate the rather outspoken licorice notes of the fennel. Using a vegetable peeling, remove just the colored portion of a clean orange. Using a dehydrator or an oven at a low temp, dry the peels until brittle, then using a spice grinder or mortar and pestle, grind the dried peels to a coarse meal.
When at all possible, I highly recommend using organic herbs for this loose leaf tea. I have provided links to Mountain Rose Herbs in red for the ingredients, but any well stocked health food store should have these herbs in their bulk section. Note that I did use plain dried ginger root. I suppose one could use candied ginger in a pinch, but I try to limit our sugar intake to that which we are intentionally consuming . I keep a stock of reusable drawstring muslin tea bags on hand for my teas they last forever, are easy to clean and never break. I use approximately a heaping teaspoon per cup of hot water.
