Chai Lattes Are High In Carbs Because They Are Made With Milk
A typical coffeehouse chai latte, like Starbucks, is made by combining equal parts sweetened chai concentrate and milk. Starbucks uses 2% milk as its standard, but you can substitute skim, whole milk, or plant-based milks like almond, soy, or coconut milk.
Unfortunately, modifying the type of milk in your chai latte wont reduce the carb count enough to make a standard coffeehouse chai latte keto-friendly.
Even substituting cream, which is a keto-friendly food, wont make a chai latte low-carb because it already contains sugar in the chai concentrate.
The table below shows the carb counts for a tall chai latte at Starbucks using different types of milk. As you can see, changing the milk makes little difference in the carb count.

Chai Lattes Are High In Carbs Because They Are Made With Sweetened Chai Concentrate
Almost all coffeehouses use a sweetened chai concentrate that is a mixture of black tea, warming spices like cloves, ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, and black pepper, and sweetener, usually sugar, sometimes with honey or molasses.
Chai lattes made with sweetened chai concentrate cant be made without sugar or with a keto-approved zero-carb sweetener.

What Can I Add To My Black Tea
Black tea makes a great base for our high-fat, high-energy lightning tea recipe below. But your black tea recipe doesn’t need to knock your socks off with fats and caffeine. Simpler ingredients you can add to your plain black tea without increasing the net carbs include:
- Almond milk,
- Flax milk,
- Macadamia nut milk .
Other nut-based milks are usually good for keto diets, like walnut. Just make sure you avoid any carb-based milks in your keto recipes, however. Rice and oat milk in particular are higher in carbohydrates than other non-dairy milk types.
With black tea, you could even make a keto tea latte by using a milk frother with your non-dairy milk! If you want to bump the fat levels further, try adding a small amount of coconut oil too.
Are Different Tea Types Keto
There are numerous types of teas made from the same tea plant, not to mention countless herbal teas you can try too. But are they all keto tea?
For traditional tea types, including black tea, oolong, green, white, etc., the answer is yes. When you only use the tea leaves and fresh hot water to brew a cup of tea, it’s going to be ideal for your keto lifestyle.
The process of turning tea leaves from one tea type into another requires different levels of oxidation – this doesn’t impact the levels of carbs, sugars and fats in the tea. However, adding milk and non-keto sweeteners will, so make sure you read our section on non-keto teas below.

Does The Brewed Keto Chai Latte Taste Like The Standard Starbucks Chai Latte
I havent had an actually Starbucks chai latte in along time because I do avoid sugary drinks. So, as you can see from the photo above, I ordered a standard chai latte and my keto version at the same time for a taste test.
The original Starbucks Chai Latte:
It is not very sweet.
It is milky, but not really creamy, probably because it is made with 2% milk
It has a very mild chai flavor. In my opinion, you get a hint of black tea, cinnamon and cloves, but not really the spiciness of black pepper.
The brewed keto chai latte:
Was sweeter than the original, but not much.
Was creamy and rich, probably from the heavy cream.
Had a very mild chai flavor, but I felt it was stronger than the original Starbucks chai latte.
Neither of these drinks was as sweet as I like, or as spicy as I like my chai lattes. Before going keto I grabbed chai lattes at a local coffeehouse and their chai lattes are almost like a decadent dessert drink. Thats how I like my chai!
These two lattes tasted almost identical, but I honestly preferred the brewed keto latte.

How To Store Keto Iced Tea
To store Cold Brewed Keto Infused Iced Tea is in the fridge. There it stays cold as it supposes to be. Every time you would like to have some, it is ready to drink. And just in case you still feel you need more coldness in your summer day, just add more Ice cubes.
You can also store it in the freezer and I am already thinking how great this might look. Each flavor into a different container and you have a Summer dring with colorful ice cubes. This meal is delicious, filling, and these macros are great for keto dieters. Just be sure you order the ranch sauce, not the dressing, which has 12g of carbs.

These flavored drops can then be added to sparkling water or club soda to create flavored sodas. Also, by adding certain flavors to still water, you can get subtle hints of flavor to liven up your plain water.

The answer is a bit more complex than a simple yes or no. Some teas are keto friendly, some may not be.
Pure teas, including white tea, green tea, black tea, oolong tea, and pu-erh, are keto friendly on their own. The main thing to watch out for is fruits and other ingredients that may contain carbohydrates. Teas with large pieces of dried fruit may give you some sugars and carbohydrates that wont fit in with your diet. Instead of ordering lattes with whole milk or half-and-half, your best bet is heavy cream. Its high in calories, so factor that into your diet, but heavy cream is pure fat with no carbs. Itll also make your drink deliciously rich. If you want it to be slightly less creamy, you can ask your barista to do half heavy cream and half water.
