Getting a matcha latte isnt always easy unless you have a great neighborhood Japanese tea house. Thats why it was so exciting when Dunkin Donuts announced that it was adding matcha lattes to the menu in 2021.
If youre a tea fan, youre probably extremely curious to know if Dunkin Donuts matcha lattes are actually good.
I was also pretty curious. Thats why I finally rolled into a Dunkin to try their iced and hot matcha lattes!
So is the Dunkin Donuts matcha latte worth it?

Where Was The First Dunkin Donuts Opened
The first Dunkin Donuts was opened in Quincy, Massachusetts. After the first location grew in popularity, the owner decided to start franchising Dunkin Donuts in 1955. The first Dunkin Donuts in Quincy remains open today, and it still does not have a drive-through. You may not be able to snag a coffee for a dime like you could back in the day, but you can read all about the history of the location on a plaque inside the coffee shop.

Theres just a few simple ingredients in an iced matcha latte.
- Matcha This green tea powder is packed with health benefits and plenty of caffeine! There are different types of matcha, too, which points to where the matcha was made. Starbucks uses a custom sweetened matcha, which is why it dissolves so smoothly. For mine, I used a ceremonial grade matcha from a brand that I buy my blue spirulina from. They have really high quality products that are usually sold in glass jars, which helps preserve the quality and freshness of the powder.
- Milk Any cold milk of choice will do for this one. I used oat milk, because I stay pretty dairy free. You can use whatever you have, just know that if your milk has any flavor, it will alter the taste of the matcha latte a little bit. I think oat milk is a good compliment.
- Sweetener I used homemade vanilla syrup, which takes just 10 minutes and 3 ingredients to make. I share the entire recipe in this post. You can use a plain simple syrup , honey, agave, or any sweetener you like. Vanilla added a little warmth and flavor to the matcha, which I personally liked. Without any sweetener at all, youre going to get a stronger, grassier flavor in your matcha latte.
- Ice Gotta have the ice!
As far as tools for this one, youll really need some kind of mixer to really stir in the matcha. Its going to take a few minutes to get it to dissolve fully.

Dunkin Iced Matcha Latte
My first impression after having a Dunkin iced matcha latte handed to me was that it had the coloring of pistachio ice cream. I was expecting a slightly deeper, richer jade green after having iced matcha lattes at a number of tea houses and coffee shops in various places.
This is obviously intended to be a very palatable drink for the average Dunkin customer.
The next thing I noticed was that the pillow of froth floating above the green gave the drink a very creamy, dessert-like appearance. I was impressed that Dunkin had such a strong froth game with this drink because Ive seen lots of flat matcha lattes in the past.
You can even see from the pictures how nicely the drink kept its foam as I continued to sip.
What does the Dunkin iced matcha latte taste like?
The taste is actually really subtle. If you like the pungent flavor with a hint of bitter notes of really strong matcha, you might be less than overwhelmed by the Dunkin take on matcha.
However, the classic nutty, grassy notes of matcha tea are fully present in every sip. The drink is also sweeter than many classic matcha lattes.
Now, lets go to my final impressions.
This drink is satisfying if you want to enjoy a mainstream matcha drink. Its definitely one of the best Dunkin Donuts iced teas on the menu.
Id probably order one again, even though I wouldnt call this the best iced matcha Ive ever tasted. With each sip, the Dunkin iced matcha latte kept its foaminess.

I first tried to order the iced blueberry matcha the day it came out, but the cashier had no idea what I was talking about and just gave me a regular iced matcha latte. I was able to get it a week later , and the first thing I noticed was that it needed to be mixed. Not only could you see the blueberry syrup sitting on the bottom, but the first sip tasted very strongly of blueberry.
The blueberry was definitely still the strongest flavor after I mixed it, but you could taste a hint of matcha. As always with Dunkin matcha, the blueberry matcha latte is fairly sweet. I dont think this is from the blueberry flavor shot, as it supposedly unsweetened, but from the matcha itself. Blueberry is not my favorite flavor at Dunkin Donuts, so it wouldnt be my first choice too add to my matcha but, it blends well enough that it gives me confidence to try other flavors such as the raspberry flavor shot or vanilla syrup. In fact, Ive been thinking about trying all of the different flavors at Dunkin in their matcha latte, and the blueberry matcha just solidified that for me.
