Which Peach To Use When Making This Oolong Peach Iced Tea

How to Make Iced Tea

I have to admit that I have made it a few times using frozen peaches as we were not quite in the peach season. Since the fruit gets crushed into the drink, the difference between fresh vs frozen fruits was not that obvious. So, you dont necessarily have to wait for peach season for make this drink!

If using fresh fruit, then both yellow or white will work well. White peaches have a subtle sweeter and floral flavor while the yellow ones will create a stronger amber color.

What You Need To Make Homemade Iced Tea

I’ll call this version of my homemade iced tea recipe the make ahead method.

Use this recipe to make a big batch of iced tea the day before you need it.

Start with teabags that make a good, bold tea. I like these British Blend teabags for their robust flavor.

If you like sweet tea, make sure you have your preferred sweetener on hand. I use regular granulated sugar, nothing fancy. But you can use honey, Splenda, Agave whatever you like.

To infuse a little flavor into your homemade iced tea be sure to slice up some fresh fruit as well.

Traditionally, iced tea tastes great with some fresh lemon slices. But you can add peach, lime, mango whatever you like.

Oh yes and if you are wondering about that gorgeous walnut cutting board in the background it’s this one from Virginia Boys Kitchens.

    Make The Simple Peach Syrup

In a small pot, combine the peach, water and agave nectar. Stir and bring to a simmer. Let the mixture simmer for a few minutes while stirring and use a masher to crush the peaches a little to get some of their juice out. After about 5-10 minutes, remove from the heat, cover and let it sit for about 20 minutes.

Then, strain the peach mixture using a fine mesh colander. The pink-amber juice is what you will use as your peach syrup.

Although you wont need the chunks of peach thats remaining in the colander, I still recommend to keep it to spread over toasts, oatmeal, scones, muffins, etc.

As a side note, you dont have to use extra sweetener if your fruits are super sweet.

    • Top with ice & fresh fruit for extra flavour. Lemons and limes go well with traditional teas and red berries and passion fruit taste amazing with our fruit and herbal infusions.

We like to keep the temples in, as they will continue to infuse – but feel free to take them out if you’d prefer.

    Brew At The Right Temperatures

Stronger teas such as oolong teas and black teas should be brewed under higher temperatures to ensure they extract all the flavors and content right. Therefore, by brewing them using boiling water, they will extract all the content.

However, lighter teas such as white tea, fruit-mixed teas, and green tea, only need hot water for them to steep right. Using boiling water for these teas will make the flavor overly intense, and they will be bitter.

It is so easy to make homemade iced tea I can’t believe that I don’t do it more often.

Now that summer is here, a refreshing glass of iced tea really hits the spot. But buying ready made iced tea to drink at home can get expensive. And why use more disposable bottles and containers than you need to?

A box of your favorite tea bags is very economical, and with a little planning you can always have freshly brewed iced tea on hand for your family.

Here’s a little hint you can certainly serve your homemade iced tea in your favorite pitcher, but I like to pour and store single servings into mason jars.

I just fill them three quarters of the way up , add a slice of lemon, close them with a lid, and put them in the fridge.

When someone is thirsty, they open the jar, add some ice and they are good to go.

      Strain Dilute And Chill

Remove the tea bags or strain out the loose-leaf tea. If youre adding sweetener, stir it into the hot tea before diluting the concentrated tea mixture with the remaining water. Refrigerate until chilled.

Editors tip: If you dont want to fuss with temperatures, Instant Pot iced tea is a good shortcut route to take. Simply add tea bags to the Instant Pot, fill with water and pressure cook on high for four minutes. Remove the tea bags and enjoy.

The Best Tea To Use For Peach Iced Tea

I use either Lipton tea or loose white tea. Ive tried generic brands of tea, but they just dont compare to Lipton in my opinion. You can use your favorite brand of black tea though.

Im not a huge fan of green tea I prefer white tea. White tea has a more delicate flavor. You can certainly use green tea if you like it.

If you do use white tea or green tea, its important that you let the water cool. If you add green tea or white tea to boiling water, it will make it bitter.

      How To Store Iced Tea

Its best to store iced tea a glass or stainless-steel container instead of a plastic container. Keep it in the refrigerator at all times, covered tightly with a lid to prevent the tea from oxidizing and absorbing off-flavors. If youve added a sweetener to the iced tea, the CDC recommends drinking it within eight hours to prevent fermentation or bacterial contamination. Unsweetened tea is technically okay to drink for three to four days, although it will start to lose its flavor after the first 24 hours.

Hot Brew And Chill Iced Tea

How to Make the Perfect Long Island Iced Tea

The hot brewing method is the preferred way to make iced tea. It produces a bold iced tea, takes a few minutes to brew, and is ready to drink within the hour.

With this method, the trick is to brew a strong tea base with a small portion of hot water, let it cool a bit, then dilute it to taste with cold water. If you chill the tea too fast , it releases more astringent tannins that turn the tea cloudy and produce a more bitter-dry taste.

    • To brew one quart of iced tea, heat two cups of water to 200 to 212 degrees Fahrenheit for black tea.

    • Add four tea bags , and steep for three to five minutes.

    • Remove the tea bags or infuser, and let the tea cool at room temperature for about five minutes.

    • Add two cups of cold water and refrigerate or add ice and serve right away. You can add more cold water to soften the tea to your desired strength. When switching to other types of tea, use the recommended brewing times and temperatures for that tea.

Fill 1/3 of a half gallon jar with fresh peppermint leaves. If using dried peppermint, youll cut the amount in half.

      Start With Great Ingredients

“If you don’t start with high quality tea and high quality water like spring or filtered tap water, nothing else matters,” says Jesse Jacobs, Founder of Samovar Tea in San Francisco. Since tea isn’t much more than leaves steeped in hot water, those two basic ingredients should be superior to get great results.

Leave those commercial or supermarket brand tea bags at the store: their quality is unreliable, as they’re often produced from low grade, tiny, broken leaves known as dust.””Tea that is massed produced like those tea bags is going to be flatter and less complex,” says Jesse. Instead, seek out a quality brand or go for the triangular or pyramid-shaped bags, which contain larger leaves.

Or reach for loose tea. Jesse believes that “its consistent size results in a balanced, even brew.””Loose tea will give you more a full bodied, complex tea,” says Emeric Harney, General Manager of Harney & Sons SoHo in New York City. Alternately, tea bags, which generally contain smaller leaves, “give you something that infuses really quickly so it’s a bit bolder and more intense. The choice depends not only on convenience but on what you are going for in terms of flavor.”
