Believe it or not, the first time I tried chai latte was not at Starbucks but at the Bouchon Bakery where I worked for a while. A coworker, now friend made it for me to try and right away fell in love with it!
Since I was still in college then, I started grabbing one of my favorite drinks from Starbucks because it was easily accessible right on campus.
Thinking about the amount of money I spent there during that period makes me nauseous though!! I was already a broke college student and my Chai tea latte Starbucks addiction didnt help.

Heres How Starbucks Makes A Grande Iced Chai Latte
There are only three ingredients in a Starbucks iced chai latte:
Directions for a grande iced chai latte
- Add 4 pumps of chai concentrate directly into the cup
- Add milk up to the third black line cup marking
- Fill the cup with ice and give it a swirl to mix
Now, take a careful look at the photo below.
Notice that the four pumps of concentrate comes up to the first clear line on the cup.
I did a little experiment to see how much liquid it takes to get to that line and itâs â cup.
Next, Starbucks baristas add milk up to the third black line on the cold cup. To get from the clear line to the third black line takes an additional 1 cup of liquid.
Finally, fill the remaining space with ice. A quick swirl of the cup mixes the ingredients together nicely.

Starbucks continues to reinvent its Iced Matcha Tea Latte and in 2022 the Strawberry Dream Pure Matcha Latte was introduced to the world. How Starbucks Makes Iced Chai Latte
There are 3 ingredients in a Starbucks Iced Chai Latte:

Now, if you try to copy this, with most chai concentrates youll get a very weak iced chai latte. Starbucks chai concentrate is not for sale, and most concentrates ask for a 1:1 concentrate to milk ratio.
Dont try to copy the proportions above with 1:1 store-bought or this homemade chai concentrate.
Starbucks also uses triple filtered water for theirs, but I doubt everyone can triple filter their water . If you can, use filtered water for making ice.
Dont have a filter? Boil the water for 5 minutes and wait for it to cool, or leave a jar with water sitting in the counter overnight. That gets rid of the chlorine and makes a better-tasting ice.

This iced chai recipe, while not exact, is quite similar to the Starbucks drink *ahem*. Since the Starbucks chai tea concentrate is not for sale, we are forced to seek other options.
The cheapest and easiest way to make this drink is to use Tazo chai tea bags to create my own simple concentrate at home.
Option 2, is using the Tazo chai tea concentrate. Simple and perfect taste.
The third option is to create your own chai spice blend and then create a tea concentrate from that.

A popular offering during the hot summer months, the Iced Passion Tango Tea Lemonade is one of the most low-calorie options at Starbucks, with just 50 calories for a Grande. Starbucks describes it in mouth-watering terms: “Our blend of hibiscus, lemongrass and apple hand-shaken with ice, lemonade and, of course, passion.” If you’re looking for a zero-calorie option, there’s always its sister drink, Iced Passion Tango Tea.
