How To Make Iced Cold Brewed Matcha Step

Start with a glass filled with ice. I like these smaller cubed ones usingthis ice cube tray.

Next, pour 3/4 cup cold water. If you have filtered water, that would be best to really bring out the matcha flavor.

Ok, heres the workout portion of this recipe.

Into a cocktail shaker, add cold water followed by a teaspoon of matcha.

Shake, shake, shake. Shake, shake, shake vigorously for about 10-20 seconds.

Into the glass of ice water, pour in the cold matcha tea.

Its so fun to watch the matcha green swirling around. Make this for your guests at your next get-together and theyll be wowed. Its mesmerizing.

Give it a little swirl to make sure the matcha is well incorporated into the cold water and sip away!

How To Avoid Matcha Clumps

One of the biggest issues when dealing with matcha is making sure that you dont get clumps on the powder in your drink. The best way to avoid this is to first dilute the powder into a little liquid to form a paste and mix that with the rest of the milk. However, you then still need to mix that together- so there are a few methods of going about this.

In a blender 10-15 seconds is all you need in a blender. Add the milk to the blender first then the matcha paste and blend.

You could also use a blender bottle , a cocktail shaker, a frother whisk, mason jar or any air tight jar , or even a bamboo whisk .

Top Tip: use a little hot milk or water to first dissolve the powder and then youll have to issue with clumps!

I didnt understand about it up until, like, 2 months earlier. Everything began with a fascination with a regional tea bar in St. Paul, where I d purchase this thing called a Royal Tea Latte and due to the fact that the Royal needed to brew for a couple of minutes, I d sit there and see all the other tea individuals buying and browsing the scary-exciting menu of a tea bar.

Whichs when I recognized: whoa, matcha.

Quality And Buying Guide

There are 2 major matcha quality differences, premium and cooking grade.

Premium grade is used for the tea ceremony in temples and tea houses.

Cooking grade matcha is better used in foods but it can be an option for tea preparation too if you don’t have a choice.

The quality is reflected in the price.

Cheaper Matcha can cost about 10 USD/ 10 EUR for 1 ounce/30 grams.

More expensive matcha can cost about 65 USD/ 60 EUR for 1 ounce/30 grams.

The brighter green the color of your matcha powder the better it is! This is an important buying aspect.

The finer is has been ground the better, also the way it was ground makes a difference. Stone-ground is always preferred but hard to get and pricey.

Organic matcha powder is another thing you can look out for when buying matcha powder.

Always buy matcha powder and not teabags.

Good matcha powder is so fine that it dissolves in the liquids and to activate the properties it needs to be shaken well and you can hardly do that with tea bags. Besides, it’s hard to see what they pack in those tea bags.

A good quality test is to shake the tea powder in water, if there is lots of foam it’s a good sign that this is a decent grade of matcha powder.

Here are some decent matcha powder options:

Turning Matcha Into A Latte

Mixing matcha tea with milk is not very traditional and most likely NOT a very ceremonial drink…but it tastes awfully good!

As I mentioned, this drink is super easy to make. All you need is some matcha tea powder, water, milk …and don’t forget the ice! As for a tool to make it, pull out a well-sealing jar or cocktail shaker. That’s it!

Making the matcha tea component to this drink is as simple as combining water and the matcha tea to a jar, putting the lid on securely, and shaking vigorously for a few minutes! And when I say vigorously, I mean it! Shaking it will dissolve the tea powder, add some volume and thickness to the tea, and also create a lovely foam that you definitely want for the cool layered effect.

From there, all you need to do is place ice cubes in your drinking glasses, add the milk, and gently pour in the matcha tea. And just like that, you’ve got a beautiful refreshing beverage, ready to be enjoyed!

An Important Note About Sweeteners When Making Iced Matcha Lattes

When making cold drinks, it is important to be aware of whether your sweetener will easily dissolve. For example, regular refined sugar crystals do not dissolve well in cold mediums. For this reason, many people use liquid-based sweeteners such as simple syrup, honey or maple syrup. Our personal favourite is powdered brown sugar. It dissolves easily even in cold water, has brilliant caramel notes and theres no need to mix it with water beforehand.

Its a healthy alternative to coffee or other high caffeine drinks. It is earthy in flavor. Sweetened and served over ice, its a refreshing summer drink!

The Starbucks matcha latte recipe has been on the menu for quite some time. Maybe youve enjoyed it yourself, or seen people walk out of Starbucks with an interesting bright green drink, and wondered what it was they were drinking.

With your matcha powder ready to go, its now time to fill your matcha bowl with 2 oz of warm water from a kettle and use a traditional bamboo whisk to whisk your matcha into a smooth, clump-free paste.

Water temperature is one of the most important variables in steeping a consistently fresh-tasting cup of iced matcha.Keep it to a warm 75-85°C so as to not burn your matcha powder and give it a bitter taste. Cooler water temp also means your matcha will froth up to that eye-catching jade colour.

Dont have a thermometer?Let your boiled kettle sit for 7-10 minutes before using.

Iced Matcha Latte Recipe: How To Get Started

One of the biggest things to keep in mind, especially when making an ice matcha latte, is that youll have to be careful of clumps. Matcha clumps up naturally because of the static electricity and the super fine particle size.

Its an honest indicator of high quality, albeit not the only one. This effect is most prominent in an iced latte as the cold temperature keeps the powder from dissolving as well as hot water might.

Of course the clumps wont hurt you, its just not the preferred texture per se. Instead you can be sure to achieve a uniform matcha powder without clumps by choosing to sift your powder before preparing the iced matcha latte.

Its also worth double checking that youve selected a high quality latte matcha, such as our Barista Matcha options, specially crafted in Uji, Japan for daily drinking and lattes of all types.

    • You can also step it up a notch with super premium Ceremonial GradeMatcha, but is not required.
    • Choosing an authentic source and highest quality of matcha you can afford will ensure your iced matcha latte is the very best it can be.

Savory, sweet and all, without that bitterness from low-quality matcha hidden under the sweetener at your local chain cafe.
