How To Make Green Tea Ice Cream With Vanilla Ice Cream

To make green tea ice cream with vanilla ice cream, you will need: 1 cup whole milk, 1/2 cup heavy cream, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, 3 tablespoons matcha powder, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and 1/2 cup vanilla ice cream. In a medium saucepan, whisk together the milk, cream, sugar, and matcha powder. Place the pan over medium heat and cook, stirring frequently, until the mixture comes to a boil. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Place the vanilla ice cream in a large bowl. Pour the green tea mixture over the ice cream and stir until combined. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and place it in the freezer for at least 2 hours, or until the ice cream is firm.

Ceremonial grade matcha that you see on supermarket shelves outside Japan may be better quality or it may be just marketing to justify a higher price.

When I choose matcha, I look for organic and make my judgement based on taste.

For this recipe, I recommend buying decent quality matcha or what you can afford.

What Does Matcha Green Tea Ice Cream Taste Like

Matcha powder has earthy and slightly bitter tones and really blossoms when we add it to a creamy sweet base like in this recipe.

The blueberries add a sweetness of their own that pairs well with the flavor of matcha.

It is a âgrown-upâ flavor that may be too complex for picky eaters or someone looking for a more traditional flavor like vanilla or chocolate.

How To Make Vegan Matcha Ice Cream

Matcha Green Tea Ice Cream – Raw Vegan Recipe

As I said above, making vegan green tea ice cream is super easy to do! All you need is a few ingredients and an Ice Cream Maker!

I know you may not have an ice cream maker, but I promise it is worth getting because you can easily customize vegan ice cream recipes for different flavors and it is way cheaper than buying vegan ice cream from the store.

First you are going to combine arrowroot/cornstarch with 1/2 cup of non-dairy milk and whisk in a bowl until it is smooth. You will set this aside while you work on the rest.

This helps thicken the vegan matcha ice cream without changing the flavor!

Next, in a medium pan on the stove, combine non-dairy milk with the sugar and stir until it is dissolved.

I use granulated sugar, but you could also use maple syrup or agave, depending on your preferences!

Once the sugar or sweetener is dissolved and incorporated, remove the pan from the heat and stir in the arrowroot mixture.

Stir in the matcha powder and vanilla and chill the mixture in the fridge or freezer until it is cold. This usually takes 1-2 hours.

I like to put my mixture in the freezer to flash-freeze it in 30-60 minutes as the fridge often takes longer.

Once the vegan matcha ice cream mixture is chilled, freeze it in the ice cream maker according to the manufacturers instructions. This is the exact ice cream maker that I use!

All vegan ice cream is plant-based, from the milk base to soy milk and even almond milk. It is possible to get eggs in vegan ice cream, but the majority of them do not.   • Honey- is my sweetener of choice. I use local honey. To make this 100% vegan, try your maple syrup or your favorite sweetener that doesnt come from bees.
  • Matcha I used good quality matcha but not the most expensive. You can adjust the. amount according to your preference. I also like to mix it with honey to make a matcha syrup to drizzle on top.
  • After doing some research, I realized that making vegan ice cream the first time isnt easy.

    Even the pros at Ben and Jerry’s and Häagen-Dazs say it was challenging to replicate the ice-creamy magic of real dairy with plant-based fats and proteins.

    In case you didnt know, matcha is kind of expensive, so just a warning so you know what you are getting into! That being said, it lasts a long time which is good.

    That is okay though, you will want good quality matcha in order to make this vegan matcha ice cream healthy and delicious.

    When choosing your matcha powder, you want to make sure that you are buying culinary-grade powder and not the kind meant for other uses.

    You may be able to find matcha at your local grocery store and certainly at your local health food store. If you have an Asian market nearby, you can find good quality matcha there too.

    My local Walmart Supercenter actually carries some pretty decent matcha so you may want to look at yours!

    If you cant find any locally, you can easily order it online! Two brands I love are Organic Jade Leaf Matcha Powder and Kiss Me Organics Matcha Green Tea Powder.
