Today I’m talking about one of my favorite herbs, red raspberry leaf tea and how I used it to prep for labor.

This is my personal success story of using red raspberry leaf tea for a good birth.

Don’t get me wrong, I can go on and on about the many great benefits of raspberry leaf tea.

After all its the go-to herb for matters concerning the uterus.

But could it really help decrease the amount of time laboring?

Here I’ll dive into the research I found and my personal experience with the labor day tea.

When I became pregnant for the first time, I did what most New Mom-to-Be’s do and researched like crazy.

I was determined to have a natural labor, and since this is somewhat terrifying the first time, I was willing to do anything to help ease the process and aid in a fast labor.

I love tea, so when I read about red raspberry leaf it sounded perfect for my needs.

Red raspberry leaf helps to support the uterus by strengthening and toning it. This means stronger, better contractions.

It’s also supposed to help tone the pelvic muscles that are used during labor. For those moms looking to have a VBAC it’s supposed to help them heal and strengthen their womb.

May Be Especially Beneficial For Women

Red raspberry leaf tea is especially popular due to its possible benefits for pregnant women. However, it seems to help women in general.

In fact, its often referred to as the womans herb.

Some research supports the anecdotal evidence of women saying that the leaves help relieve premenstrual symptoms , such as cramping, vomiting, nausea and diarrhea .

Red raspberry leaves contain fragarine, a plant compound that helps tone and tighten muscles in the pelvic area, which may reduce the menstrual cramping caused by the spasms of these muscles .

While there is currently no specific recommendation on the quantity to drink, sipping on some red raspberry leaf tea may relieve some of the discomforts of your menstrual cycle.

Whats more, one ounce of red raspberry leaves pack 3.3 mg of iron, which is 18% of the recommended daily intake for women aged 1950. Getting enough iron can combat the anemia often experienced by women with heavy menstrual cycles .

How To Make Raspberry Leaf Tea:

1. Pick fresh leaves, I go for the bright green ones near the tips. They are prickly so be careful, you might want to wear gloves and dont try it at night like I did.

2. Wash them and dry in a salad spinner or roll up in a dish towel or paper towels. If you plan on using them fresh thats it, if not read on

3. Dry on the herb setting in a dehydrator. Depending on the dehydrator and how many leaves youre using it might take 8 hours or 2 days.

OR hang up in a warm dry place. Summers in the north east are pretty humid so its not a great method here, things tend to get moldy. OR dry on low in your oven, houses are hot enough in the summer so this would a last resort here.

4. Once the leaves are crisp store them in an air tight container. A mason jar with a plastic screw on lid works great. You dont have to break them up, its easier to just grab two leaves than scoop out crumbles.

Brew Tips: Herbal teas are usually brewed at higher temps and longer than tea-leaf teas so they are probably your best bet if you want to get the most out of your raspberry leaves. Like I said before I thought it was pretty good with a few mint leaves and some honey.

If you want to mix it with regular tea Id go with a black tea, it can take a higher heat than green tea. I drink loose leaf black tea that I make in a mini french press. I add the tea, drop in a few leaves and add the water. Honestly it doesnt taste any different than usual.
