Why Make Moringa Tea

First of all, its incredibly nutritious and has been used as food for thousands of years. But it also has been recently studied as an anti-cancer agent. Let me be clear here, I dont think that drinking moringa tea is going to cure cancer. However, I do believe that giving your body nutrient rich foods can help reduce the risks of getting cancer. So, we do what can.

Since we grow moringa its a logical choice for a base for our tea. When cooked, moringa tastes similar to spinach but as a tea it doesnt really have a flavor. So I like to add flavors to it. Some of my favorites are lemon zest , mint, lemon balm, lavender, chamomile and vanilla bean. Most of these are herbs I grow so that is what I use.

I really like to use this mesh strainer but some of my family likes to use the tea balls instead. Either one will work just fine.

I put about 1 tbsp of morninga and 1 tsp of flavorings in the strainer. I just mix and match depending on what were in the mood for. Then pour hot water over it and put a saucer over the cup. This will help keep all the volatile compounds in the tea and not evaporating with the the steam. Let steep for 10 minutes.

Remove the insert or tea ball. I like to squeeze out the last of the water from the plant matter. Then we add honey and enjoy.

In Asia and Africa, the moringa tree is often called “the tree of life” or “the miracle tree”. That’s because the nutritional content and hardiness of the drought-resistant tree make it a great candidate as a staple food in the most impoverished regions. The plant can be used to feed livestock and may even be used for water purification in certain instances .

For many poor countries, civilians suffer from a lack of nutrition. This may be due to a host of factors including war, lack of clean water, poor cultivating soils, and little access to nutritious foods. Moringa leaves are packed with essential vitamins and minerals that may help combat hunger and enable undernourished individuals to increase their body weight.

In addition, cultivating moringa trees can help create new jobs. The tree grows so quickly, it can be harvested every month. The trees are so hardy, they do not need to be fertilized, further making the cultivation of this crop attractive in impoverished nations .

It’s important to note that some moringa products such as moringa oleifera leaf extract and moringa leaf powder are less potent than the raw or cooked leaves. To combat malnutrition, the leaves are generally consumed raw or cooked and served similarly to cooked spinach.

Dandelion is viewed by many to be a mere weed, but it is a perfectly edible plant with a ton of health benefits for those who are willing to overlook the social reputation it has garnered. Moringa leaves are a good option to mix into a salad if you have them, and if not, using some moringa juice as part of the base for a salad dressing is a great way to use it.
