How Long Does The Mix Last
The keto chai latte mix will actually last several months if you keep it airtight. A mason jar is a fantastic storage option for keeping the mix airtight, but any sealed container would work. You should store it in a cool, dry spot in your home, away from any sources of heat. It shouldn’t be near the stove, oven, sunlight, or near the dishwasher.
Any kind of moisture will cause the mix to go bad very quickly. So keeping it dry is essential if you want to have it on hand.

Sugar Free Syrups Have Carbs
Just because its sugar-free syrup doesnt mean its carb-free too. Each pump of sugar free syrup contains around 1 net carb, and contains an artificial sweetener called sucralose. Some people avoid artificial sweeteners at all costs. Im fine with treating myself every once in a while to a ketogenic starbucks that uses a small amount.
Its important to specify the amount of pumps you want in each drink you order. The typical grande gets four syrup pumps, so youll probably want to ask for one or two instead of leaving it up to your barista.

Why I Think This Chai Latte Recipe Is Better Than The Starbucks Low Carb Version
Surprised? Yes, coffee giant Starbucks offers a keto-friendly chai tea latte. Its not shown on the menu though, so youd need some assistance from your barista if you want none of the sugar.
According to mrskinnypants, a small Starbucks chai tea latte contains 22 carbs, which as we all know is way too high for anyone on keto .
Converting a Starbucks chai latte to a low carb option involves asking your barista to do the following:
- Ask them to use their brewed chai tea bags instead of high carb chai concentrate thats loaded with sugar and honey
- Add some heavy whipping cream
- Add sugar-free cinnamon dolce syrup
Knowing this information, what you can then do to replicate the java giants chai latte flavor is to replace the coconut cream used in this recipe with some heavy whipping cream. HWC is perfectly fine as its keto-friendly, but take note it does have higher fat and calorie content than coconut cream.
As for the sugar-free cinnamon dolce syrup, I wouldnt recommend buying an expensive bottle in Starbucks. The label does say the syrup contains a trivial amount of sugar of around 28mg per 30ml serving, which isnt really all that much. But if youre doing clean keto, then its best to just stick to our healthy recipe! Plus, in my opinion, our cinnamon and nutmeg spice combo tastes much better than any cinnamon-flavored syrup, Starbucks or otherwise!
Add Some Dairy Or Non
Starbucks traditionally has a wealth of dairy and non-dairy options. These include skim milk, whole milk, coconut milk, soy milk and almond milk.
If youre on keto, skim and whole milk are definitely not going to work for you because they contain significant amount of carbs in them. So if you want to make your drink keto-friendly, add these instead:
- Unsweetened coconut milk
Sweetleaf Liquid Stevia Drops
These flavored drops can then be added to sparkling water or club soda to create flavored sodas. Also, by adding certain flavors to still water, you can get subtle hints of flavor to liven up your plain water.

My favorite drink is some iced green tea with a few drops of the SweetLeaf Stevia. The flavors blend perfectly and it is the ultimate refreshing drink.
We have found the best use for these is cold drinks since you dont have to worry about other granular sweeteners not dissolving completely.
Birch Tree Xylitol from Health Garden is our favorite xylitol. Its also a 1:1 sugar substitute without any aftertaste, like Swerve.
Note that xylitol can also be derived from corn, which is actually why we dont recommend our usual favorite NOW Foods brand, even though they do sell xylitol.

Well again give the warning here that xylitol is a sugar alcohol, so tread lightly if you have any sensitivities. Strangely enough, xylitol is also very good for teeth, so you have even more reason to use it!

This is one of the classic coffee drinks, and here weve given it a ketogenic twist. This has all of the yum and none of the crazy sugars or carbs:
- Order an Americano, but with only ¾ water instead of all the way full.
- Ask for the last ¼ to be filled with a large splash of heavy cream, steamed. This gives you the creamy latte feel.
- Finally, ask for two pumps of sugar-free cinnamon dolce syrup.

Some of these spices are pricey and I don’t use them very often which is why I buy whole spices instead of ground. You can just grind them as needed. They can last years and years that way. To be honest, I think my cardamon is about 5 years old and was still fragrant and spicy when freshly ground.

Skip The Milk And Watch The Half
The default milk added to espresso drinks and tea lattes is 2% milk. This tacks on between 10-12g of net carbs thanks to the sugar found in milk. Nonfat milk which is typically used in skinny Starbucks drinks is no better at 9 to 24g of net carbs per drink, despite being fewer calories. Even whole milk can contain up to 13 grams of carbs, depending on what you order.
To cut the carbs, switch to half-and-half . Half-and-half contains about 1g of net carbs per tablespoon, which translates to almost 10g of net carbs per 8 oz. .
Instead of ordering lattes with whole milk or half-and-half, your best bet is heavy cream. Its high in calories, so factor that into your diet, but heavy cream is pure fat with no carbs. Itll also make your drink deliciously rich. If you want it to be slightly less creamy, you can ask your barista to do half heavy cream and half water.
Pro tip: All milk and cream additions under 4 oz. are free, and steaming milk or cream doesnt cost extra either.
