How To Practice For The Teas Test

How do you make the most of your TEAS nursing practice test assessment? Great question! Here are some tips I advise all my students that use my ATI TEAS online practice assessments:

  • Use your first practice ATI TEAS test to help you identify where to review first
  • After you take a practice test, write down 3 areas for each section where you can focus next.
  • Use TEAS exam study questions for each section. Its great to do sets of TEAS exam study questions that only focus on one or two areas of the exam. This helps you check your understanding on important concepts for each section.
  • After youve taken a few TEAS section practice tests and spent time learning and reviewing, take another full practice test.
  • Between practice test sessions, learn and focus on specific sections of the exam.

ATI TEAS test online practice assessments are great to help you mentally prepare for switching from topic-to-topic and for building your endurance for a several hour exam.

One of the best ways to boost your score, however, is to quiz yourself with about 10 TEAS exam study questions at a time. This strategy lets you focus on learning and recall, and its a great way to prep using TEAS test practice online assessments.

When To Take A Teas Practice Test

There is some strategy involved for when to use practice tests to study for the TEAS exam.

Youll want to spread your practice tests out a little and use them at just the right times to first create a baseline for yourself, and then to measure your progress and improvement as you continue to study. The first thing you should do when you begin to prepare for the TEAS is to take a diagnostic practice test.

Once you diagnose yourself and find the issues, you can start to fix those issues. It gives you a baseline for knowing where youre starting from and how well you would do on the test if you had to take it today.

After taking time to review your weak areas you can begin to think about retaking a practice test.

Try to space out your practice tests to maybe once per week depending on how much time you have, but you dont want to take 2-3 practice tests within a 2-3 day period.

For this reason you will ideally have a practice test bank like the one that is included in the Smart Edition Academy online course.

The practice test bank is a set of 20-30 questions just on one specific topic like the cardiovascular system.

For instance, you can drill down on just that topic and work through those practice questions without having to sit through a whole science section timed practice test.

With each practice test attempt you should start to see a higher score and start to see those specific weak areas improve.

Simulate The Testing Experience

At over three hours long, the TEAS 7 is a prolonged testing experience, and all of it is taken in one sitting with only short breaks allowed. During your preparatory period leading up to the date of the exam, its always a great idea to simulate the testing experience, including timing yourself on each section and completing an entire practice exam in one sitting. This will give you an idea of how much time the questions generally take you to answer so that you can gauge how much time to allow for each question when taking the actual test.

Use Teas Prep Resources

ATI TEAS Test Science Question #2

This ATI TEAS Test question asks about the function of one of the body’s systems. We recommend making sure you are familiar with all the functions of the different body systems. Another important tip is to understand how these functions affect other factors in the body, as the questions might also ask about an indirect effect of a body system.

Which of the following is not carried out by the respiratory system?

Gas exchange

Answer & Explanation |

The correct answer is . The respiratory system is responsible for gas exchange . The CO2 concentration, in turn effect the blood pH. The respiratory system includes a conducting zone which filters the incoming air .The disposal of toxins takes place in the liver, where the toxic compounds are broken up or modified, in order to be removed from the body.

The science section of the TEAS test contains 50 questions, to be completed in 63 minutes. It is comprised of four topics topics: Human Anatomy & Physiology, Biology, Chemistry and Scientific Reasoning. Test Environment And Timing

As weve said taking a ATI TEAS practice test is about simulating the real test and its also important to simulate the actual test environment you will be in on test day.

You want to be at a table or desk and sitting in a chair just like you would for the test.

Its tempting to have music playing or the tv in the background and do it from your bed or a coffee shop or the places you usually study.

You might be comfortable with the normal chaos in your house, but try to simulate that quiet environment you will experience on your test day.

Dress like you would dress on test day, eat the same breakfast as test day, and if your test is already scheduled for a day and time, take the practice test on the same day and the same time as what youre scheduled for.

You get the idea, you want to sort of have a routine for that test day and you want to simulate that routine each time you take the test.

Your goal here is to control yourself and everything in your environment to be as close to the real test experience as possible.

Your practice test is an opportunity for you to learn and identify several things.

We already talked about taking notes on where you got tripped up in relation to the time constraints, but you also want to learn about your strengths and weaknesses so you can pinpoint the areas that if improved will raise your score the fastest.

Any good practice test will provide you with a scored report, the report below is from the Smart Edition Academy ATI TEAS practice test.

ATI TEAS Practice Test Reading Question #1

This sample question is a typical TEAS test question that tests your ability to place a sentence within a sequence of events. Here is a tip: look for specific words that refer to time.

Which of the following sentences indicates the end of a sequence?

finally! She exclaimed as she saw Jim’s car pull up in the driveway. When you come to think of it, in the end it’s all about trust. The last thing I wanted at that moment was to exercise.Last of all, mix together all the ingredients.

Answer & Explanation |

Answer is correct. “Last of all” is a phrase that marks the last action in a sequence. Answer is incorrect because the word “finally!” is used here to express relief that something has happened after a long wait. It does not necessarily mark the last item in a sequence. Answer is incorrect because the phrase “in the end” as it is used in the sentence means “ultimately” or “in the long run.” Answer is incorrect because the phrase “the last thing I wanted” as it is used in the sentence means “I did not want.”

Here are two tips for dealing with the TEAS test reading section:

  • Read! Reading is a great way to improve your vocabulary and reading speed. You will find yourself spending less time on reading the texts in the test and more time on actually answering the questions.
  • Treat the texts in the exam as real when answering the questions, and do not let your prior knowledge interfere.

Integration Of Knowledge & Ideas

The last fifteen questions ask examinees to use their understanding and knowledge to interpret new information. Here, questions deal with predictions, comparisons and contrasts, evaluating arguments, and integrating data from multiple sources.

When presented with multiple patients with multiple symptoms, nurses often need to be able to compare and contrast with past and present data, as well as make predictions regarding what treatments will best work in each persons situation. Comprehension of written information can make the difference between life and death, and the TEAS test assures schools that you will be able to handle it.
