How To Make A Tea Towel
Before you cut your fabric for your tea towels, prewash your fabric and iron it. You will want your fabric smooth and wrinkle-free when you measure and cut.
Using the dimensions of your fabric, work out the best size for your tea towels so that you can get the most towels out of your fabric.
An average tea towel is around 16 x 28 and it can vary. So whatever size works best for you will be fine. If you want your tea towels to be smaller, such as decorative finger towels, you can make your towel around 11 x1 8. But just remember that your design space on a finger towel will be considerably smaller.
On each side of your fabric rectangle, fold over about 3/8 and iron in place. Start with the two long edges and then fold the short edges.
Next, fold over each side once more, about 1/2 or 5/8 this time, to enclose the fabrics raw edge, ironing and pinning in place as you work around all four sides of the rectangle.
Again, you can start folding with the two long edges and then fold the short edges.
If you would like to easily hang up your towel, you can add a small piece of twill tape or grosgrain ribbon to one corner of your towel.
Simply tuck the ends of a 4 or 4 1/2 inch piece of twill tape or ribbon under the hem of one corner, placed diagonally. Pin in place.

Three Print Your Artwork On A Laser Printer
To use Rustoleum Photo Transfer, you need to print your artwork on a LASER PRINTER or standard printer paper.
The photo transfer will not work with an inkjet printer and it will not work with photo paper.
We do not have a color laser printer, so we use the self-service printer at the local Staples.
If you do not want to go to a Staples in person due to quarantine, you can order your laser prints online.
Since our Staples is next to our grocery store, I wore my mask and made my copies when I was out for my grocery run.

Cut Your Lemon In Half
I recommend using a larger chefs knife for this, since you want a clean, even cut. Be sure to cut it on the equator. Im using a lemon in this tutorial, but you could also use a lime, orange, grapefruit, pomelo, etc. Its helpful to use a piece of citrus fruit that has a relatively thick peel, since it will hold up better.
Printed Tea Towels & Napkins
Here at Countryside Art we do not consider the tea towel to be a humble product in any way at all. We pour our heart and soul into making each printed tea towel we produce a beautiful item to cherish.
We cannot believe how many tea towels we sell every year. Even in the age of the dishwasher, and the fact we spend less time than ever in the kitchen preparing food, the tea towel continues to be an incredibly popular item.
In our opinion the tea towels enduring appeal is down to the fact it is so much more than just a piece of fabric used for drying dishes. A printed tea towel can be a work of art, advertise a message, or remind us of a lovely holiday or event. By our choice of design we also say something about ourselves in what we want to display in our home.
A selection of eye-catching printed tea towelscan be used to offer a delightfully colourful distraction from a mundane household chore or instantly brighten up any space.
William Morris, leader of the 19th Century Arts & Crafts Movement said Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful. We know our customers share this belief and it is the foundation on which we base the ethos of our company.
So as well as producing superb prints on top quality fabrics, we can add lots of lovely bespoke touches when we sew your tea towels, making them special not only for you but also your customers.

Make Your Own Diy Tea Towels To Use Or Give As A Gift They Have So Many Wonderful Uses In The Kitchen
I have been slightly obsessed with the apple and pear print I designed for the . Everyday I see it on my phone and computer it makes me smile.
So much so that I wanted to find ways to use it again and again. I started with using the design on the . And then immediately wanted more.
With Thanksgiving on the horizon and already spending more time in the kitchen, I knew the design would be perfect for some DIY tea towels. Once I had the idea, I immediately uploaded a design to Spoonflower to print.
This post may contain affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
Then I had the longest week ever waiting for my custom printed tea towels to arrive.
Thankfully Spoonflower was much quicker than originally quoted. As soon as the fabric arrived, I put off everything else on my to-do list to sew up my DIY tea towels because the pattern and colors and design were so fantastic!
Is it silly to say I am in love with my new tea towels?
I made 4 different designs from the apple and pear print to give me some variety. I love that they all go together in a set, but they are each fun and different in their own way.
And even better, the 4 custom printed tea towels on high-quality cotton/linen fabric cost me less than $30.
When compared to other high-end towels, that is a huge savings.
DIY tea towels are so much fun to make and they make wonderful handmade gifts. Or even better, you can wrap homemade treats in an individual tea towel for an extra special gift.
What Size Are Your Digitally Printed Tea Towels
We can create whatever size tea towels you would like, but our standard tea towels have a finished size of approximately 68cm x 45cm.
We start out with tea towel panels that are 2cm larger than this on each edge, so 72x49cm, with background only in this final 2cm on each edge, to ensure that none of the important parts of your design ends up being lost in the hem.

How To Sew A Tea Towel
Step 1: Give your fabric a good ironing to make sure it is nice and flat.
Step 2: Fold over 1/4-3/8 hem on each edge of the tea towel. Iron it to stay. I love using a seam gauge to make quick work of hems. Then roll over the hem 1 more time to fully enclose the edge of the fabric. Iron again and pin to keep the hem enclosed while sewing.
Step 3: Cut a 4-5 piece of the grosgrain ribbon and tuck it under the hem in one corner, on a diagonal.
Step 4: Sew the hem with a standard straight stitch. Keep the stitch line close to the inside edge of the hem.
Step 5: Wash your hand towels before use to soften them up and get them ready for the kitchen!
