Three Ways To Make Bubble Tea

HOW TO MAKE STRAWBERRY MILK TEA USING FLAVOURED SYRUP: ICED AND FRAPPE for 16 OZ CUPS

Happy June everyone! It’s officially summer which for me means bubble tea season. Who am I kidding? It’s bubble tea season for me all year round. However, my consumption of this stuff probably triples during the summer. Some would say it is a bit of an addiction… but I say it is a way of life. Long story short, I am super excited to share this easy bubble tea recipe with you today!

And for even more excitement, I am sharing three different ways to make bubble tea:

  • Plain Bubble Tea
  • Milk Bubble Tea
  • Fruity Bubble Tea
  • So why make bubble tea at home? For starters, it is super easy. Second, it is healthy! Especially for the fruity milk teas. Just think, real fruit vs. fruit syrup. It’s really a no brainer. Third, it is much cheaper than paying someone to mix a couple ingredients together. And lastly, the comfort of whipping up a batch of this from your own home means you can relax at home and soak in the sun on your balcony without stepping a foot out of your house or into your car.

Why Is The Boba In My Tea Hard

The boba in your tea may be hard for a few reasons including:1. The boba was not cooked long enough2. After cooking, the boba pearls may have been left out of water for a long timeIf you run into an issue where your tapioca pearls become hard, you can rehydrate them buy reheating the pearls in hot water. You could do this in a pot over a stove top, or you could reheat the boba pearls in a bowl in the microwave. Ensure the boba pearls are completely submerged in the water while re-heating.

I hope you make and enjoy this strawberry milk tea recipe. Let me know in the comments section if you do so. If you enjoyed this recipe, you will also enjoy this easy Guava White Tea Lemonade recipe.

    Can Boba Be Healthy

With any food or drink, the question of whether its healthy is so subjective. Personally, I enjoy drinking boba tea, and I give myself permission to drink it! No, its not hydrating like water, and it isnt a rich source of nutrients like a breakfast smoothie might be. And yes, it tends to be higher in added sugars and starchy carbs . Overall, bubble tea has a place in my life because I enjoy it, though its not something that I typically enjoy every day. Only you can decide whats right for you when it comes to boba!

In my own relationship with food, Ive let go of labeling foods as good or bad because of the stress these labels create. All too often, we come to see ourselves as good or bad based on what we eat, leading to cycles of bingeing and restricting, or over-exercising trying to compensate. Plus, all of that stress about what were eating takes a toll on our bodies and minds. Strawberry milk tea or strawberry bubble tea is a wonderful treat for people who enjoy fresh fruit, milk, and optionally, tea. While it is usually offered when strawberries are in season, the use of powder and fruit juice extracts makes it possible to have it off-season.

Around the world, boba shops are aplenty in Asia, but the United States and Europe have also been seeing an uptrend.

A popular store in the US even founded National Bubble Tea Day to share their passion for this delectable drink. There has been an increase in boba franchises in the UK, especially in London, with some early entrants such as Chatime and Mooboo seeing continuous growth over the years.

Not only have the classic and tapioca pearl drinks gained popularity but variations such as the taro pudding and brown sugar boba drinks are trending as well. People who prefer refreshing drinks can opt for drinks with fruits as the main ingredients.

    Where Can I Find Boba

You can find many kinds of tapioca pearls online and at Asian markets. I purchase this double pack of black and rainbow boba.

Quick-cooking boba is the most convenient but be sure to make each batch fresh to be used within about 1 hour. After that time the chewy boba starts to harden.

If you have never had bubble tea the tapioca pearls are like a puffy, chewy gummy bear consistency and many people find them satisfying to suck up the traditional fat straw and chew while sipping their milk tea.

For this reason though I would suggest children under the age of 4 be supervised while consuming boba.

    How To Cook Tapioca Pearls

When you first bring the tapioca pearls out of the packaging, you will notice that the dry/uncooked tapioca pearls are hard in texture and look whitish. Tapioca pearls need to be hydrated

For the brand of tapioca pearls that I used, the best way to cook the tapioca was long and slow with a lot of water. For example, if you plan to make 2 glasses of bubble tea, you would need to simmer about 1/2 a cup of boba pearls in 2 cups of water for about 30 mins. Make sure the water is already simmering before you add the boba pearls.

Once the boba is done cooking, let it sit in the hot water for a few more minutes before straining the pearls into a bowl of cold water. You can add some white granulated sugar or brown sugar to the cold water if you want to sweeten the tapioca pearls.

    • Put boba in cold water
    • Add sugar in cooked boba

Cooked tapioca pearls look translucent, become chewy and take on the taste or flavor of the liquid in which they are submerged.

If you will be using a different brand, make sure to follow the manufacturers instruction for how to cook the pearls.

    How To Make Strawberry Milk

The recipe I have shared here is a classical Strawberry Milk popular in Asian countries like Korea and Japan. I have made it in whole milk but feel free to use your Non-diary milk like Almond Milk, Oat Milk, Cashew Milk, or similar others.

    Strawberry Milk

Following are the high-level instructions of this recipe but for detailed step-by-step instructions with photo and video, please check out the recipe card below.

    • Make Strawberry Syrup – In a pan with medium heat, add strawberries and brown sugar. Stir until the sugar completely dissolves
    • Cook for few minutes – Cook the strawberries for 5 to 7 minutes and mash the fruit until it turns pulpy. Then allow it to cook for 2 to 3 minutes
    • Consistency – Remove the syrup from heat, once it turns pulpy and sticky. And allow it to cool down completely
    • Serving – Now add the 3 to 5 tsp of Strawberry Syrup into a serving glass and pour in the cold milk. Mix well and now the sweet and delicious Strawberry Milk is ready for you to taste and enjoy

Note: I haven’t strained the pulp from the sugar syrup as my family loves those chunky bites in every sip. But if you want to strain it, then I recommend adding ¼ cup of water while making the syrup.

    How To Make Strawberry Syrup

As noted above, making your own strawberry simple syrup is one of the best ways to control the amount of sugar in your drink.

Making strawberry syrup is really easy. All you need are some strawberries, sugar and water which you simmer over medium heat until the strawberries soften and the liquid thickens slightly.

The standard ratio of sugar to water for a simple syrup is typically 1:1. Which means that for every part of sugar used you will need an equal part of water.

However, in this recipe I reduced the ratio of sugar to water. Instead of once cup of sugar, I used 3/4 cup of sugar. You could reduce the quantity of sugar further if you prefer.

    Is Strawberry Milk Tea Caffeinated

HOW TO MAKE STRAWBERRY MILK TEA ð? USING ELECTRIC FROTHER: 2 WAYS

Yes, but not a lot. There is caffeine in the tea, which is steeped in a smaller amount of water than usual to make a strong, concentrated tea. However there is much less caffeine overall than compared to a regular cup of coffee. If you want to make this drink completely caffeine-free, you can replace the tea with milk, and it will just be an extra milky strawberry bubble tea.

    • This recipe calls for a fine mesh strainer to strain out seeds and strawberry pieces from the strawberry syrup. If you dont own one, and can be found in the baking aisle at most grocery stores, or you can simply use a slotted spoon to remove strawberries. Youll just have some seeds and pulp at the bottom of your glass, which doesnt hurt anything.
    • This strawberry milk ends up a lovely pale pink, but if making for kids , feel free to add a couple drops of red food coloring for a more vibrant pink color. I used two drops for the milk you see in the photos.
    • You can make your strawberry milk with whatever milk you have in the fridge, but whole milk makes the richest, tastiest drink. If you have heavy cream or half and half on hand, you can also add a splash of that to the mix for a richer end product .

    What Is Strawberry Milk Tea

The main ingredients are as simple as they come just fresh strawberries, milk, and tea. You can customize the sweetness by adding your preferred sweetener such as sugar or honey.

In many boba shops, the strawberry milk drink offered there may not contain tea. This can sometimes lead to confusion especially when ordering in-store.

However, this also means that you can opt for the one without tea if you are looking to cut caffeine! The regular strawberry milk tea contains caffeine.

If you are looking for a version with tea, make sure you ask the shop staff if the drink contains it.
