Although tea drinking generally has very little to no side effects and may be very beneficial to health, you should still be cautious. First, brewed chai tea contains a lot of sugar. If you are making or drinking the traditional one, make sure to reduce the sugar or use an alternative sweetener. Even better, avoid sweeteners completely, and treat yourself to a sweetened tea only for special occasions. Next, spices may cause heartburn in some people. Chai is made with real milk, so if you are lactose intolerant, avoid cows milk and use alternatives. Milk, too, contains calories and sugars, so pay attention if you are trying to lose weight. And lastly, chai is made with black tea that contains caffeine. Strong black tea, especially broken Assam or Assam dust, is high in caffeine.

When You Drink Chai Tea Every Day You Might Boost Your Mood And Your Sex Drive

When you’re stressed out, nothing may sound better than a hot cup of tea. If stress is a daily occurrence, though, you may want to consider replacing your usual nightly brew with chai tea and don’t forget to add nutmeg! A study conducted by researchers in India found that nutmeg seed extract induced an “antidepressant-like effect” on mice. Interestingly, the nutmeg extract was able to zen the mice, but it didn’t have any kind of negative impact or “significant effect” on the animals’ movement.

In addition to potentially boosting your mood, the nutmeg and cloves in your cuppa may also boost your libido. One study in rats revealed that the spices “were found to stimulate the mounting behaviour of male mice, and also to significantly increase their mating performance.” So, uh, there’s that.

Naturally, what happens in mice may not be the same as what happens in humans. However, if you’re looking for a way to unwind, it couldn’t hurt to brew a pot of chai tea every day, now could it?

When To Drink Tea

You may have a nice cup of green tea in the morning and later in the evening. To obtain better results, drink a cup or two of green tea before the workout session. Avoid drinking green tea at night as its caffeine content stimulates a sense of alertness, making it difficult to fall asleep. That said, the same is valid for yellow tea, white tea, oolong tea, and black tea. Not to mention the toilet break that comes from drinking fluids before going to bed. Some people may drink green tea two hours before bedtime to avoid possible sleep disturbances. However, it may not be handy for everyone.

As for drinking tea in the morning, hold off drinking it on an empty stomach if you have a sensitive stomach. It is to prevent any gastrointestinal distress. A common practice in most Indian households is to kick start the morning with heavy milk tea. Be it tea or coffee, never start your day with caffeine. They create an imbalance between the acidic and alkaline levels of the stomach. It may keep you troubled throughout the day. Try to avoid drinking tea with meals if youre diagnosed with anaemia as it interferes with iron absorption.

Chai tea is typically consumed as a standard tea using loose black tea, spices, and hot water, but can also be brewed as a chai tea latte. Chai tea is usually brewed with a combination of warm milk and warm water. The milk adds a creamy, rich taste that contrasts nicely with the powerful flavors of the herbs and spice in chai.

Milk is added as a flavor and texture enhancer to chai and isn’t necessary in order to reap the health benefits of this type of tea. If you are lactose intolerant, you can also use rice milk or soy milk instead.

Chai tea can be brewed using a liquid tea base or tea bags. You can find both types at the store and local coffee shops such as Starbucks. You can also make your own chai tea concentrate at home using peppercorns, cloves, cardamom pods, cinnamon sticks, ginger and black tea. For a detailed recipe, you can look here.

The drink is originally from India where its known as masala chai.

You can also buy chai tea leaves or bags which have the same spiced tea taste but are made by steeping in water and drunk with or without milk.

So now you know the difference lets look at them in terms of health. Starting with a Chai Latte.

The History Of Chai Tea

In India, where chia tea originated, the word chaiactually means tea.So, by referring to chia tea you are actually saying tea tea. A bit of an unnecessary double-up! Chai in India refers to all kinds of tea. The chai tea that westerners have come to love, is in fact traditionally called masala chai.

Masala is a combination of spices used in Indian cuisine, and when translated, masala chai means spiced tea. Nowadays, masala chai is most commonly referred to as just chai.

Legend has it that 5000 years ago in the courts of Siam and India, a king devised a recipe for a healthy drink. That drink was in fact chai. Since this time, chai has been linked with Ayurveda alternative medicine. This medicine has been used as a healing aid with a combination of massage, herbs, spices and yoga. Fast forward thousands of years and chai tea is now a massive part of Indian life.

Through sheer popularity, chai spread into South Asia and later into the western world.

Traditionally, chai was prepared by simmering or boiling a combination of buffalo milk and water. The black tea leaves and spices were wrapped in a cloth for ease of straining. The tea was then consumed once the mixture was steeped.

Chai spices give off a warming sensation. Although there is no oneblend for chai, the most common spices used are ginger root, green cardamom seed, cinnamon, star anise, clover and peppercorn. Fennel seed, lemongrass, liquorice root and nutmeg are also popular choices in some blends.

Helps You Push Harder And Burn More Fat During Your Workouts

Does excessive drinking tea reduce sperm count?

Exercise is one of the best ways to lose excess body fat. It forces your body to dig into fat stores for energy and increases your total calorie burn, e.g. if you go for a run in the morning and burn 400kcal, but youve only had a banana for breakfast your body needs to get the energy from somewhere hello fat!

Theres good reason why green tea extract is listed on the back of most fat burning / weight loss supplements. Not only does green tea contain caffeine to help perk you up before working out, it may also increase the amount of fat burnt during exercise.

A study on normal-weight, active males cycling for 30 minutes found that taking a green tea catechins supplement in a 24-hour period before the exercise burnt 17% more fat than those who took a placebo.7

Summary

  • Green tea contains caffeine, which can help you feel motivated to exercise and enhance performance
  • It may also be able to help increase the amount of fat you burn

Is It Ok To Drink Chai Tea Everyday

Chai tea lattes are definitely delicious, but unfortunately, this tasty drink falls under the not so lean category! A typical chai tea latte contains 240 calories and 45 grams of sugar! That is equivalent to a large coke! If you want to enjoy your chai tea latte the LEAN way, try ordering a DIRTY CHAI TEA LATTE!

Is Chai Tea Good For Weight Loss

There is some evidence that drinking plain black tea can affect weight. Its been shown that it actually alters the bacteria make up in the gut in a way that might change the way you handle calories.

Its also been shown that people consuming dairy as part of a calorie-restricted plan lose more weight than those not adding dairy.

Cinnamon also lowers blood sugar levels which can play a role in weight control.

But that doesnt mean that chai tea is going to make you lose weight especially if you add sugar, or the calories within it close up any calorie deficit you might create from exercise or reducing calories in other ways.

The black tea study, for example, saw people drinking three cups a day thats no calories if you dont add milk and about 50 if you just add the splash thats found in normal tea. Three cups of chai tea made the traditional way will supply 300-450 calories and even with a more favourable gut bacteria mix thats a lot of calories to offset.

Ditto, the dairy study was carried out on people restricting calories.

In other words, youre not going to lose weight simply adding chai tea to your diet .

Can you drink Chai/Tea during Weight Loss? Indian Tea: Good or Bad for Weight Loss & Health?

Did you know that certain teas have been shown to kick your metabolism up a notch?

“As we age, our metabolism naturally starts to slow down but, when we fuel it correctly, we can keep it revving,” says Lupoli. “I coach clients that in addition to eating so we fuel our bodies with the right nutrients, ideal portions and at reasonable intervals, certain teas take on metabolism-boosting qualities.”

Specifically, Lupoli recommends trying green tea as it’s packed with both caffeine and the antioxidant catechin, both of which are believed to raise your metabolic rate, thus helping you to burn more calories throughout the day. Here are 7 Amazing Benefits of Drinking Green Tea.

In fact, a 2009 study revealed that participants who drank 4-5 cups of green tea each day lost an average of two more pounds than the non-tea-drinkers, even though they were doing the same amount of exercise.

If You Drink Chai Tea Every Day You May Improve Your Digestion

Because ginger is added to chai tea, the beverage is great at staving off nausea. According to one 2014 study on pregnancy-induced nausea, 1.1 to 1.5 grams of ginger daily “significantly improved the symptoms of nausea” in pregnant women. As Healthline highlighted, that’s roughly the same amount of ginger in a cup of chai tea. Sounds like making the choice to drink chai tea every day isn’t too bad.

Studies have also shown that other chai essentials, such as cinnamon and cloves as well as cardamom and black pepper, possess antibacterial properties. These properties can prevent digestive problems resulting from bacterial infections.

“It isn’t one herb or spice in general that aids in digestion but the combination of many acting together,” Pacific College of Health and Science explained. In addition, boiling these ingredients into tea stews together unique flavors. “Digestion begins with the mouth, and while sometimes we equate bad tastes and smells with beneficial attributes, such is not the case with chai,” the college continued. “It represents a harmonious blend of all five tastes recognized by the taste buds that is also pleasing to the other senses.”

Chai Tea Preparation Method

  • A small chunk of ginger
  • 3 to 4 peppercorns
  • Honey or brown sugar

Direction:

1. First of all roast Cardamom, clove, peppercorns, and cinnamon stick on a low heat flame around 2 to 3 minutes. Leave them to cool.

2. Grind the spices into a coarse powder using a spice grinder.

3. Using a saucepan, combine the water, ground spices, ginger and let the mixture simmer for 5 minutes.

4. Once the water has reached the desired temperature, pour over the black tea leaves and allow them to steep for 2 to 3 minutes.

5. Add warm whole milk with brown sugar or honey to taste.

6. To make chai latte, just add chai tea concentrate to a hot cup of steamed milk and add honey. Chai Latte traditionally contains more milk than a typical cup of normally brewed chai tea.
