In 1835, Samuel Bewley and his son Charles imported 2,099 chests of tea directly from Canton in China to Dublin on the clipper ship The Hellas, thereby breaking the East India Tea Companys monopoly and changing the taste of a nation forever.

In 2018, a scientific panel for the reviewed the safety of green tea consumption over a low-moderate range of daily EGCG intake from 90 to 300 mg per day, and with exposure from high green tea consumption estimated to supply up to 866 mg EGCG per day. On 17 June 2011, at in Paris, France, of 1,038 per kilogram was measured in tea leaves imported from , Japan as a result of the on 11 March, which was more than twice the restricted amount in the of 500 becquerels per kilogram. The government of France announced that they rejected the leaves, which totaled 162 kilograms .

Japanese Minister for Consumer Affairs and Food Safety stated on 3 June 2011 that “there are cases in which are sold as and so on and they are eaten as they are, therefore we think that it is important to inspect tea leaves including aracha from the viewpoint of consumers’ safety.”
In 2018, the US updated its import status on Japanese products deemed to be contaminated by radionuclides, indicating that tea from the had been removed from the list by the Government of Japan in 2015.

STEP 1: Boil cold water.

STEP 3: Put the tea into a teapot and add hot water.
