How To Get Tea Certification

Choosing A Tea School

New TEA TExES ESL Supplemental Certification Preparation Online Course

I spent a while trying to find the right tea school to get the certification. Most programs are around $1000-$2000, so its not something to jump into lightly.

Through my research, I did find that some tea schools are definitely a money grab. Ive heard some horror stories.

I first searched online and found three tea schools in the U.S. As I was getting close to signing up for one, Jo, a tea professional I respect, suggested that I look into tea schools in Canada.

So I did. And I signed up for the Tea Sommelier certification program at ITEI, International Tea Education Institute.

Fellow tea bloggers Sara and Georgia also signed up too! It was really nice that we got to go through this experience together.

Learn How To Taste It

Noticing me glugging away like a child with a bottle of Panda Pops, Lalith instructs me on how to drink my tea it so I’ll be able to appreciate it properly.

“Take a small sip and let it cover the tip of your tongue,” he says

“Then take a second sip and taste it with the back of your tongue.”

“Now your tastebuds are all awake as you take a third sip…”

I followed his instructions and, goodness me, he’s right. Doing it like this allowed me to taste notes in the tea I’d completely failed to notice before.

He also recommends slurping your tea in order to mix in a bit of air as you take it into your mouth. Be aware that if you try this while drinking tea at your desk, you may seriously irritate your co-workers.

List Of Texas Teacher Certification Tests: What You Must Take To Teach

While the teacher certification process involves training, it also involves a series of exams that you must take to earn certification in Texas. Although some Texas teacher certification tests are required for every student, other exams may vary based on the area and grade level you wish to teach.

Below is a list of Texas teacher certification exams that you may need to pass based on your specific journey toward becoming an educator.

How Long Is The Certificate Valid

Probationary certificates are valid for 12 consecutive months or one calendar year. Under certain conditions and with approval from the TEA , it may be possible to extend the validity to another 12 months.

On the other hand, the validity of an internship certificate is 12 months and cannot be renewed under any circumstances. In addition, if an intern takes a leave of more than a month for any reason, they are not able to apply for an extension. If a candidate is unable to meet all criteria or pass the required exam, they might have to start off with another certification program and bear huge additional expenses. This also results in a loss of time.

    A Journey Toward Testing Success

Determining which certification tests you must take for the area you wish to teach can take some planning and attention to detail. While some exams like a content exam and PPR are required for every teaching intern, others are optional or dependent on what area or grade level you wish to teach.

Its important to work with your Texas teacher certification program to ensure you are signed up for the right tests at the right time so you can complete your journey toward becoming a certified classroom teacher.

    Tea Sommelier Certification Final Exam

This is a doozy. The final exam was a tasting to identify 12 unlabeled teas. YES, I KNOW.

12 numbered red foil envelopes arrive when its time for the final exam. You cant open anything and must wait until youre on Skype with the instructor.

Over the course of two hours , the final exam took place. The instructor would let me know which numbered bag to open and I had to brew each one, taste, then let the instructor know what kind of tea it was.

It was hard. I knew for sure I got most of it right, but the black teas were a little tricky for me since its the tea I drink the least.

A few weeks later, I received my test results. I PASSED! YAY!!! And a little while later, I got my certificate mailed to me.

Every tea school conducts their final exam differently, but this was my experience with ITEI.

Organic : Five Steps To Organic Certification

Food and NutritionThis is the eighth installment of the Organic 101 series that explores different aspects of the USDA organic regulations.

The USDA organic label is backed by a certification system that verifies farmers or handling facilities located anywhere in the world comply with the USDA Organic Regulations. Certification entails five steps:

STEP 1: Develop an organic system plan. The organic system plan is the foundation of the organic certification process. Created by the producer or handler seeking certification, it details how an operation will comply with the regulations based on its unique characteristics.

While plans differ based on operation type and needs, they address all practices of the farming or handling systems, such as tilling, grazing, harvesting, storing and transporting. They also specify approved substances used during the growing or handling process, monitoring practices for organic systems, recordkeeping systems, and barriers that prevent commingling with nonorganic products or contact with prohibited substances.

STEP 2: Implement the organic system plan. Have it reviewed by a certifying agent. Organic operations are certified by private, foreign or State entities that have been accredited by USDA. These entities are called certifying agents and are located throughout the United States and around the world. Certifying agents are responsible for ensuring that organic products meet all organic standards.

    The Ethical Tea Partnership

    Becoming a tea master

The Ethical Tea Partnership is an industry group that was set up in 1997. It used to work as a certification scheme and conduct audits, but it has, in recent years, shifted direction and instead says that it aims to tackle complex deep-rooted issues that cannot be addressed sufficiently through certification alone.

Its members include Unilever, Typhoo, Tetley, Twinings, Taylors of Harrogate, Lavazza, Douwe Egberts, Starbucks, Teapigs, Whittard, and Yogi.

    Certification As A Principal

The ETS® Performance Assessment for School Leaders provides a solution, developed by educators for educators, for measuring a school leader candidate’s application of knowledge and skills identified as relevant and important for beginning instructional leaders.

The assessment consists of three tasks requiring written commentary and submission of required documents called artifacts. A video of the candidate facilitating a collaborative team during their internship experience is required as one of the components for Task 3.

Why Should I Apply For Certification If I Dont Plan On Teaching Right Away

It is important to apply for teacher certification once you have completed all program requirements because the state is continuously updating/changing available teaching certificates and their requirements. If your certification track no longer exists when you apply for certification, you may be required to complete additional coursework and/or testing in order to be eligible for recommendation by the TDC.
