The Healthy Beverage Company has falsely and misleadingly advertised and marketed its Steaz Organic Iced Green Tea as lightly sweetened, a proposed class action alleges.
The 21-page complaint claims the companys lightly sweetened representation on product labels leads consumers to mistakenly believe the green tea, which contains 20 grams of added sugar, is low in sugar.
Contrary to this representation, Defendants Product is anything but Lightly Sweetened and low in sugar, the lawsuit says. Instead, Defendants Product is high in sugar which directly contradicts the sugar content representation Defendant prominently makes on its label.
The plaintiffsNew York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Massachusetts, Wisconsin, Illinois, Oklahoma, California and Alaska consumerscontend that the reason the Healthy Beverage Company labels its organic iced green tea as lightly sweetened is that buyers would read and rely on such a representation and be induced into buying the product, which the case says commands a premium price.
According to the suit, consumers would not have bought the defendants organic iced green tea had they known the product was neither lightly sweetened nor low in sugar.

Each can provides 100 milligrams of caffeine from natural, plant-based sources such as green tea, yerba mate, and guarana. And guarana could potentially be more effective than coffee, says Barronbecause it’s released more slowly to provide sustained energy .
Yerba mate is also touted for being low on side effects while supplying a bevy of benefits such as antioxidants, amino acids, polyphenols, vitamins, minerals, and, of course, caffeine. Plus, it could even boost mental clarity with its dose of B-vitamins. Oh hey, super-charged summer.

Steaz is a Doylestown, Pennsylvania-based beverage brand launched in 2002. The brand consists of a lineup of organic green tea products, including unsweetened green teas and energy drinks. Steaz is owned by The Healthy Beverage Company, a privately-held organization.
Today, words like organic and green tea get tossed around a lot. However, The Healthy Beverage Company was one of the first companies to notice it becoming popular. In the 1990s, the companys founders both worked for Country Life Vitamins.
While working there, the pair observed that soft drinks were being removed from schools. They realized the world needed a healthier option so they launched The Healthy Beverage Company.
Today, The Healthy Beverage Company is best-known for its Steaz family of beverages, including Steaz Iced Green Tea and Steaz Energy beverages. The company employs 8 people. Although theyve been around since 2002, the company has become particularly popular in recent years.
In 2014 and 2015, Steaz started appearing in Costco and Target stores across America. Prior to that, Steaz could only be found in local groceries and food markets. Today, you can also find Steaz at Whole Foods, Kroger, and other common retailers, where its typically sold for about $2.50 per can. You can also find it on Amazon.
