Milk Tea The British Way

Sixty-five million Brits canât be wrong, and they believe thereâs only one way to make âa properâ cup of tea â and thatâs with milk. Whatâs more, it couldnât be easier. All you need is a kettle, a mug and five minutes to spare. Then just follow these few simple steps.

  • Add a Lipton® Yellow Label® Black teabag to your favorite cup.
  • Boil water and pour over the teabag.
  • Wait 3 to 5 minutes for tea to brew, without stirring or sqeezing the teabag.
  • Remove the teabag and pour in a dash of milk. Note: milk should act as a flavor-enhancer, so you only need enough to add creaminess. Too much milk will mask the taste of the tea. Judge it by the change of color as you add the milk and aim for an even tan shade â a very pale brown means youâve probably poured in too much.
  • Stir with a spoon to blend evenly.
  • For both of the above methods you can use soy or almond milk instead of cowsâ milk.

    So How Can You Compromise

The most common compromise you can make is to use better suited, healthier milk. By that, I mean choosing something like Soy milk, which has far more natural ingredients suited to green tea.

Almond milk is also another possible substitute for cows milk that should have less restrictive effects on catechins.

This will inevitably have less impact on health benefits. Soy milk contains Lecithin, which provides a whole different structure on a molecular level to cows milk. This shouldnt really impede the benefits of catechins at all.

Another might be more around portion size. Try adding less milk then you might do for English Breakfast for example. That way it again reduces the Milks impact.

I should reiterate that the benefits of green tea overall far outweigh any effects of adding Milk

Another option is to drink matcha over sencha. As Matcha is in powder form and includes the full tea leaves. Therefore the benefits are heavily increased. Any milk is likely to have far less impact than if you add it to loose leaf Sencha, which is simply then a steeped version of green tea.

The exception I would apply to this would be any late evening or night time drinking. Since Matcha also contains more caffeine, it will likely impact your sleep for obvious caffeine reasons .

If you want to know more about how much caffeine is in green tea compared to other teas and I think youll learn a thing or two about caffeine in tea! Then go read my article on it here.

    What About Milk Tea

Although most milk teas are made by mixing fresh milk with black tea, many people mix milk with green tea or sweets, which can be served hot or cold.

Green tea is often considered a healthier option than coffee and can be very refreshing on hot summer days. Green Tea Bubble Tea is shaken iced green tea.

Most shops in Taiwan will start with hot green tea, adding ice, and then shaking it in a shaker machine for about six to eight seconds to create the bubbles on top.

One of my personal favorites is a matcha bubble tea latte. This option combines matcha powder, fresh milk, and tapioca pearls to make an unforgettable drink.

Bubble Milk Tea in the US is usually made using a flavored powder. For example, to make taro bubble tea, most shops will use taro bubble tea powder. Surprisingly, some bubble tea shops mix this powder with water, so there isnt any tea in your bubble tea! We recommend mixing taro powder with hot green tea to accentuate the flavor.

Does Green Tea Normally Have Milk In It

The answer is no, green tea in general, does not have milk in it. Having said that, there are some green teas that are now emerging with the addition of milk.

A couple that spring to mind are Matcha Latte, as introduced by Starbucks into their range of teas. Another potential option might be Matcha Smoothies, you can even whisk these up at home fairly easily and quickly in your blender.

Are you trying to learn to appreciate the natural and varying flavors of tea? Then you should steer clear of milk completely. As mentioned above, milk disguises the flavors of tea even black tea. This means that you cant really appreciate the subtle hints, notes, and aromas.

Now, with cheaper quality teas, this isn’t such a bad thing. These teas have a tendency to have an overwhelming bitterness to them. If you are investing in better quality teas, though, then milk will only disrupt your experience.

With good teas, no two teas are alike. For instance, some black teas have certain robustness to them, while with others there is a tangible malt-like flavor. There is just as much discrepancy with green teas too. Even oolong teas have unique profiles that you need to taste to learn to appreciate.

Therefore, if you are planning on becoming a tea connoisseur, avoid adding milk in the beginning. Rather, truly taste the flavors. Then, if you still dont enjoy the taste, you can consider using milk to flavor the brew.

How To Make Boba & Bubble Tea At Home

To make boba and bubble tea, you need bobas. My family and I often buy our bobas at Woo-Ri Mart, a Korean grocery store in Princeton Junction, NJ.

The bobas/bubbles are also available on Amazon.

To make the bobas, we first put them in boiling water and cook them according to the packages directions. We usually make a whole bag at once my daughters have no problem with eating up the leftover boba.

After we cook the boba, we drain them and stir in 2-3 tablespoons of sugar you can add as little or as much sugar as you like. If you have more time, the Numi Tea Blog suggests soaking your boba overnight in a simple syrup or in honey.

We brew Thai tea from teabags for Thai bubble tea. For a glass of Thai tea, I let the teabag sit in boiled water until it cools.

When I make my Thai boba tea, I use about 2-3 tablespoons of 2 % milk. I pour the tea into a glass filled with ice and then add the boba. How much boba you add is up to you I tend to like fewer boba, while my daughters like more boba in their tea.

I also stir in 1-2 tablespoons of sugar, depending on how decadent I am feeling!

For matcha boba tea, we fill about 1/4 of the glass with ice. We then fill the glass to about half way with cold milk. We add cold water, leaving some room for boba. We mix 3-4 tablespoons of matcha tea powder in. . This green tea powder is already sweetened, so theres no need to add sugar.

    Why Is Taro Tea Purple

Taro tea is purple mainly because of how taro powder is processed with food coloring.

When you cut open a typical taro root, youll find that its actually off white inside with specs of purple. In taro powders, manufacturers or processors will use purple food coloring.

This has been the norm since taro bubble teas became a thing.

Easy Jasmine Pearl Green Milk Tea recipe. Made with dragon pearl tea, this is the best drink idea to quench your thirst.

We are going back to school people!!

Not this week, but next week my school is starting a hybrid model. I will be going back on Wednesdays only and doing the remainder of the classes online. But I think it will be so nice to see the students in person again after so long.

So heres to celebrating a safe return to the classroom! With one of my favourite drinks.

This Jasmine Pearl Green Milk Tea uses my favourite tea ever: Jasmine Dragon Pearl tea. This tea is expensive, but trust me. Its so worth it!

Every birthday, I ask John to buy me this tea. That is all I want. Just Jasmine Dragon Pearl tea. So every year, John goes to this Chinese store in Vancouver and haggles for a good price on this tea. Then I make it last for the entire year, drinking it only on special occasions.

And going back to class? This seems like a special occasion to me.

And it is so easy too! All you need is:

    • Jasmine Dragon Pearl Tea

    Brewing And Serving Green Tea

  • 1Brew the green tea properly. Boil the water until it just reaches a simmer, then remove from heat and wait 30-60 seconds before using it, so it can cool down a bit.XResearch sourceDina Garcia, RD, LDN, CLT. Dietician/Nutritionist.
  • The water temperature and quality of water you use to brew the tea are essential details to making a good cup of green tea.XResearch source
  • 2Rinse a teapot, preferably ceramic, with hot water. This is called warming the pot, and ensures the tea does not get cooled down by the pot itself.XResearch source
  • 3Place your tea leaves in the warmed pot. If possible, try to use loose tea leaves for higher quality tea, as opposed to tea bags.XResearch sourceDina Garcia, RD, LDN, CLT. Dietician/Nutritionist.
  • The standard guideline is one teaspoon of tea for each 8 ounce cup of water. So if you are serving yourself, just use one teaspoon of tea. Adjust this amount based on the number of people you are serving.XResearch source
  • 4Pour the boiled water over the tea leaves and let them steep. The steeping time depends on the type of green tea you are using. Generally, you should steep green tea for 1-3 minutes.XResearch source
  • Once the tea has been steeped enough, strain out the tea leaves.
  • Green tea that is steeped too long will taste bitter and have an unbalanced flavor. So try not to over steep the leaves.
  • If the tea tastes very mild, use more tea leaves or steep the leaves for a minute longer.
  • Brewing The Thai Green Tea

Brew the Thai Green Tea by adding 2 tablespoons of Thai Green Milk Tea Mix to a filter sock and pouring through 1/2 cup of boiling water collecting the tea in a measuring jug .

Repeat the process of pouring the tea through the filter sock another three times to extract as much taste as possible. You will need a second container to make this easy, passing the tea through the tea strainer sock from one container to the other.

After the four pass-throughs, rest the tea straining sock still containing the tea in the hot tea to allow it to steep for a few minutes while you make the latte.

What Is A Green Tea Latte

A green tea latte is simply a latte made with green tea instead of espresso. Traditional lattes are a blend of steamed milk and espresso, but in a green tea latte, we remove the coffee and use tea in its place. You can use any type of green tea to make a latte, but the most common one these days is definitely a matcha latte.

    Carefully Brew Your Tea

Late night #bobaruns @tbaarcolorado. I got the Panda Green ...

Green tea is a rather delicate type of tea. As such, it needs to be carefully brewed.

To begin with, dont overheat the water. It is important to take the kettle off the stove before it begins to boil.

For greater accuracy, you may want to buy an electric kettle that clearly shows the ideal temperature for green tea.

Another mistake that you should avoid is over-brewing green tea. The longer the tea leaves are left in the water, the more bitter the brew becomes.

On average, dont leave the leaves in for more than 30 seconds to a minute.

Adding milk to green tea isn’t as straightforward as you would have imagined. This is because there are so many factors to consider.

Now that you have the relevant information, you will know how to add milk to your brew in just the right way.
