How To Make Thai Iced Tea

- For the sweetener, I prefer condensed milk because you dont need as much. You can also use regular milk or half and half with regular sugar, but you will need to add more.
- At restaurants, its usually served with the milk poured in but not completely mixed, so you get a two or three-toned glass. Once you stir it with a spoon, it becomes a uniform orange.
This is a fun drink to make at home, especially when its warm outside. The aroma of the tea leaves is so nice when this is brewing, another bonus for making it at home.

Masala Tea With Milk Powder
Originating from India, Masala Tea is generally known as Masala Chai. This is a much-flavored tea with a mix of aromatic spices and herbs. This tea contains zero fat, without milk or sugar. Masala tea prevents cancer, bloating and boosts immunity and metabolism. For preparing this you will need,
- 2 cardamom pod
- 1 teaspoon of crushed ginger
- ½ teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
With these ready
- Crush them in a blender and add them in Step 2 when making tea . This will absorb all the spices and flavors with the time the tea steeps.
- Before adding the tea mixture to the milk paste, strain it over a tea strainer to discard the solids.
If these flavors arent your type. Try adding flavors such as vanilla, butterscotch, or almond to your milk tea.
What Kind Of Tapioca Pearls Do You Use For Bubble Tea Recipe
I typically use this brand of tapioca pearls, which cooks in about 5 minutes. I like that these pearls cook quickly, but the texture could be better. You can find these tapioca pearls in Asian supermarkets or on.
One important thing to note about these quick-cooking tapioca pearls is that you should only cook as many as you need. The pearls stiffen as they cool, so they do not keep well overnight. However, if you leave the pearls in their cooking water, the pearls retain their soft texture for a longer time. In other words, dont drain the hot water once you are done cooking the pearls. Instead, use a slotted spoon to remove the pearls from the saucepan, and leave any excess pearls in the saucepan.
WHAT KIND OF MILK DO YOU USE? CAN THIS BE DAIRY FREE?
I prefer using whole milk the most because the rich flavor makes the beverage tastier overall. I tried a version of the bubble tea with heavy cream. While the flavor of the tea was even better than the version I made with whole milk, it felt too decadent. Perhaps using half-and-half is a good compromise?
You can also make a dairy-free version with nut milks or soy milk. I tried using canned coconut milk once, and the coconut milk left a funny feeling in my mouth. It felt as if my mouth was coated with a thin layer of coconut fat.

Whats The Best Tea To Use
Milk tea is usually made with either black tea, oolong tea or green tea. I personally like my drink made with darker teas like black tea, but its really a matter of personal preference.
- Black Tea is a great option to make a delicious glass of milk tea. Earl Grey is an example of black tea thats easy to find in any grocery store. The breakfast teas are also made with black tea. In China, Hong Kong, and Japan, black tea is known as red tea.
- Oolong Tea is probably the next most popular choice. Oolong tea is easy to find and is most likely already lurking in your pantry.
- Green Tea is another popular choice, especially Jasmine green tea, along with green tea powders like matcha.

Last Tuesday, I shared my familys easy and delicious raspberry thumbprint shortbread cookies recipe as part of my new weekly feature, Tasty Tuesday. Today I am back with another extra yummy recipe. Im sharing how to make boba and bubble teas! My family and I make two kinds of bubble tea: Thai bubble tea and matcha green tea bubble tea .

Bubble tea, also called boba tea, is a cold drink made from brewed tea that is iced and mixed with added flavors and boba/bubbles, or tapioca pearls.
The boba teas Im sharing in this post are milk bubble teas. . We use low-fat milk, but you could also use a non-dairy milk like almond milk instead. My daughters often like almond milk in their bubble teas. Bubble/boba teas are popular in Asia, and have become quite popular here at home, too!
My daughters and I first discovered bubble teas at one of our favorite spots, Fruity Yogurt, in Princeton, NJ. We like to get bubble teas and hang out at the Fountain of Freedom at Princeton University on Washington Avenue. We usually bring our pup, Mochi! We havent gone to Princeton much this summer. So, its great weve learned to make these tasty drinks at home!

What Is A Tea Latte
A tea latte is a type of milk tea . Same as a coffee latte, it is traditionally made with steamed milk, but can also be made with frothed milk. It is commonly made with a tea concentrate , but can also be made with Matcha or Hojicha powder. It can be made hot or cold.
You can make a tea latte with any type of milk. I personally dont like cows milk and I only drink vegetal milk. I always look for barista versions of almond and oat milk. They froth perfectly. Otherwise, cows milk always froths well.

Is Milk Tea Good For You
A significant number of tea drinkers have picked up this habit due to the many health benefits associated with tea. Therefore, it is only natural for you to be curious about whether milk adds or detracts to these advantages.
There is no denying that that milk can be good for your health. It is categorized as a whole food that can aid with bone development, improve dental health, and reduce the risk of diabetes and heart disease. It is even known to curb your appetite.
However, as more research has been done on dairy milk, experts are realizing that there is more to the story. For instance, cows milk has found to aggravate a wide variety of skin conditions and potentially increase your risk of prostate cancer.
Then, there is also the fact that a significant percentage of the population is lactose intolerant. This means that consuming milk or even adding it to your tea could cause certain digestive issues.
In reality, the impact of milk on the health properties of tea hasnt been thoroughly investigated. Due to this, there is often conflicting evidence about the role of milk in your brew. This is especially about how milk can affect antioxidant capacity of tea.
In some instances, milk doesnt affect the antioxidant activity of tea at all. In other cases, it appears that milk can prevent the body from absorbing antioxidants as readily. However, experts believe that these discrepancies can be the result of:

What Kind Of Tea Should You Use
First theres the tea blend: many purveyors of great Hong Kong Milk Tea closely guard the blend of teas they use, but its always a blend! So when in Rome Hong Kong
Ceylon is the undisputed common thread across Hong Kong Milk Tea recipes. I used a Ceylon Orange Pekoe that we had in the pantry. From there, I did a little experimenting with my mothers stash of tea to see what kind of flavors they each yielded, and I was surprised to find that the humble Lipton black tea bag, also made from Orange Pekoe, did a great job at cutting costs AND packing the right flavor.
My parents have actually been to tea farms in China, and apparently, Lipton buys up their tea dust or tea fannings, i.e. the crushed remnants from the production of the more expensive loose leaf tea. So in a weird way, you might be getting some quality stuff! To round out my tea blend, I threw in some Earl Gray for another citrusy, robust layer of flavor.
From there, theres the pesky question of tea ratios. I did a lot of tearing open of tea bags, and here are a couple of helpful tips for formulating the right Hong Kong Milk Tea blend:
- 6 cups of water boils down to about 4 1/2 cups of tea, or about 4 servings
- 2 standard tea bags equals about 1 tablespoon.
Its surprising just how much tea you need to make an authentic cup of Hong Kong Milk tea, as it is traditionally so strong. I watched countless Hong Kong Milk Tea vendors on YouTube scooping huge cups of tea to make just one large pot!

Can You Put A Tea Bag In Milk
The milk proteins lose their structure and affect the taste of your tea. So it would be better to pour milk first into the cup. On the other hand, if you ve placed a tea bag in the milk before you add water, the tea may not brew properly. So as a thumb rule: if you re making tea in a pot, then milk should come first.
What Kind Of Milk Should You Use
Now, you may be wondering what kind of milk you should use? Is regular best or should you give cream in tea a try? Or, would half and half in tea taste better?
It really is all up to your preference. Cream will naturally add more creaminess to your drink and may eclipse more of the natural flavors of the tea as well. Half and half, on the other hand, may allow more of these flavors to shine through.
You should know that certain tea and iced tea recipes may use evaporated milk or condensed milk instead of regular milk. These, of course, will create a far sweeter and thicker drink as well.

Step 4 Its very important that you dont mess with the tea bag why it is steeping! Let it just sit in the water and let the tea leaves release their flavor.
Step 5 Let the tea bag sit in your cup for the appropriate amount of time .
Step 6 After removing the tea bag, allow your tea to cool for a minute before taking a sip. This will allow the flavor to fully develop and give you the best taste possible.
Step 7 If you add milk to your tea, then you will want to do that now. Always add the milk after removing the tea bag.
What Tea Should I Use
I always use black tea for this recipe, although you can try this with oolong and green tea. I love having my milk with green tea, hot or cold, but for this specific recipe my choice is always black tea.
If you still dont know, black tea is quite healthy: it has a lot of antioxidants, and some studies even said it can reduce stress and give you an energy boost!
Just remember: black tea has caffeine on it, so my milk tea can make you stay awake till longer than you need to if you drink it at night.
For my iced milk tea, I always use Assam black tea, or a blend that has mostly Assam on it, as it makes a stronger taste black tea.

Brew At The Right Temperatures
Stronger teas such as oolong teas and black teas should be brewed under higher temperatures to ensure they extract all the flavors and content right. Therefore, by brewing them using boiling water, they will extract all the content.
