Dont just check for tannins, as wells commonly contain bacteria and sulfur, too, which give water an unpleasant aftertaste, may affect water flow, and may even make water unsafe to drink. Wait Just How Cloudy Is Your Pool
Cloudy is a pretty vague term, and you should know that there are different stages of cloudy pool water. And yes, it goes from bad to worse.
Personally, Id break cloudy water into three categories:

Check The Filtration System
If you have a filtration system running in your pond, it should be getting rid of some of the turbidity. There is a misconception that the filters only work by mechanically straining the water of solid particles. However, that is just one of the ways it uses to clear your water of particles, and it is not even the main one.
Filters use bacteria to break down organic particles. These bacteria tend to settle and form colonies in the filter media, and as such, they can handle most of the organic particles that pass through them. That said, the filter will clog over time and thus might need to be changed.
Its impossible to know if the media is clogged without opening up the machine. Consequently, you should make it a point to open and check on it regularly. That said, do note that changing the filter media means that youll disrupt the bacteria colonies. After that, it will take some time for enough bacteria to settle in the filter. In the meantime, the machine wont be 100% effective.
Also, other mechanical components of the filtration system may not be working as they should. This will, of course, hinder the filters efforts to clear organic particles from the pond.

Ponds make for beautiful and relaxing natural displays. Yours may have a lovely water fountain or a bunch of koi. However, algae can quickly overwhelm your pond. A single-celled type of algae turns the water green and string algae covers the top of the water. In addition, decaying plant matter leaves a sludge at the bottom of the pond. To clean a pond, fish out string algae, treat the water with hydrogen peroxide or barley straw, maintain the pond with aeration, and remove plant debris with a pond vacuum or by pumping out the water.
The Second Day Of Construction
During the second day of construction, my hopes were raised that I might get something that worked, even if it didn’t look pretty. My plans were based on a single 30-gallon plastic tote.
Trying to get water flowing from the bottom to the top of the container had been causing many problems with leaks at the joints. I could do away with the connections to and from the container by reversing the water flow. Pipe from the pump in at the top, holes in the side of the container at the bottom would allow the water to just pour back into the pond.
I filled the container with scrubber pads to provide an environment for the “good” bacteria to live in.
I had some existing “bio-media” from the pre-filter, so I put that in the middle of the scrubber pads and set the water flowing.
That night I went to bed wondering if the morning would bring success or failure. By the morning, I knew that the water’s colour and clarity would soon let me know if I were on the right track or not.
