Each box of Traditional Medicinals Organic Green Tea contains 16 tea bags that are individually wrapped, compostable, and non-GMO verified. The one drawback though is that the bags fall apart when allowed to steep.

Like most other tea bags on the market, this one too needs more work, considering how the bags break loose after soaking. However, it is overall the best product with such a variety of flavors. If you dont like your tea plain and grassy, definitely give one of the Traditional Medicinal teas a try!

This can be best avoided by drinking sencha tea along with food and limiting your intake to no more than 2 cups per day.
  • Pregnancy: Drinking caffeinated beverages during pregnancy is not recommended. Consult your doctor as to the amount and types of tea it is safe to drink.

Is Organic Tea Healthier

The research from Newcastle University in the United Kingdom showed that organic food products had 18-69% more antioxidants than non-organic food. However, with tea, things get a bit fuzzier. Firstly, every tea has a different amount of antioxidants. Some green tea types will have as low as 16 mg of EGCg per gram of dried leaves, while others may contain 203 mg per gram. Even if the type with 16 mg is produced organically, 69% more will still be less than the non-organic type with 203 mg. Antioxidants in tea depend on many factorsfrom tea varietal to terroir, to growing and processing methods.

How Much Caffeine Is In Matcha Tea The Surprising Answer

Medically reviewed by Senik Matinyan, MD on January 10, 2021 – Written by the Azul Tea Editorial Team

Everybody seems to have gone bonkers on matcha tea. It is the latest addition to the menu in all cafes and eating outlets. You have probably heard of it. Especially, if you are the habitual coffee drinker, then you have at one point been persuaded to substitute your coffee drinking for it. Why? You may ask. Well, the reason is simple. Match tea, just like espresso, contains caffeine. It is, however, a healthier stimulant compared to coffee. And the question in most people’s mind is how much caffeine is in Matcha Tea? Will it provide that kick you need after a busy day?

Matcha tea is a type of Japanese green tea that is prepared by grinding tea leaves into a consumable powder form. Whenever the powder is added to boiling water, the result is a bright green frothy drink that is naturally sweet.

Matcha green tea contains a lot of caffeine since it is directly prepared from the leaves of the matcha plant. The leaves contain very high concentrations of caffeine. It contains almost double-fold of the concentration of caffeine in comparison with other types of green tea. Ordinarily, a matcha hit could provide different levels of caffeine.

Health Benefits & Side Effects

Matcha tea has the advantage of sustaining energy over extended periods of time within the body. A study reveals that matcha tea has three times more epigallocatechin gallate , important catechin in green tea, than other green teas. Catechins and EGCG, in particular, are an antioxidant. As a result, caffeine molecules in the tea bind to the catechins and are slowly absorbed over time. Consequently, it takes longer from the caffeine to be absorbed and provide a spike when compared to coffee. The latter is directly absorbed into the bloodstream and immediately provides a jolt of energy that quickly fizzles out of the body. So, when compared to coffee, matcha, which can take up to six hours to get absorbed, offers some calm sense of awareness and alertness. The amino acid L-theanine is partially responsible for the relaxed feeling. In addition, caffeine in matcha tea produces the feel-good effects since it is complemented by the phytonutrients and antioxidants as well as the amino acids.

Caffeine, despite its side effects, is not all that bad. It has proved to be beneficial when taken in matcha. Studies have shown that a mixture of green tea and caffeine, which matcha tea offers, improves weight maintenance by facilitating fat oxidation and thermogenesis.

On average, there are on average 24-39 milligrams of caffeine in every matcha tea that is served. Hence, consumers who may be on a diet and are meant to avoid caffeine concentrated foods should withdraw matcha tea.

Does White Tea Have Caffeine

There is a common myth that white tea has less caffeine than black or green. However, this is true only for leaves from certain regions, such as Fujian, China. These leaves will release as little as 6 mg of caffeine into the average cup. Notice that in some sorts of organic white tea the caffeinecontent can rise up to 75 mg.

Drink White Teas From Fujian China

Bigelow Organic Decaffeinated Green Tea REVIEW

The original study showing that white tea is naturally high in antioxidants and low in caffeine came from white tea’s homeland , where white teas made from several local tea varietals were tested. In the years following this study, white tea production spread to India, Indonesia, and elsewhere. Now most of the “white tea” on the market is not traditional white tea at all, but rather a tea processed like white tea, yet made from different types of tea plants.

These teas are commonly produced with the Camellia sinensis assamica tea plant, which is naturally higher in caffeine than the Camellia sinensis sinensis plants grown in Fujian. White teas from Fujian are more likely to be made from the types of plants that were used for the original test and to be lower in caffeine.

What Is Organic Tea

People have been drinking tea for a few thousand years when there was no need for organic production at all. It was before the land was polluted and GMOs invented. Legend has it that tea was first discovered about 5000 years ago by a Chinese emperor and a father of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shen Nong. A tea leaf accidentally fell into his cup with hot water. Naturally curious about herbs, he drank it. As his skin was transparent, he could immediately see the impact it had on his body.

The first tea was harvested from wild tea trees and not from cultivated tea plants. Therefore, all tea was originally organic. In fact, some old tea trees are still freely growing in China. Even after a few hundred years, they still have much to offer, and they are the closest to organic production as possible. However, they will never be labeled as organic.

Organic tea is all tea grown following organic principles set out by the USDA in the US, IFOAM in Europe, or other organizations in their home countries. Four principles of organic agriculture say that it:

  • has to sustain and enhance the healthy soil, animals, plants and people
  • should be based on living ecological systems is supposed to be fair
  • should protect the health and well-being of current and future generations and environment

The land has to be pesticides, herbicides, and chemicals-free for three years prior to certification. Organic products cannot contain any engineered nano-particles or GMOs.

Why Is There Caffeine In Decaf Tea

Allow us to start with why because, well, its in the name, right? Decaf Tea shouldnt have a single ounce of caffeine remaining otherwise it isnt living up to its promise. We understand the frustration.

However, the bottom line is that the Camellia sinensis plant is one of sixty plants to contain the stimulant, the same as Coffee and Yerba Mate .

Removing Caffeine in Tea and its counterparts requires further processing known as Decaffeination. There is no such thing, in other words, as a naturally occurring Decaf Tea or Coffee.

Weve talked about the four primary methods of Decaffeinating in another article. What we want to look into in this particular blog is, Does Decaf Tea have caffeine AFTER decaffeination?

While extracting caffeine has become increasingly efficient in recent years, it is all but impossible to remove 100% of the substance. Some residue will, inevitably, remain.

Try not to worry, though, as when we say residue, we mean it. If you consider yourself caffeine-sensitive or, perhaps, youre pregnant and hope to cut down your intake, brewing Decaf Tea is still a relatively safe option.

Guarana High In Caffeine

Second on my list is Guarana herbal tea, from the Paullinia cupana plant, and is an even lesser-known drink that mate. But still high in caffeine.

Guarana tea is made from the seeds of the Paullinia cupana, a climbing plant native to the Amazon basin. It is drunk widely in Paraguay, Brazil, and Peru. It has health benefits similar to that of green tea. Among other ingredients, it has a high caffeine level comparable with coffee and mate.

Again, its one of the South American herbal teas that you would need to watch out for. And it may be another youve not heard of, but at least now you know its has a lot of caffeine in it.

For those who love their caffeine, you can also get Guarana on Amazon too in cans, and as supplements, heres the selection of Guaran products.
